Win95... disappointing Win98... disappointing WinME... disappointing Win2000... expensive but somewhat usable WinXP... expensive, disappointing, but somewhat usable XP Starter Edition... disappointing XP SP2... disappointing (may as well be WinXPSE much like Win98SE was) Longhorn... (I can't bear to look)
The controversy. The versions of Lucas' beloved films that are on these new DVDs are not the original theatrical releases but the special editions that played in theaters in 1997. Rumor have circulated about additional changes, but Ward would not deny or confirm them. "We want to encourage our fans to check them out themselves."
Sony shouldn't go about making an "all in one" device like the PSX.
What it should do is give the PS3 enough hardware and an ease of hackability so we can get a live DVD Knoppix distro booted on the thing, complete with all the Linux Desktop apps out there.
If Sony releases such a DVD, even better.
That, if anything else, could be the final nail in the Xbox's coffin. Imagine every home user having not only a game machine, but a functioning internet capable desktop with Open Office running on it.
Terry Nation probably thought: "Hmm... I just get this garbage can here turn it upside down, cut ping-pong balls in half and stick them all over the outside, thrust a whisk or a plunger on the front, and I'll be scaring kids for generations!"
Kyou wa sandoicchi wo tabeta. Mazui datta. Oreni shukudai wo okonawaserunode, oya oyobi bokuno jinnsei wo daikirai. Ore wa rinnkinn pa-ku dake ni kankei ga arieru.
What annoys me is that these anti-violent-game lobbyists want everyone to understand that violence in games is not real. Yet at the same time they belive that playing them creates real world effects. So which is it?
Anyway, I liked "Postal 2" because of the moral ambiguity of that game. The fact remains.... you can actually win that game by not having to kill anyone.(stealing and doing drugs to avoid death from the game's assailants is a different matter though)
Supposing if over my cold dead hands that actually happened, you'd assume MS would cop some bad publicity. Wrong.
They'd just reframe the situation as a business opportunity for the IT folk. Now they could make lots of money doing the work of installing "some other operating system". It would be just like the malarky the Y2K panic was....
Well this is interesting. Sun needs to do something pretty drastic to keep their market share and keep the revenue coming in.
At the moment at the large educational/research facility where I work, all our Solaris Sparc boxes are going the way of the dodo (so long Sun). FreeBSD (and not Linux) is slated to be the replacement.
As long as Sony makes and freely releases a Linux Knoppix-like DVD, complete with office tools and a whole pile of other goodies on the PS3..... the newer Xbox doesn't stand a chance.
More open standards is just icing on the cake for all the developers.
3d games can't convey facial features like 2D (yet). At the moment, half the 3D models around look like undead, unnatural zombies. Surely that has an effect on the game experience (or should that be theatrical experience, as graphics have little to do with gameplay mechanics)
I have a copy of Windows XP Professional OEM version running on my PC.
It set me back a whole 28,000 yen (Roughly US$280)
Please somebody, tell me that what the Japanese pay for Windows is not ridiculously overpriced.
The full boxed version of XP over here actually verges on US$400... so the OEM version looks cheap in comparison.
MS must think that XP is worth the price of a CPU or top-of-the-line motherboard.
Good point.
DVD Knoppix on the PS3 could just be the thing that could blow MS out of the water.
Open Office on every game console all over the world would do the trick thank you very much.
Microsoft just won't be able to cut it in Japan. Not unless they can effectively use their monopoly advantage to stop Sony ever releasing the PS3.
The Japanese would rather support their own home-grown mass-produced product than some American box from a company that most people respect only because it has money.... but for no other reason.
THAT factor alone is a big one as to why Xbox couldn't cut it here (not to mention the bad and overly loud marketing MS did here *cough*Batsu Box*cough*)
Also consider that as consoles get more expensive to develop on, less game houses are going to want to port their stuff between consoles... meaning all those 3rd party developers are going to have to pick sides.
Ballmer:- For us--I don't know about the industry--but for us management is going to grow, security is going to grow, the server platform itself ought to grow, collaboration, business intelligence. I can look at almost anything and tell you I see absolute growth possibilities.
Translation:- We can't innovate for crap, so I'll just make some blanket statement about how IT is going to somehow grow bigger - without giving any concrete or useful examples.
I managed to complete Postal 2 without killing anyone, on the hardest level.
A much harder, but more challenging game.... as well as a special message from the game's creators awaits you once you do that.

YOU'RE OUT!
Suddenly MRTG gets a mind of its own and starts spewing out more than just TCP connection data reports!

I misread it further
Marshall Mathers helps On Patents and Linux
Will the real Slim Shady please stand up?
Please stand up... please stand up....

You'll need Quicktime....
Can't ever seem to bloody well escape from Castle Wolfenstein! Why not just take up permanent residency there? (mind you the games were good!)

Where the hell did this cliche originate?
Apparently it's very popular in Berkley to hook up with peers and then BOINC each other.
Clever! 56.41-15.5-33.57=7 Not much left over for MS to play with though.

You can't save everyone.... eventually the survival of every living organism drops to zero.
The street punk you play in GTA 3 had the best voice over ever!!!
In all seriousness, I liked the voiceovers in Hitman game a bit. Some Danish guy does it. Can't remember the name of the guy...
