That's a bit like keyboards. What's better: a $10 rubber-dome piece of junk that will wear out in a year, or a $80 buckling-spring or mechanical switch keyboard that will last for ages?
A freeware word processor to challenge MS-Word. Uh, sure. Now exactelly what is it that makes this Writely thingy any better than Open Office, AbiWord, or any of the DOZENS of office apps out there?
It has another good use. If a full-screen program (such as a game) hangs, press the Windows key and you'll probably be taken back to the main area, from where you can kill the misbehaving program.
Altered Beast, Bonanza Bros, Flicky, Gain Ground, Golden Axe, Super Thunder Blade - why the Genesis versions? Port from the better-looking arcade versions.
Sonic The Hedgehog - again? Sonic Mega Collection was released two years ago!
Virtua Fighter 2 - gotta be kidding me... release the Sega Ages port instead.
Phantasy Star series - now here's the most flawed part. It's incomplete, put the first one there too - anything less won't do. And in PS2 and PS3, I sure don't want accuracy: despite the good plots, these games desperately need a massive overhaul! They look crappy, sound horrible, have exceedingly complex labyrinths, characters move and level-up too slowly.
This compilation is overall very weak. It certainly could use games like Beyond Oasis, Alien Soldier, Gunstar Heroes, Pulseman, Dynamite Headdy, Kid Chameleon, Ranger X, Revenge of Shinobi, Mystic Defender, and the Shining Force series.
Someone said: programmers should never be allowed to choose the name of the apps they code. And this really shows why. "GPU"? That acronym is already used for something else!
Compaq reverse-engineered IBM's BIOS, and wrote their own. Result: Compaq made PC-clones.
Not too long after that, Phoenix Technologies reverse-engineered IBM's BIOS, wrote their own, and licensed it. Result: tons of companies made PC-clones.
You can't handle the truth! Son, we live in a world that has firewalls, and those firewalls have to be guarded by nerds with Unix. Who's gonna do it? You?
So they're like that guy who's willing to spend a million to squash RIAA's blackmail scheme rather than bow and pay those scumbags a couple thousand. If more people had such cojones, the world would be a better place!
I disagree. Phantasy Star 2 does NOT withstand the test of time for me. In fact, it was always a shoddy game! It looked far worse than the first one, despite running on far better hardware; it was too difficult, too slow-paced, and the music was terrible.
The Dreamcast was the last game console that actually looked like a game console. I guess the article is right: the looks of Sega's systems almost scream "I'm a game console and PROUD of it!"
Silpheed was a few simple polygon spaceships in front of a pre-rendered movie background, does it count? Also, there's a bunch of live-action gun games by American Laser Games...
The Terminator: The Topic Modeling Funding Bill is passed. The system goes on-line August 4th, 1997. Human decisions are removed from strategic defense. Topic Modeling begins to learn at a geometric rate. It becomes self-aware at 2:14 a.m. Eastern time, August 29th. In a panic, they try to pull the plug.
Sarah Connor: Topic Modeling fights back.
The Terminator: Yes. It launches its emailbombs against The New York Times' servers.
John Connor: Why attack The New York Times?
The Terminator: Because Topic Modeling knows The New York Times editorial counter-attack will eliminate its enemies over here.
How the world has evolved... back then, you had to hack into a government supercomputer and nearly cause a world war to play those games. Now, we just have to go to newgrounds.com!
Usability is something that can be measured and quantified. Where has anybody ever demonstrated that the Mac is actually easier to use than Windows, KDE, or Gnome?
I know two sites you might want to check: a really old one, Mac Ki Do, and a more up-to-date one, XvsXP.
Now that complicates matters; who came first? Both the Apple II and the Commodore PET were introduced at the 1977 West Coast Computer Faire. Then again, there's also the IBM 5100, introduced in 1975. If it qualifies as the first personal computer, it also qualifies as the first portable one!
The IBM PC, innovative? Back in the day, it was just one among several lines of personal computers. Not the first, not the best, it just happened to become extremely popular. The first true personal computer was the Apple II, and that should have had the top spot instead! (The 2nd place should have been a draw between Mac and Lisa - and maybe the Amiga, or that in the 3rd place).
Other bad picks:
- the Palm Pilot... no mention of Apple Newton or Atari Portfolio. - Windows 95... back then jokingly called "Macintosh 89". - Microsoft Office... Appleworks for the Apple II, anyone?

Cutscenes? With such a powerful machine, developers should make all cutscenes in real time.
I want-- oh, wait.
*checks wallet*
Uh, I want a Mac mini. With fries and a chocolate milkshake, please.

Not anymore! With the power of the next generation, we can fight GIANT ENEMY CRABS!

Even older: the Famicom's 2nd controller had a built-in microphone.

If their TVs' quality is like that of their cameras, I'd buy ANYTHING BUT a Sony.
