The ease of use of windows is a myth; you have been trained for many years to use and accept windows. Windows is a complex beast that requires frequent attention. There is the requirement for an anti virus due to an inherently insecure default email client. You also have a web browser that allows popup hijacking. How will Grandma deal when the entire screen "corner to corner" is a porno picture? How will your Grandma deal when she gets a fresh install of GATOR?
Now please tell me that knoppix or mandrake move requires the same attention.

With Walmart expanding its Linux offerings and the number of other countries (China for one) switching to linux this is the proper time to enter the market. I hope that this version is very strong and has a native feel. Maybe this will be good enough for people to switch. Maybe even good enough to make MS Office on Linux a mute point. With gentoo you can compile your packages from source. The -b flag will build and install the package, the -B flag will simply build the package as long as all dependencies are installed. You need only 1 build machine. You can roll your package(s) out to the other machines via a simple script. You can taylor your make.conf file to build the system you want.
Gentoo now has glsa-check, this command can be used to automatically update the system with security-related updates.
I hate dependency hell. With packages I had to install arts in order to install SDL. In order to install arts I had to install kde-libs. In order to install kde-libs I had to install qt. Is arts a requirement for SDL? No, this was decided by the package maintainer at compile time. This is one of the problems with one size fits all packages.
