They could....but then what happens when developers want to start releasing for HD-DVD/Blu-ray. People will be forced to upgrade. There are quite a few people that would run out, but a game, then realize it won't work in their system. Then, they would have to shell out >$100 for the new player, install it, yadda-yadda-yadda.....bad things for MS.
I think motion blur in games like Burnout helps to create the sense of speed. But, games like that also have things like "boost", etc. It is an unrealistic game to begin with, so you get the feeling like you are going 300mph or whatever. But, in my simulation games (Gran Turismo, PGR) I would hate to have motion blur.
Yes, the americans may be greedy. But what about the greed of the individuals that are performing these scams? Why is American greed seen as "bad", but these Nigerian's greed can be justified?
Well, the "planning to get to the store" is the sticking part. Wouldn't it be so much nicer to pay your PPV cost (which as you mentioned equals Netflix after 5 rentals), then buy the movie if you liked it? If you don't get more than 5 movies a month, you are coming out ahead still.
Well, the DVD's for $9 are not the first-run new releases that are on PPV. Those movies are not too far off the $17 mark. So, there is nothing that Comcast is doing for more than the current market price. I don't know too many people that purchase more than one movie a month, for the reason you stated. It is expensive.
Here's the thing though. I would imagine that quite a few people go buy movies after either:
A) Renting
B) Pay-per-viewing
C) Watching in a theater
There's not much difference between those three. You are seeing a movie once, and then you go get the DVD to watch it multiple times. Of course you would not go rent a movie more than once. If you liked it, you would then go buy it so you can see it whenever you want. Why don't people rent the old movies? Easy, they own the movie. It has nothing to do with not wanting to see it again, but instead has everything to do with not needing to rent it again because you own it.
The nice thing about light is that it falls off pretty good with distance. So, you may be able to get your laser to cook something at a mile or so, but then extend that out to 2 or 3 miles and the light has diffused in the atmosphere and lost the energy it once had. Also, the light continues in the path it was shot along. Bullets on the other hand keep going until they hit the ground and could travel for many, many miles depending on the angle you shoot them at. I have no problem standing under a laser that is pointed upwards and fired. But i don't like the idea of standing underneath a gun as a bullet is fired straight up....because it will be coming back down.
What's funny is that the judges are actually engineers, etc., whose jobs may require them to have knowledge of thermodynamics, or at least they were taught it at one point in their career. They sent out emails at work asking if any of us engineers would volunteer to be a judge in this competition. Really sad that something like this would win. The other entries must've sucked bad.
Actually, the reason Napster got busted was because it did host the files, not merely point you to where they were at. That is why Kazaa, et al, are doing quite a bit better in court.
Well, you are assuming that the masses realize the wool is being pulled over their eyes. If the broadcast flag had been allowed to happen, it would've been turned on rather quietly. Most people out there would go about their lives never knowing the difference. Their new Tivo they bought would still record and playback at a later time/date. Now, if one time they try to make a copy, they will see it doesn't work. Many people, not understanding what is going on, will assume that it just is something that is not possible to do, and will accept it as such and go on with their lives.

I know, but the "watercooling" is a good way to get the heat off the processor to put somewhere else.
Personally, I'm curious if we will have any flaming xboxen.
Yeah, the Perfect Dark surfaces were all untextured. The poly counts were there, but none of the surfaces had any detail or mapping applied. So I also hope it is a early, early, build. I would imagine the guys at Rare will be texturing like crazy over the next few months. I'm waiting for the PS3. The "Cell" sounds sweet, and I bet the PS3 will be really sexy looking.

Says Linus and the other lead developers. A while back they changed their minds about how kernel numbering and development was going to take place.
Ah...the ever deadly double-chair throw. Ballmer has more ninja skills than I gave him credit for.

Yes, except Jack Thompson is out $0 and he gets the $10k break. So, he stands to gain.
The previous max res was split into 2 files that you could bring together. One JPEG for the western hemisphere, one for the eastern.

And the ramjet would use all that oxygen floating around in space for power right?
Except that aluminum is not magnetic....sigh
I'm using FF1.0 and not witnessing this vulnerability either. I am getting one extra Secunia page and one MSDN page.
Umm...you included the price of a fairly good quality LCD monitor, keyboard, and mouse for your computer as well right?
Actually, the reason Napster got busted was because it did host the files, not merely point you to where they were at. That is why Kazaa, et al, are doing quite a bit better in court.
Yes, except this could be useful for more than just music. This could prevent the copies of application and data CDs.
Well, depends on the school and district. I know in the Phoenix area, that 100k would pay maybe for 3.25 teachers.
You can use installers like 98lite, or, if you choose, you can remove IE from your system. Then when you go to install netscape, it won't work.
Possible, but you don't pluralize the mascot of Stanford. It is just "Cardinal" not "Cardinals"
Except that Stanford is not the "Cardinals" as in the bird, but the "Cardinal" as in the color red.
