The headline implies Apple is skirting questions about the existence of malware. This is not true.
They are telling their support people they must not confirm or deny that the callers particular machine is infected, because they don't do antivirus malware cleaning support, (Neither does MS).
Not sure what their reasoning was for putting on the brakes, but sadly I was taught metric and not imperial, then they never switched.

Most attacks have nothing to do with being mad,
Most are organized crime, doing it to make a buck.
The next largest subset are simply vandal type hackers doing it to amuse themselves.
Very few are politically motivated.
So many companies would still be denying having an issue. I say Kudos to them for owning up and acting fast. Everybody makes mistakes, but few take responsibility.
Not that it has ever happened before, but since anything negative said about the USA is automatically believed and embraced I think we can all agree his best defense is that if he is sent to the USA he will likely be dipped in peanut butter, and dropped in a pen full of grizzly bears.

They need some sort of punishment, and pay restitution for it, but it's pretty dang hard to resist a temptation that big. Plus many people who loose big money at a casino THINK they have a system to beat the house. It just turns out these guys ACTUALLY DID.
But the bottom line is they did do the wrong thing, even if the Casinos and Slot company sorta had it coming for being so negligent.
Bicyclists must now go VROOM VROOM! so they can be heard by the blind and wear carnival heads so they can be seen by the deaf. They are also offered the alternative of going Brrrrummbumbumbumbum! and waving flares in the event a carnival head is not available.
Since the questions are formed as answers, and the answers have to be the form of a question, it just seems a lot like the sort of thing that confused the HAL9000. I think we're all going to get sucked out the airlock.
There is no way these fools are going to sway anyone's hearts with this sort of behavior. However, it might strengthen the resolve of various organizations to improve internet security and accountability.

Imagine person sitting in a comfy classroom learning about finance, science, etc. Not very scary.
Now imagine a person living in an unsafe locale learning how to avoid warlords, disease, cold, hunger, etc. Pretty scary.
I'm thinking the lack of fear of death among the educated has less to do with the education, and more to do with the fact that most educated people are from safer places.
Otherwise a low end PC would cost thousands, parts would only be available from Apple, and cost a premium and innovation would have been stunted.
Also I Sincerely doubt Steve Jobs is going to give much of his fortune away to make the world a better place, like Bill Gates is.
