if I am a processor manufacturing company, and I write some software, why would I spend time working on optimization code for running on other processors?
Of course the code takes two different code paths for different processors! they have different instruction sets, and therefore optimization techniques for one differs from optimization techniques for another. why spend time optimizing your own software for the competitions hardware.
we are capitalists here! (i am anyway) why do we feel it's neccessary to help the limping competitor?
I have found myself changing fractions to decimals, but I can't think of a time when I wanted to chance something back to a fraction. Either way, it seems strange to want to cripple technology. Why would you let kids at that math level use a calculator to begin with? Their entire curriculum is calculator math. I didn't even own a calculator in college, and I got as far as Complex Variable Calc.
FireFox, after many an upgrade, now loads slower than IE. Once upon a time it was quick to load to mem and bring up the first window, but now I find myself waiting 10 or more second on a 3.06 P4 w/ 512MB ram. Did anyone else notice this as the upgrades occured?
I had originally switched to FireFox in the beginning becuase of the built in tabbed browsing. I never really had any issues with IE to begin with.
I will probably switch back to IE when 7 comes out, because it should have tabbed browsing.
FireFox's support of plugins is nice, but when a prog takes even 10 seconds to load with a 3.06 p4 and 512 ram, something is seriously wrong! I think Acrobat loads faster. What does that say?
Back in the day when I first downloaded FireFox, one of my favorite parts of using it was how fast it would load up the first window when opened. It was almost instantaneous.
The more I use it, the longer this actions takes. It doesn't matter if I clear cache and cookies, un-install plugins, or just plain uninstall and reinstall the browser.
Is it simply the newer versions that cause it to load so slowly? My roommate has the same problem. Is anyone else experiencing this and is there an answer?
I also do not see how this is time rather than space. It just seems like there is a different medium being used in this experiment.
It seems that the slits are being introduced to the particles, rather than the particles being introduced to the slits. The two maxima, are still in two different physical locations at any given time.
Listen... people aren't going to switch to linux until it is user friendly, and recognizes 99% of hardware off the bat like windows. stop living the dream! i fought with my linux box for hours trying to get a linksys wireless card to work properly when it took all of 13 seconds to get it up and running in windows. When linux finally does have this wonderful user friendly OS attitude, it will be as big and clunky as windows...
Isn't there anything simpler and cheaper that this? I recently bought a couple AirportExpress units for Apple user friends of mine. They are sort of what I am looking for, but I am not interested in using iTunes at all, and it seems like that is the only, or most convenient way of using the audio playback capabilities of the unit.
What WiFi device can i purchase for approx. $100 that will play all computer audio over WiFi?
"He searched through the software, found the few lines of code blocking the option from appearing on the screen, and viola, the Treo 650 is fully capable of Bluetooth DUN with any Bluetooth enabled computer or PDA."

This is a great example of showing how people feel ENTITLED to profits they were making at one time or another.
"...costing them money..."???
It isn't costing them any money!! They are simply not making money on things (classisfied ads) that they had previously made money on in the past... Sounds a lot like the record industry to me!:-)
People who block the ads are people who aren't going to click on them anyway!
Sure, I understand that just seeing that ads may create some form of product recognition, but either way, their measurments are in click throughs, so it shouldn't make a difference.
What I can't seem to figure out is why Norton and McAfee didn't include spyware detection and removal in their virus detection software from the beginning. I remember specifically reading something on Symantec's site that said something to the effect of "we are not targeting any 'spyware'".
Wouldn't this have saved a lot of problems? How is spyware not considered malicious?
Over and over again, I have to sit at friends' computers and rescue them from the evil clutches of the browser hijackers and such. I think Symantec and McAfee dropped the ball on this one.
I only had problems with Worldwind for about a week... after that, it's been working at a pretty good clip.
I haven't gotten any of the error messages they warn about.
I have posted a few time on this music industry thing, and I always point out that none of this fits the supply/demand model properly. WalMart is finally showing it for what it is.
The supply of this copywritten data is infinite, therefore there is no justification for the high prices and huge profits. WalMart should be able to get discounted prices buying bulk, especially considering the lack of limit on supply.
Or..... I can just copy it and throw it around on the net playing monkey in middle with the RIAA in the middle! Oh yeah...
Let's say I have some of this FBI, court ordered spyware on my machine sending them all kinds of info, and I just happen to find it chillin on my machine... What happens if I say "screw that" and delete it... and then keep on deleting it over and over... can I get in trouble for that?
Oh, by the way, I don't have a CD drive, so I am going to need that on floppies.
Thx!

Do I need to submit a Windows XP CD Key with my essay for verification??

So what happens when the software is created by many developers in one big open source orgy? Who are they gonna go after then?

One other big Windows pain in the ass is that renaming files doesn't change the extension, unless done in cmd window.
