    parachutes work well as the drop distance increases, at lower drops they are unlikely to unfurl correctly in time to save the egg, for example being pushed off a table or tossed out a first story window.

    if the attorney was helping them hide what they did it is still in progress, if the attorney was advising them on the likelyhood of getting caught, penalties, and possible defense strategies it would be withing the scope of the job.

    those clips were admittedto be fully scripted. they were rendered in real time but done using pre-programmed movements and actions rather than being actual game engine output.

    "99 percent of all the books ever printed are out-of-print".

    that is an obvious statistic. it is impossible to keep pringing every, most , or even many of all books ever published. out of print doens't mean impossible to get it just means they aren't shipping it anymore. there are still loads floating around in used bookstores and new unsold stock that stores think they will be able to sell

    windows 98, i can stay out of swap with AIM 1.0 and a web browser window (works best with OffByOne, can use several tabs) if I use IE 5.5 it hits the swap file pretty hard but other than that it works fine.

    i have a PII 233 32 meg 6.3 gig sitting on the floor near me right now... well actually 2 of them but only one is hooked up

    i am setting it up with as much lightweight software as i can. AIM version 1.0 from oldversion.com offbyOne web browser to offer tabbed browsing with no javascript and IE 5.5 to handle anything that requires scripting and crap. i will probably go looking for the lightest IRC client i can find tomorrow and install notepad++.

    windows can be set up to run on older hardware if you really want to. but your options suck everything is a choice between missing features or slow as shiat

    office 97 still works just fine for document creation, you can also use abiword if all you need is word processing.

    3 years old? that is practically new unless it was the bottom of the shitbox heap when you bought it. 4 years ago i bought my athlon 2200+ based machine with 512 megs of ram and a radeon 9700 pro. just recently have i started holding off game purchases till i get a new machine because i doubt i can run the games well, i know i can run them.

    i'm tired but my point is that a 3 year old machine isn't that old at all even for a gaming computer for media it should perform flawlessly and office work (unless you insist on installing the latest version of MS orafice or OOo it will run just fine.

    they could TRY to kill DVD, but they will only end up killing themselves. DVD playing hardware is FAR more prevelant then VHS ever was, at most a household would have 2-3 VHS players one for each TV.

    now
    nearly every TV has at least one DVD player hooked up
    nearly every desktop or notebook PC has a DVD-ROM
    every Playstation 2
    and X Box
    and xbox360 has DVD playback.\

    also there are quite a few portable DVD players now.
    High end luxury cars have DVD players built in for the back seat


    they won't be able to kill off DVD for at least a decade and a half, probably longer.

    a more realistic law would penalize filiers of bad patents ifthey sue or demand money from someone then lose in court. make it a seperate court case with maximum damage of 25 times the amount sued for or demanded in exchange for a settlement.

    this would only kick in if the judge decides that the patent filier either filed the patent or demanded money on the patent knowing their patent was obvious and probably should not have been granted in the first place.

    just like you can get banned for using exploits in MMO's you should be penalized for exploiting PTO mistakes

    maybe even have "banning" patent filers and nullifyig all of their existing patents if they are found to be deliberately filing junk patents or making demands maliciously for things they know the patent does not cover.
