Unless Microsoft is going to pay Mozilla millions to be the default search engine in Firefox like Google does, he is just pissing in the wind. What exactly are the Mozilla Foundation's sources of funding other than Google?
I realize I'm posing on Slashdot but I thought we at least read TFS here.
In an interview with DesktopLinux.com, Orr made clear that the 32% Linux netbook market share did not include either user-installed Linux or dual-boot systems, but was confined to just pre-installed Linux shipments
Just to clarify in case that isn't clear it DOES NOT include pre/fast boot installs (which would be dual boot systems).
How come the tin-foil hatters never seem to bring up the fact that you can simply vote with your feet if you don't like Google's privacy policies? Is Google pointing a gun at your head forcing you to use Google instead of Bing, Yahoo, Ask.com? The reality is those sites are probably collecting just as much information about you as Google is but they don't get nearly the same amount of attention.
You can't opt out government surveillance but there are plenty of ways to opt out of Google's.
Many people cry "anti-trust" when it doesn't really apply but I can't think of any clear cases where anti-trust law was applied when it really shouldn't have been. The two most recent examples of Microsoft and Intel both have clearly engaged in anti-competitive behavior in the past.
I always forget that Slashdot kills newlines unless you do them twice.
NBC News, MSNBC News = NBC Universal
Fox News, WSJ, NY Post, etc = News Corp
CBS News = CBS Corp/Viacom
ABC News = Disney
CNN = Time Warner
Is it surprising that the mainstream media isn't reporting on this considering that their parent corporations are the ones pushing this?

I actually found the print version to be kind of annoying. On a wide screen reading from one edge of the screen to the next isn't as comfortable as having it condensed in to the middle third of the screen like the regular version is. I actually Googled the page title to find the normal version. I'd rather wait the tenth of a second that it takes for the next page to load.
Slashdotters seem to have an irrational hatred for multi-page articles, but with AdBlock I'd rather have multiple pages than no formatting.
Windows Update offers me 34 language packs that I can install. Assuming that the Chinese version is the same I'm sure I could figure out how to install the English one even if the interface was in Chinese.
What exactly is Microsoft's recourse if Washington starts charging them higher taxes? Move their entire operation out of the state? Something tells me that moving 10s of thousands of employees and dozens of buildings out of the state would cost more than a measly (for Microsoft) billion dollars.
While this does raise some questions about the efficacy of the vaccine. It doesn't prove conlusively it does nothing.
Not that you would know that from the editorializing the author does.
I think you are a selling Alexander Flemming short. Perhaps Flemming should have patented his discovery of the antibacterial properties of penicillin and then sued Florey for infringing on it.

The tech companies seem to believe that CSIRO's patent is obvious and thus shouldn't have been granted. Is there any merit to this claim? Everyone seems to be either jumping to CSIRO (all the people with mod points seem to be on their side) or the tech companies defense without even thinking about the actual patent they are trying to enforce.
Wouldn't a tungsten telephone pole going .99c punch right through the Earth and keep going?

A comment critical of government that isn't +5?
This is Slashdot I'm reading right?
Linux malware that requires manual running is trivially easy to do. /
Copy and paste: sudo rm -rf
Enter your password
Come back when you have malware that can remotely infect a target machine without user interaction.
Perhaps Android apps don't sell as well as iPhone apps is because there are a LOT less Android phones than iPhones?

Crap like this makes me want to "throttle" Comcast.
Does that change the facts of the case?

Why does this even need to be debunked? The only threat poses is to smartphone navigation apps, not standalone GPS units.
Unless you live in Liechtenstein or Vatican City I have a hard time believing you've memorized every single road in your country.

If you are paranoid enough to be worried about ninja maids then you probably boot off a Live CD and keep all your data on the encrypted drive.
I'm not one who is usually prone to paranoid thinking but if they can do everything they claim then this is pretty scary.
Why not just show them what you did?

Is your invention obvious? If not, patent it.
Yes and as an American taxpayer I would like my money back for things like the Internet, GPS, etc.
