Curious to know how long your fix lasted for - I've had to do this twice now on a late 2011 MBP 15" - the first fix died while scrolling pics in Aperture - now using Temperature Monitor and gfxCardstatus and so far onto another 3 months......
Hell, I thought I was one of the only ones to do 10+ years! (Physics M.Sc and Ph.D).
Its great you're getting paid for it.
For me, the regret after finishing and getting a job was realising how much 10 years worth of lost earnings was, multiplied by the timing of the housing price boom. On the other hand, 10 years of fun and non-stress means I look much younger than my old friends too!
Enjoy your last day of editing, printing and submitting - you'll feel light as a feather! And at our uni they give you a chocolate bar when you hand it in!
Indeed - hell I remember using OrbiTrack way back in 1995, driving into the middle of nowhere with an old powerbook 100 and hoping the lead-acid battery wouldn't die until the ISS came over! Good times.....
I'm guessing it's because not many scientists hang out here anymore, hence why no one's changed it. This place has really gone downhill in the past year or two....
OK, I've got a Motorala e398, came with a 64MB transflash card, think you can get 256MB now.
> No one will buy it.
I disagree. People bought ipods didn't they?
> you do not want or need the kind of playback quality on a phone that you need in an mp3 player,
Crap. The sound quality of the e398 is excellent, and thats exactly what a phone should have. Its a phone remember! And listening to mp3s I use the hands free headset that that don't-annoy-your-neighbour factor
>You want to be able to pause your mp3 player to answer your phone without losing your place;
Sure. And the mp3 player pauses when a call comes in. Guess what... they already thought of that!
> you want to be able to run your mp3 player all night without your phone battery being dead in the morning
that I'd agree with - even so, you do get hours of playback - and the phones no larger than an ipod mini
Overall - the phone seemed a bit of a gimmick at first but in the end its suprisingly good and works suprisingly well. Sure the interface could do with some optimisation but hey, its mainly a phone!
actually Team NZ were trying to get $100M US for their next challenge so X-prize becomes positively cheap looking at it that way.
And compared to new 747 size plane at around $200M and upwards - wouldn't be surprised if some of the bigger airlines would consider financing these ventures - Richard Branson can't have all the tourism market....
sure, but imagine if I said to you that most people have been using telepathy to talk to each other for say, a few years now.
You'd be pretty surprised, I'd guess?
Thats the same situation most people are with computers and email etc.If you don't know it exists, then you simply don't know it exists.
Pearse certainly did exist - I've seen the remains (fragments) of (what are described as) the engines he used in his planes, they're in the Pleasant Point Railway Museum, near Timaru in the South Island. I think theres a tiny scale model of the plane there too.
An EKG machine for $100!!!!! Wow.
Remember, its not a home-built speaker system - you know the cost of high-spec electronic components when not buying in quantity?
I'd also be very surprised if any hospital / medical facility would permit home-built medical equipment to be used on their premises - the liability would be enormous.
We used to do medical research that required us to work in hospitals and even to use stock off the shelf eqipment that never came into contact with patients (except for a light beam), they had to be first checked out by the engineering section to make sure it didn't have electrical problems that could cause overloads / blown fuses when operated.
And free software? While there may be freeware EKG stuff out there (I really don't know) I'd be surprised if it didn't require modification - then theres your time for mods, quality assurance etc.
Medical equipment isn't all 10000% markup - a lot of time, thought, different strategies, testing and certification goes into what may become a very simple looking item.
Its what happens when countries have differing costs of living.
With an M.Sc and Ph.d in physics, and after 10 years at uni and postdoc experience I get $25NZ an hour at a research lab.
Three months ago I was in Denmark picking strawberries, and also got $25NZ per hour (special low foreigners tax admittedly).
Um, so dosen't this imply that the computer is always playing 'catch up' or defensive chess? The computer is then always following what the human does.
Essentially then, Deep Fritz is the ultimate incarnation of the Word spell checker.
OK, so theres lots of good advice on porn. But what do you do to stop your kids downloading mp3s if your kid says 'but you've got them'?
I'm guessing most people here have at least a few mp3s that arn't totally legal.
Mp3s are like 'white lies' that adults use to blur the 'I can but you can't' arguement.
iPhone xs is not ithe same as os12
And in the cost halved so everyone can now afford to... http://www.theatlantic.com/bus...

Actually, they are. The most popular TV programs in NZ are about cooking and house renovation. (I am a NZer)
Hi - did you find a better podcast app (finally today I'm searching for something better with decent controls that doesn't crash with data turned on)

hey, can I get a 9 Vote battery around here?

66% of bugger-all is, well, bugger all.

hmmm, you're right, of course. Damn, I should've known that decaff was a bad move!

I think Dire Straits had 7 when they broke up. It gets fuzzy when you think of groups like the 'usa for africa' with about 30 biggish names.
