If that were the case, then there'd be no trolls on slashdot.
In the Catholic High Schools here in Canada, instead of taking religion in Gr. 12 (They removed Gr. 13 recently), we have the option of taking "Philosophy: Questions and Theories". From the little blurb on the course outline:
"This course addresses three (or more) of the main areas of philosophy: metaphysics, logic, epistemology, ethics, social and political philosophy, and aesthetics. Students will learn critical thinking skills, the main ideas expressed by philosophers from a variety of the world's traditions, how to develop and explain their own philosophical ideas, and how to apply those ideas to contemporary social issues and personal experiences. The course will also help students refine skills used in researching and investigating topics in philosophy."
This seems like a reasonable assumption. People doing right for one another. So my question is... what are they actually going to do about this?
Well, you're right. People don't like to do things for one another, specially since we're all self-centered (don't lie, everyone is. Even Mother Theresa was only trying to get into heaven,) so why don't they just setup some kind of policy to mediate the amount of time a person keeps a movie in their possession? Hm, people don't like losing money, right? That's bad. So, er, I know! How about, they setup some kind of system where if you keep a movie for longer than the due date, you pay some kind of fee for having it more time? It makes sense. They only borrowed it for that time, right, and if they keep it longer, they have to pay for that extra time! I'm a genius!
Uh... they did that already? Well, they're stupid for changing it.
In all fairness (this one without sarcasm),
1. Set a deposit payment for how many movies you want to be allowed to rent at a time. ($20 each?)
2. Let the person only rent that amount of movies, and if they don't return it... say, three months after the due date, keep that $20 and lower their max rentals by 1. So if they originally had 3 max, they now have 2 (Until they add another $20 to their balance).
3. Set the rental price for old flix to $2 and new flix to $3.
4. Wait three months...
5. Profit!
If the person even cancels their account with the service, you refund their cash deposit ($60, or whatever).
Just in case, I made a BT link for the video and have it running in the background. So if the site does get SlashDotted, you know where to get it.:) http://s2.isohunt.com/release.php?id=10330
Whoever marked the modded the parent down is an ass. He was just commenting about the similarity between the AVI video -and pictures- that the website hosts and its close resemblance to the iTunes visualizations that show up when you play a sound file. Not really off-topic, just a clever observation that any Slashdotter hoping to get a "+5 Funny" would post.
On the other hand, I got the vid before the site got/.ed. Ah, the advantages to waking up at 3:30AM.:)
We dislike the United States, but with good reason.:) So how's the microchip inserted underneath the skin to keep track of people coming along? The more I read news from the U.S., the more I feel sorry for the people that have to live under a constant barrage of FUD comming at them from front-left-and-center. Although it seems as though this FUD is starting to turn into a reality. Sounds like a Cyber-Punk movie.
I think the article missinforms. You don't have any software purchases. Unless it was reffering to the rights to use the software that you purchased. And as such, they control what rights and restrictions you are bound to by the terms in the, may I say, "Contract"? (a.k.a: "License Agreement").
IANAL, But I think that's how it works. When you buy something tangeable, you buy that specific item, and you can do with it what you like (legally... of course). But when it comes to IP, I think those that created the material deserve to choose what can and cannot be done with their works. Just because someone bought a copy of a book, doesn't mean they can change a few words and modify a couple of chapters, then release another version of it and not expect me to stay quiet.
Funny, I have seven torrent windows open in the background and am downloading (from every single one) at a constant 150 KB/s and uploading at a steady 25KB/s. I capped both up and down because the bandwidth consumption was getting rediculous. Maybe not that many people with good enough connections are seeding the file yet? Or maybe not all those 20 people connected to you have parts that you need, so you need to wait until someone else with parts you don't have go on before you can start dl'ing the rest?
Every time I read here on/. about how 'professional' programmers seem to think that it's to hard to actually take the time and effort to write failsafe code, and test it as such, I ask myself how many people would die if thier attitudes were used developing the flight management systems in our aircraft.
You have two "typos" in that sentence. Oh well, sh!t happens.
I for one, welcome our new cybornetically-enhanced/immortal overlords.
Seriously, am I the only one that sees the potential in making a liver that can take more than a couple months of hardcore clubbing? If not, perhaps just replacing it like used batteries? Or maybe just those nights when you drink so much that the subsequent DnD match seems all so realistic...
Nevermind, forget that last part... CLUBBING! YEAH! WOO! I'M COOL TOO!
Wow, I ran this right after Spy-Bot -and- Ad=Aware, caught 7 more entries that weren't identified by the 2 previously mentioned (yes, they're all updated). This just raised one of my eyebrows 3mm higher and allowed me to let out a soft-yet-audible "hm?". Looks promising.
You have to also notice, this isn't some huge sacrifice you're making. Those $120 or so fees you pay to the bank are pretty much the same fees you'd pay for any other. Stocking your account up with $2,500? Sure, I already have that. Pay at least 2 bills online? Hey! I do that already!:D
See my point? Switch banks and get a free iPod, and if you don't like the bank, after a year you can always switch back.
Oh my God, I wish I could mod you up. That just made my day. :)
... well, e-Day anyways.
If that were the case, then there'd be no trolls on slashdot.

Oh, Canada...
Instead of buying replacement toners when your cartridge run out, but a replacement printer. Hell, it's cheaper.

I think what it meant was, "you have access to hundreds of thousands of songs, that you can use to make any CD with".

Google, an AOL Time-Warner subsidiary? Prove it.
Oh, you got told!
Heh, I need to lay off the caffeine.

I sure hope the poor porcupine doesn't end up owing it's pimp money. That would suck for the pimp when he goes to smack it.
So maybe the answer to everything really could be 42!? *ponders*

Can someone that downloaded this seed a torrent of it, because the site is feeding this in at about 8KB/s. :? C'mon, help avoid a slashdotting!
I Agree, how's about those mods put them censors to -good- use and start crossing out 'dem URLs?
