Apple have a habit of forcing old, useless techs out the door... They did it with floppies, they did it with parallel ports, they did it with PS/2 connectors, and now they're doing it with flash.
The iMac certainly helped make USB popular. But, mind you, Apple never used PS/2; instead, they had ADB.
So what if it sucks? it's cheap to produce and sells acceptably well. While Sony and Microsoft lost a fortune with their super-duper-powerful machines, Nintendo is profitable all the way. IT PRINTS MONEY!
I guess I could buy her something like a "My First Wacom Tablet" (tm) and let her color paper-free, but I think that would be a bit cost prohibitive (but also awesome).
A Bamboo Pen & Touch goes for $99, not that bad in comparison when you consider how expensive printer ink is.
I love OSX, but this kind of shit makes me a bit less inclined to buy a new Mac. I have too much Mac software here to migrate easily, but to others, I usually recommend Linux.
Centuries start on the "01" year rather than the "00" year, so shouldn't decades start on the "x1" year as well? Meaning, right now we're in the LAST year of this decade.
Do humans get so busy with computer games that the whole species, all 6 billions of us, forget to even mine the resources we need or trade or plough the fields?
Quite different situations, especially the timing.
BeOS was aimed at the home desktop, and it was a boxed product. I recall great reviews, it could have carved a niche for itself if it wasn't for Microsoft's sabotage.
Linux, on the other hand, found a home in servers and appliances, where Microsoft was irrelevant, before coming for the desktop market. Also, it was freely distributable. Of course, if you manage a server, you have a pretty good connection; if Be had tried to do the same, home users had dial-up back then... it'd take ages to download a whole OS this way, and CD burners were not widely deployed.
The problem: vertical space is limited. Quick hack: put toolbars on the sides. True fix: get a rotatable monitor!
In other words, you're suggesting the complete elimination of patents.
Which would not be a bad idea at all, mind you...
Yeah, where else would we plug the game consoles?

Here ya go.
But they were not just beige boxes. They were beige boxes with a mouse!
ip law is an absurd joke, and is not to be respected. it is your moral duty to ignore it or actively undermine or destroy it
Fuck yes. I wish I had some points to mod you up.

Well, lira does mean pound in Italian.
Indeed. So it's bye bye, Escapist: you were kinda cool once, but I don't support assholes.
so I also don't my CDs anymore.
It seems you have accidentally a verb.
The MAFIAA read this and thought it was a good idea.
Latinos ARE white. Duh.

Resources? Do you mean... vespene gas?
Maybe the creators of Street Fighter 2 had it right in choosing M. Bison to be the head of Thailand...
You mean Vega, not Bison.
along with Cider-ported versions of Valve's Steam games
Incorrect. They have promised native ports, not Cider.
First one to open-source an older version wins!
Carmack's been winning for a long time, then.
That's an example Americans wouldn't get. They don't know what football is.

BeOS is dead for a reason.
Yes, and the reason is: Microsoft bullied PC makers so they would not sell computers with any other OS. See here.
People hate Microsoft for a reason.
Any other obvious (or non-obvious) ones?
