  1. the notices are for UPLOADING, not downloading on Canadian ISPs Send Thousands of Copyright Notices · · Score: 1

Many programs, such as countless BitTorrent derivatives, simultaneously upload as you download. The organization in the US randomly searches for "protected" content, jots down the IP addresses, traces to ISPs and asks them to send those notices.

I got a notice from Rogers that I was uploading some copyrighted file (it was a movie or a TV show). While I was not explicitly uploading it, uTorrent was while downloading it.

I'm just wondering if this would hold up, though. I can download things in Canada, but I can't upload, so what if the program I use automatically uploads the content? I'm sure it's no excuse...

  3. progressive? no wonder, check their pricing model on Canadian Phone Company Selling Porn · · Score: 1

I can buy a cell phone now for $500 with Telus, but with no contracts to sign.

I can also buy the same cell phone for $200 less, provided I sign agreement for 3 years. Let's say that in 3 months something happens and I am not able to live up to the agreement - I wish to cancel. Rogers, Bell, (and probably Fido) will charge you $20 per month for each remaining month on your contract up to a maximum of $200. Essentially, if you got $200 discount on your phone, you will probably pay back those $200 when you leave.

With Telus, they will charge you $20 per month for each remaining month. Period. There is no maximum. So if you cancel your 36-month contract in month 3, you have 33 months x $20 each = $660. Now tell me this is fair. Tell me this is a good reason to believe this company provides good, valuable, services to its customers, where customers are the focus. BS.

Telus is ready to screw its customers over like I haven't seen in other mobile telcos (even Bell isn't so bad). How can you agree to a contract, decide to leave, and end up paying a penalty of double or triple of what you saved?

Compare plans between different provides, you will notice that Telus' plans are among the most expensive. They were among the first to move up the hour on which evening starts. Used to be 6pm, became 7 pm, now it's 9 pm. If you want your evenings to start earlier, sure, but pay extra for that. Other companies followed suit.

I also would not be surprised if Telus was intstrumental in moving away from per-second billing to let's-round-up to the minute billing, which definitely screws you over big time. And they did it in such a sinister way that nobody noticed.

Lastly, to end my rant, they also have questionable business practices, where eventually you will be charged for some feature that you had included for free. When you phone to inquire, they will tell you that you always paid for it and it was never for free. And unless you have invoices going back 2/3/4 months ago, good luck proving anything to them.

You were quite incorrect in assuming what i am thinking, why i am thinking that, or what another individual who lived 2000 years ago might have been thinking. pick up a roman coin and you will think "gee, nice old coin" and thats it. but a germanic tribesman from roman times though would pick up the same coin and fell the "heft" you are talking about, because he equates that coin with the dominant military and economic machine of his time in his mind.

For all i know, he could've spat on that coin, and wiped his ass with it. I wasn't there, neither were you, but knowing germanic character as passed on by history, i wouldn't be surprised if that's what they did.

the equating of the look and the feel of the american dollar and its "heft" is just a subconcious connection that depends upon factors going on in your emotions, not in any intrinsic value to the actual design or look or feel of the bill.

Let's have a bill with a happy face on it, cartoonish. And then let's compare it to a normal, valid bill of a country that we know nothing about. No intrinsic value to the actual design? I don't think so. You will know for sure what feels more real and has heft and what doesn't.

    Design has impact.

It's funny you seem to dismiss my comment as my own view, yet in your post you provide nothing except your own views and opinions and feelings, as well as guesses what might have happened ~ 2000 years ago

so the design of the dollar itself is not what gives you the feeling you get when you see it, it is your own mind.

This definite conclusion, which proves your hypothesis, follows the experiment on the germanic tribesman? Nice.

therefore, the design of the dollar can be changed, and 20-30 years from now, assuming the usa remains a strong country, a younger canadian tha yourself would feel the same "heft" you speak of, no matter what fruity colors a new radically different dollar would sport

    Now that's another hypothesis.
Chances are, there won't be a radical redesign of the US dollar. Enhancements - yes. If the US dollar changes to a happy face, and someone from Canada still views it as hefty - then I'd say you might be on to something, but I would have to question the sanity of your subject(s).

With your example of own experience with the nazi coin, are you attempting to explain people's psychology on perception of currency/bills based on your own feelings as a teenager?

in short, your canadian currency is superior to american currency.

Proper context - it is superior only in terms of usability (the blind can read braille, and the bills can be easily distinguished visually)

and that concept completely trumps your weird psychological feeling of "heft" that you speak of

Do you have a feeling that it does? Because no, it doesn't.

I always thought, what happens to braille in very used bills, say, after 10 years...

Because of colouring, though, our money looks.umm... colourful. It's OK for what it is, but it doesn't have that striking appearance of the US dollar. When you hold US bills in your hands, it looks like real, solid money, and the graphics/print on them speak of a solid state.

If you're not sure what i mean, listen to the USSR anthem sang by their soldier choir - that will send shrivels down your spine, it's definitely very powerful and makes a statement. US money do the same, IMO.

Through the study of the Bible (again, don't attempt to believe this if you dont' want to, but just read it for explanatory purposes) you get to realize that those 144000 are selected to form a government. Sort of like representatives are elected into the house or senate. They "reign" over the rest of the country. The bible also speaks of earth being a place most people refer to as heaven - paradise, and that one day that paradise will be restored.
