    Busness patents, software patents, what makes you think USA nowadays uses patents to encourage further innovation?
    China is stuck in the 1700s, when patents were used to publish new inventions and allowed people to improve on them.

    Let Y = the number of accidents caused by cell phone distraction.

    Let Z = the number of accidents caused by people

    Do you really think X or Y is anywhere near Z? I'll bet Z is ten orders of magnitude higher than X + Y, at least.

    Let's get to the real problem and ban people from cars. Won't someone think of the children?

    because you give people you don't trust with this info the originals and access to a photocopier.
    luckily, they are not able to take a photo with their phone, copy the info by hand, or simply walk out the door with the originals, otherwise it would make this tech totally stupid.

    First with modems we used crappy wiring, then they invented ISDN and better wiring for faster signal, then ADSL said they can go faster using that crappy wiring again.

    With TV, we used crappy wiring, then HDMI with its fancy connectors, yadda yadda, then these people come out and say plain old Cat 5e from 10yrs ago can do all that + a dozen other things.

    In both of these cases, why couldn't we have skipped the costly middle part?

    Interesting. Cuz here, it seems traffic lights are timed by street length, so that if you go anywhere less than /20 over the speed limit/ you will be hit with red after red after red...
    The only way to get a string of greens is to go 20 over or 30 under.

    So dolphins keep children safe on the net. Did you know they also get in trouble in real life? Where will the dolphin be then? Instead of this half baked approach, we need a real solution. What I propose, is a GPS tracking chip and button combo to be implanted into every child's wrist. It will also be shaped like a cute dolphin button, but will be useful on and off-line! While we're at it why not give all our children tasers, in case they get into trouble?

    agree with this completely.
    Had a vaio with bluetooth bought in 2003. It didn't work with my other bluetooth stuff. Sony support told me that vaio bluetooth was only guaranteed to work with sony bluetooth products. That doesn't sound like bluetooth to me.

    Fixed the issue finding the bluetooth hardware maker and getting generic drivers so I didn't need sony's drivers. Then everything worked fine.

    So again, standard hardware, crippled by sony software. THey actually spent money getting someone to develop crippled drivers when the generic drivers were free and could easily have been badged for sony.

    my 10" netbook almost has enough plastic around the display to fit a 12" screen, I'd jump at a 12" netbook at/near 10" netbook prices. Until that happens, I won't upgrade my 10".

    sounds like good old CD-key. Many online games had this already - 1 play per account.

    But it's not the same product. Price Discrimination describes same product diff prices due to

    1) student/vip discounts
    2) amazon's "detect how much extra you'd pay" patent
    3) end of season discounts (for fashion, etc)

    Amazon's one is the best, but they promised not to do it again.
