    but management, who naturally "must" have their individual offices.

    Which they then congregate outside of to loudly talk with each other, various minions, visitors, etc. Right next to my cube. Or, my favorite: conference call on speakerphone with the door open. Then they get indignant when I close the door for them. Especially if I use superglue to keep it closed.

    And using the speakerphone in the cube farm should be a capital offense.

    I find that normal speaking volume tends to be inversely proportional to intelligence.

    Since the trip is most like an ocean voyage, send submarine sailors. They're used to being isolated for long periods of time while being reasonably self-sufficient. They know how to manage their environment and deal with emergencies.

    Just don't send anybody with them that isn't used to their sense of humor.

  13. In my high school the majority of the white male teachers were coaches first, and teachers second. No-one cared how well they taught as long as the football/basketball/volleyball/wresting team was winning.

    I heard that story on EscapePod http://escapepod.org/ and couldn't figure out what it had to do with SciFi, but that was true of most of the stories during their 'Hugo Month'. In fact, the hosts noted that the only reason some of those stories were on the show was because they were Hugo nominated.

    I find including or excluding anybody or their work because of race/gender/orientation pretty disgusting.

    I find NoScript combined with ABP works well for me. It ensures that what does get through probably won't be too annoying.

    It could, but unfortunately, Bertha hasn't moved in over a year. They're working on a vertical shaft to access the cutting head for repairs. Pumping out water for that shaft has caused ground settling in the area. The whole thing's a giant mess the taxpayers will be on the hook for.

    I had little or no problem cancelling Comcast recently when I moved. I used the phrase "moving out of the Comcast service area" when they asked why I was cancelling, and they put it right through. Had a little more trouble returning their boxes, however.

    Why not have multiple groups controlling? It eventually worked out for Twitch Plays Pokemon.

  24. Though that will only mean something to a few of us, that was the comparison I immediately made, too.

    I think NMCI (and possibly this NASA system) works just fine if you're a headquarters admin/management type and all you need is email/web apps/power point. If you actually have to produce something and require more than those tools, you're going to have a bad time.
