"Either a bluescreen of death (soon to be redscreen AND bluescreen of death in Longhorn),....."
Not so SOON, as I seam to hear....
More like: "Someday in the distant future...."
or
"Comming sometine withint the decade...."
How can Microsoft even consider charging for their upcomming Spyware removal tool after several years of the "security ?
Conversely, do you see bundling such tools for free with the OS anti-competitive to companies such as Symantec and Mcaffe when it is MS creating the software that is vulnerable?
So what you're saying is you are a troll......
Stop trying to antagonize everyone. This is what Open source is all about. The free and Open sharing of information.
Take freely available software and earn our money adapting it to our clients needs. We also make our money fixing bugs and patching windows systems. Hopefully landing a contract to help the company migrate from M$ to better alternatives.
A very simple way to earn a living and I have no problems helping someone else do the same.
Read their quote dude. I didn't write it. I know their are many types and styles. but Dell is not known for having powerful AND light laptops or light AND capable laptops... I thought their quote was fitting for them.
I can run any of the apps I need. With the fact that I can dual boot both MacOSX and Linux (Gentoo) I have access to more apps than I could ever want. Except for games....
which is prolly the only thing you ever run on your system when you get home from school.....
Though, the best games usually make their way around to the Mac eventually, but by then I can buy them for $19 or less instead of $50 plus....thus showing why you need cash to spare....
Hmm. A Mac Zealot? Maybe, but my Powerbook dual boots OSX and Linux.
I was pointing out the horible design of the cases as compared to something that someone actually spent time to design.
This is just another case of envy by others I guess...
LOL
Dell was showing off two new Latitude models, one standard size and one thin and light.
So this means the standard is NOT thin and NOT light?
Hmmm.... My Standard PowerBook is not only thin AND light but prolly faster than these laptops. And yeah, I thought this design style faded during the 90's. But hey, at least you can say these companies are NOT copying Apple......
With the US to Pound/eruro exchange rate like it is, I would think if you can order here in the states and get it shipped back to the UK, it might be less expensive.
Actually, you can run linux on it right now. You can get any number of Linux Distros that work on the PPC chip and last I looked, the Mini is nothing more than a repackaged iMac.
When I got my G5, I went to www.gentoo.org and snagged a PPC distro and bo0otstrapped my iMac just for fun. It now runs like a champ and I can even dual boot between OSX and Gentoo Linux.
With the cost of the Mac Mini, I am seriously looking into using several of them as a personal renderfarm and to add power to Logic via distributed computing.
The question is, for $2.5k, is 5 Mac Minis as a renderfarm faster than one basic Xserv. I'm not talking about the individual computer comparisons but more you have 5 G4 1.2 GHz processors vs. 1 2 GHz G5

Actually, HotMail was originally created on a Unix/Linux system. It was then bought by Micro$oft in the late 90's for some ungodly amount and the MS comment was that "within a year, it HotMail would be running on all MS stuff."
a couple of years later, it was still running mostly Unix/Linux and this was aftere two or three MAJOR shutdowns when they tried to throw the switch to get MS running it. In each case, they had to revert to the old system while they figured out what was the problem.
The CEO of HotMail was kept on a 5 year contract after MS bought HotMail. When his contract ended, he left, fast. My favorite comment of his was "now I can get back to working with a real OS."
This is starting to get interesting. MS trolls attempting to start a flame war.
We'll have to see what happens, unless their parents unplug there computers for using naughty words.......
LOL

I see your point. But I amvery much active in the music arena. Not just listening but writing, performing, scoring,....
I have already found the iPod to be great in the editing and scoring field. It allows me to carry entire scores and move them from home to the recording studio for laydown onto film.
Yet having the ability to be able to record a practice, or live instruments, along with the portability of the iPod would make it ideal.
I know that several hundred would be sold here at UCLA film just for that reason alone.
I just think lots of people would find that a useful feature if it was there. recording voice memos, phone numbers while you are driving. I think there would be many uses othere than just music....

What are they thinking? This is what everyone wants.
This is what everyone is screaming for! (at least I am)
I mean, what with Sony being paranoid with their MD format, the market is screaming for a digital recorder that you can actually use.
Ahhh yes. The heady days of XGA..... Fortunatly the Macs of that day, (color not the B&W SEs) had XGA beat by a huge margin. As for the CPU, the Moto 030 out performed the 486 by a large margin.
I'm not saying that the PC systems were not underpowered, but mor to the fact that the MacII series with builtin audio and video had better performance. (even if they were overpriced) That is until third party vendors started coming out with better and faster cards for PC.
PS. Even back then I had both PC and Mac doing programing on both so I'm not just a Mac fanatic.
Cyan sold over 1 Million before the PC version saw the light of day. Besides when Myst first came out on the Mac, PC graphics and CPUs were not powereful enough to run it.
I'm sure this was even pre-Pentium days back when the 386 was the dominant seller and the 486 was just out.
They were forced to wait a couple of years before it could work decently on a PC.....
I think this sounds similar to that company many years that applied for a patent/tradmark on the word "Multimedia" and then threatened to sue infringers unless they paid $$$. I don't remember the company, they just faded to obscuity...
Thank goodness this patent/tradmark was thrown out but it just goes to show how low these money grubbing lawyers can go to get $$$ without doing anything really productive.
Just my 0.02.

Huh? What?
Ummm... wtf?!? I have no reply to the previous post except maybe.... I welcome our new Media Center, DRM infested Overlords......
I seam to recall reading in the last security update on my pee cee somthing to the effect of:
Due to a potential vulnerabilty, MS recomends applying this patch to your color management system....blah blah blah...
I mean, a security vulnerability in your COLOR MANAGER?
WTF?
I can just see it now, set you color level to 16 bit and get 0wned.....
MS Stuff doesn't break, it's created already broken....
I for one welcome our new Microsoft overlor.......
Wait... ummm..... Wow. Deja vu.....

Why, any Windows OS... Of course.

Ahhh. but they are planning to release patches and fixes for it.
That will be in the MS Security patch kit on sale for only $150, but if you buy it with SP3 ($75) and Office ($500) it's only $99....
