Well, and after switching from Links I can see the advantages of Mozilla...
Firebird works good on my machine. Are you sure that you don't have configuration problems which cause mozilla to crash? Maybe it's hidden in your taskbar when starting up, so that when you launch it, it starts up for a second time? It will then surely ask for another profile, since the first one is already in use.
I'm afraid that you should be afraid... Rumours are that the power-outage in the states was at least influenced by the Welchia worm. A NY-based powerplant had its system compromised by the worm. Anybody who knows more, please tell.
But since the electric net plays a fairly important role in making all the routers, servers, and millions of clients, including wireless devices work you cannot see the two apart... So to me it seems a non-issue : they both are connected and dependant on each other. Since the internet is used to connect electrical equipment all around the globe you could say that we have a global electric-powered information machine. And that is the real news here.
Having people sit at home is never good for an economy. If governments can get handicapped people to be (more) integrated and thus more productive, they can save a lot on welfare and such. Plus the people themselves will feel stronger because they participate in society. Having a handicapped person in the family can be very taxing. Being ill is not easy, and the situation can lead to psycho-sociological problems. The more the person can do for him/herself, the better the family will function as a whole.Remember, even psycho-sociological problems will cost (the family and society) real money.
That depends. If it is a network without real authentication based on real credentials it will be pretty secure. But if it is a real open netork then there is a major hole.
On an open network you can login under an untracable name and do what you want. All the isp can find in his/her logfiles is a mac-address and a phoney name, and if you take care that the mac cannot be traced back to you, you are safe. This is indeed the security-issue with the current wireless technology. The only way around this would be if people really authenticate on the network, but that's against the principle of an open network.
We dutch people are known to be blunt. Maybe that goes for our humour too.. I wass trying to make a joke. Despite the fact that i am really not well, you know, headache and nausea. I guess my dealer ripped me off...(joke!)
Right now i'm nauseaus and I feel a headache coming on. It culd be because I'm near Amsterdam with all its "radio-activity", because of "all the weed" I smoked today, or because of the sillyness of your remark. I'm off to puke while you make the decision.
Don't think so. Redhat for instance has strong support by important hard- and software vendors. And that's because a lot of people within the major companies recognize the strong points of Linux.
Right now the OSS companies are still experimenting with different business models. The mere fact that one company the size of Trustix goes bankrupt only shows that the companies still have a lot to learn. But they will succeed in the end.
This shows once more that Microsoft has become too dominant. If even the security companies can no longer speak freely without endangering their existence (and that's why they fired Dan Gear) then what kind of free speech do you really have? Only the kind you can buy...
The only 100% secure os is one that you write and maintain yourself. Provided your computer is physically secure as well...
So then you decide that you have to trust others in order to get an os. But who are you gonna trust? Governments like the Chinese? The EU? Multinationals like Microsoft? That doesn't sound secure to me. There is always the chance of compromise for various reasons, and you won't be able to find out.
The only way around this is very well known. The source must be available for all to see and scrutinize. This is the only way to ensure that software only does what you want it to do. This is one of the strong point of Open Source Software.
I tend to rank these people just as low on the societal ladder as those who write virii. You can argue about the damage that is done with spam. Sure, it will cost real bandwith and storage space and thus real money, but it's in a completely different league with the damage done by things like Welchia. Spam (with all it's side-effects that we all know and hate) is about making money. Virii are about destruction. Sending spam just means you are greedy and insensitive...
I am in no way defending spammers, but we need to keep things in perspective here.
Note that ftp.slackware.com will not allow ISO downloads starting with this release; instead, the first distribution of the ISOs will be via BitTorrent."
And if you are interested in becoming a professional, or you don't have the funding, look at www.cert.org . They have a lot of information about security, ranging from a vulnerability-database to complete worked-out methods for data-protection.
Bush cannot be re-elected. That would imply that he was elected before. He wasn't. He became president because of a lawsuit.
It's quite logical for them to say "lorry" rather than "Truck". Coming from a mouth with english dental works it would sound like "Fruck"...
We don't need to do that. Microsoft is completely capable of demonstrating their utter incapability to write secure and stable software.

I bought my first stereo in 1982. Nowadays I use a 5.1 surround system. What's the fuss about Mono? It's antique.

Cool. Great.
Now my boss can call me even when I'm on safari...

btw is that jealousy I sense?

I just wonder if Americans will ever rename their language to "American"...
A lot of British people are waiting for the americans to actually admit that their language has indeed little to do with The Queen's English...(joke)
and send Darl McBride up? We could make a community effort out of this.

For instance: BootCache.exe. Or Explorer-exe.
People do not really read these messages, so all they see is "error". Then they call tech support with said error message. Then you laugh.

Nothing. I posted this just to show there are alternatives. You then make the decision for yourself.
1)download an old ISO (8.1 or 9.0 are just fine)
2) install and run swaret (see freshmeat)
3) you now have a Slackware 9.1 box.

I, for one, welcome our new SCO Day Overlords!
