If you want to impress people, then stop churning out cookie cutter sequels and start using some fresh stories that will keep people interested.
Amen, brother. And stop making remakes while you're at it, unless it is actually something worth remaking. Hitchcock's The Lady Vanishes is so dated that it was only fair to remake it as Flight Plan (pity about the big plot holes though). But some things should never be remade. I can't believe that people saw that piece of crap remake of The Italian Job before watching the original, and ended up thinking the remake was better. I get so fucking angry when I hear people say that.
Voyager is travelling 38,000 mph, directly away from the Sun. If its sensors no longer feel the push of the Solar Wind its because the wind is now going slower, say 37,999 mph, but not yet zero mph as the article title might imply. The wind is most likely still there, we just can not sense it anymore with the technology aboard the spacecraft.
Doesn't the wind go at the speed of light? Or is it something to do with the speed the craft would be going if the wind were the only thing pushing it?
Are you talking about Obama? You must be responding to the wrong post. When I said "he was born in New Haven, CT" that should have made it clear who I was talking about.
I once thought some guy from Texas born with a silver foot in his mouth, who had basically relied on daddy's friends and connections his entire adult life, would have been equally unelectable. I was disastrously wrong.
Invade their country. (Check) Bomb their country. (Check) Kill thousands of their innocent civilians, men women and children. (Check) Show no remorse for these acts. Indeed, be proud of them, and say the victims had it coming. (Check) Tell the survivors that they are going to get the same. (Check)
How much research do you need? I thought America had drawn up this five-point-plan years ago.
The 9/11 hijackers were Saudi. Had we done any of those things to Saudi Arabia? No, we answered their call for help when Saddam Hussain invaded Kuwait.
The basis for the case is a Minnesota statute that makes it illegal to induce "any person to change from any place in any state, territory or country to any place in this state to work in any branch of labor through or by means of knowingly false representations."
That's a myth. Cats might be territorial, but they are very sociable within their group once the pecking order is established. Their body language might be a lot more subtle, but it is there. They groom each other very briefly, but it does happen. Ever see one cat staring at the other one who's just sitting there and ignoring it? That's a huge battle of wills going on right there.
...and more specifically, how a law that on the surface seems perfectly reasonable can be so easily misused.
The law is against menacing, the statement -- made publicly, not directed at any given person -- is "Crap! Robin Hood airport is closed. You've got a week and a bit to get your shit together otherwise I'm blowing the airport sky high!!"
Any sensible person can see there is no threat there, it's just someone being a drama queen. But it violates the letter of the law and it's politically expedient to ignore the obvious.
So you'd crack a joke about having a bomb in your luggage in front of a TSA official in a US airport? Sure, "any sensible person" would get the joke, but we no longer live in sensible times and everyone knows that there are certain situations where the jokes have to stop.
The majority of the inhabitants would live in 1km high “City in the Sky” towers located at the center of the circular cells
The idea of a futuristic city comprising of isolated skyscrapers in vast expanses of open parkland was a fashionable one for futurists in the 50s and 60s, but it's contrary to everything we know about how humans like to live. We like our streets at ground level, our cafes to sit outside, and so on. It's nice to be able to walk to places rather than being forced to drive everywhere because nothing is built anywhere near anything else. If you have to get from one of these towers to another then you have a long trip ahead of you.
Tall buildings are fine for work, play, and for a certain demographic to live in, but if you put lower income people in high rises it can become a nightmare as the UK found out with its ill-fated experiment with high rise living in the 60s.
Just found this animation of the 1986 Giotto fly-by through the tail of Halley. (QuickTime required.) Very cool. Apparently Giotto's still out there and going strong, took a detour through another comet some years later, still does the occasional fly-by near Earth and can be reactivated if there's anything worth looking at. Not bad for a probe that they weren't expecting to survive the Halley encounter.
... I find it baffling to essentially make the argument that if Hitler's freedom of speech were curtailed he wouldn't have done what he ended up doing.
I disagree, and so do law makers in Europe who can curtail what they deem "hate speech" without causing a public uproar about it.
How many people would pay $7.99 per month (Canadian) for the chance to watch Superbad whenever they wanted?
Er, Superbad (whatever that is) isn't the only thing available on Netflix.
TFA goes on to moan that in the early days it didn't have a lot of things that the author wanted to watch. Boo fucking hoo. What is this, a/. post? The standard "I personally wouldn't find this useful therefore I don't understand why anyone else would find it useful" crap is tiresome enough when you have to wade through post after post of it in/. comments, but for it to appear in TFA itself? Does this guy get paid to write this crap?
I've never had a relationship that survived winter. I also suffer from SAD. I'm in great spirits in the summer, but when the days shorten it gets a whole lot tougher to stay on top of things, including relationships.

I wouldn't worry. It's such a slow motion picture that it'll take all eternity for it to get around to firing the weapons.
I'm Denny Krane!

Huh?
What do you think she'd be doing with her life? Truck stop waitress?
No, truck stop waitresses have to have personality and organizational skills and some sense of reality.
And they generally finish their shifts.
I once thought some guy from Texas born with a silver foot in his mouth, who had basically relied on daddy's friends and connections his entire adult life, would have been equally unelectable. I was disastrously wrong.
Small point, he was born in New Haven, CT.
Hmm, let's see....
Invade their country. (Check)
Bomb their country. (Check)
Kill thousands of their innocent civilians, men women and children. (Check)
Show no remorse for these acts. Indeed, be proud of them, and say the victims had it coming. (Check)

I fucking hate that word.
This is for server/enterprise usage, not consumer usage.

Still an interesting concept though.
Heck, even Slashdot has several icons next to every single damn comment -

Already done that, and it is a lot less severe than it used to be. Hasn't gone away completely but it's easier to deal with. Thanks.
Oh yeah? And how did he get into a position to abuse the military? How did he get into a position of being able to abuse the scientific process?
You don't think his Nuremberg rallies had anything to do with it?

One led to the other. His power of oratory whipped up the anti-semitic feeling that made the holocaust possible.
