Yes, you have to buy an ASUS laptop from a reseller. But, they sell complete laptops, as well as laptops that are just barebones (keyboard, screen, shell, mobo) and you have to add RAM, hard drive, etc. Goto www.asus.com and look through their resellers until you find one that will sell you the shell, or configured however you want.

No one told me, but I discovered the PB&J on both sides on my own. Whenever I would make them to take to work a few years ago, I noticed the jelly would soak in and make the bread nasty. Well, one day I thought "hey, add PB to the other side and prevent it." Guess what, it worked. Pretty obvious if you ask me, because I know I was not the first monkey in this world to think of it. So I would be violating a patent each time I told this to someone. Or worse, by telling other people I could be infringing a copyright. Or some other ridiculous claim.

The crimping is no different than has been done on other dough encased objects for centuries. New? Non-obvious? You tell me.

Ok. The telco's arent' forced to provide DSL at all, and this does not have anything to do w/ it. Instead, it says that the telco's do not have to provide a DSL only service. Meaning, if you want DSL, they can force you to buy their standard phone service as well. Your analogies don't hold up here. You want to have DSL, but you don't want to have phone service. Both of them come over the same wires, and if you pay for DSL, you are still paying a small fee to "use" those wires. You still have to buy your cup for your coffee. A modified analogy of yours would be to say that 7-eleven has the right to force you to buy a cup of coffee if you want to buy a doughnut.

If you price out similarly configured ibooks and dells, you will see that the price is not all that different. Add to the fact that as a student, you can get a discount on the laptops (about $150-200 IIRC), and it's a little sweeter. But, there is nothing on the low end of latptops that the mac can compete with in price. A celeron based laptop for $499 will always beat out an iBook, pricewise. Think of all the people that would flock to these companies to get cheap ring tones, cheap text messages, and the coolest phones ever. I imagine that in part it is the infrastructure, the fact they don't have any cell towers. I thought that the providers "shared" their towers with each other....for a fee of course. Beyond that, anything else that prevents them from coming over here?

Yes, even ONE widget will have a 100% chance of failure. You need to look at time dependency.

The probability of failure, or failure rate, is something that is time dependent, not unit dependent. According to you, one out of three widgets will fail in a day. If we work that out, we see that is 1/24 hours. Pretty high failure rate. Now, we have three widgets, each with that failure rate. That makes 3/24 hours, or one failure every eight hours. You are very confused about this. Everything has a 100% chance of failure. It will happen, given enough time.
