You know, I saw the Perfect Dark pics and was rather underimpressed as well. But, if you looked closely, you could tell it was unfinished. Most of the surfaces had no textures on them. They only had a simple, flat, single color applied to all the surfaces. So, that's why it looked like a hybrid PS1/PS2 quality game. If you look at the ghost recon pics though, they are rather impressive. Personally, I'm waiting for the PS3 because I enjoy Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy, and Metal Gear Solid (which usually comes out first on Sony)

I used to work with one of the guys that was one of the animators on Titan AE at the Fox studios in Phoenix. He said that it was rather disappointing what was happening. Everyone at the studio knew they were being laid off and the studio was going to close after the movie was finished. As it progressed, people either were leaving or being laid off as they were no longer needed. Right at the end of the movie's development, there was nothing but a skeleton crew there. Fox just didn't care about Titan AE and didn't give it much of a chance (sounds like the series that is currently being discussed). As such, there was not much put into the movie by the people working on it. I'd imagine that played a role in the movie's success/failure.

  6. Online Comparison on Online Shoppers Aren't Impulsive · · Score: 1

I think there are a couple of reasons that the online shopper is not as impuslive. One reason is that it is much, much easier to compare prices between 10 different stores. Instead of having to choose between driving all over town and paying a few bucks more at a store nearby, a regular person will pay the extra difference to save the hassle. Online, you can easily bring up everything in seperate browser windows (or tabs as I prefer) and compare everything quite easily. Another reason is that the online shopper probably figures that what they want exists "somewhere out there" on the net. Instead of settling on some item, they will keep searching until they find the exact thing they are looking for. It's a lot easier to do this, than to drive to 10 different stores in a major metropolitan area.

I took a class that was titled "The Films of Spielberg and Lucas." Our teacher showed us this clip from an old black and white about these WWII bomber pilots and the bombs they had to drop to blow up German dams. You watch it, then watch A New Hope, and you will be amazed at how identical Lucas' version is, except the x-wings replace the planes, and the laser turrets replace the AA guns. Aside from that, it is identical.

Well, as far as I can figure the RIAA subpoenas the university for the information they seek. Then, the university will give them the info, and then the RIAA will serve a summons (i think) on that individual to appear in court because they are being sued. But, I'm not sure if there are more than one type of subpoena.

Yet Microsoft breaks previous versions of software and APIs with new releases. The only difference between MS & OSS is that MS releases once every 3-5 years and you have nothing in the interim except for security updates. Gnome, KDE, etc., all create tons minor with new stuff every 6-8 months. The only way to give the new major version of Gnome/KDE (like a new version of Windows) is to create a seperate development-only branch on the side. When it is complete (in that same 3-5 year timeframe as Windows) then it is released and the old version becomes deprecated.
