I dont think they have to... or maybe there isn't a set rate they "have" to lease them out for...
I used to work for a DSL provider, the reason other companies could provide it was that the phone companies have to lease the line access for cheaper than consumer price and there is a set price it has to be for every phone company. Not only for DSL service but for phone service.
I work for a cable provider now but I am not sure if it works like this. I guess in some areas they have agreements with other companies.
yea, just how the government tells us who we can call on the phone... or where we can drive to...
the government controls alot and we still have freedom to do what we like, just quit with the stupid idea that the government is there to censor. In reality the government dosen't care much about anything we do, as long as we go to war when they need us and we pay our taxes they could care less what we do.
Police and other authorities are only there so that everyone will feel safe. Freedom to do what you like will allways be around in the US, we've never been told what to think or what to do. They may try to influence us but it is allways our choice. Anyway, enough of my stupid rant that is completely off topic.
if you're getting errors where files cant be accessed and programs frequently just crash you might have a problem with your hard disk. Sounds like it's having read errors.
but that's probably up to your IT department to figure out
you probably upgraded from 2k to XP, upgrading usually causes wierd unexpected problems. I've been running XP fine for about 3 years, I've also been running FreeBSD for about the same time without problems as well.
in most operating systems it's usually suggested to just install a fresh copy, it will reduce errors later on down the road
you realise all those people you talked to are just phone reps, you didn't actually talk to anyone that could make a difference, there wouldn't be that kind of "retaliation" from people that dont care about your problem...
in fact I doubt if you called more than once you even spoke to the same "supervisor" as on your last call
I doubt he reads the messages, and even if he did it's his responsability to make sure no illegal activity passes through his server (it makes him liable)
if your company needs email I suggest setting up your own mail server and serve them that way instead of using the ever popular hotmail accounts
thank god, I thought I was the only one... everyone keeps comparing movies to the matrix and I keep saying "the matrix didn't come up with all those ideas, lots of it has been in anime before it!" I'm glad someone realises that the matrix isn't all original...
of course as a regular slashdotter I didn't bother to read the article
but from what I read, regular public records aren't going to provide that kind of information.... also assuming that there is some type of racial discrimination going on is absurd! just a while back on my flight I saw some "terrorist" lookin fellow working for security...
I'm tired of people assuming things like racisim just because it is easy to do...
I've been using vonage for about a year and I havent had hardly any problems (no more than I did with a regular land line)
I ditched my land line about 2 months after I got my vonage, I haven't looked back since. I moved accross country and I brought it along and still no problems. I'd bet alot of the problems people have had are on their own end and their cable company (my company told me they didn't have to support any service as long as I could view web pages)
I've been shafted so often that now I dont bother with even offering my service unless they agree to 50% up front before even hearing what I can do for them.
The BSD crowd isn't trying to win over people, I think that's why a FreeBSD LiveCD isn't making all the BSD guys gush with joy.
personally I am a BSD guy and a liveCD is nifty but I dont think I have a use for it, why would I use a live CD when I could just as easily install it?
I recently took a flight and I had 4 laptops, 5 batteries, 1 camera, gameboy, gameboy games, and tons of other elctronic gizmos on my carry ons. I put them all through the xray machine and they didn't even ask me about them. Funny thing though, I had all the batteries stacked up inside a zipper on one of the carry ons and they didn't even ask about it. In fact they didn't even bother me or ask about why I had all these things on me, for all they know I could have stole them from people in the airport. The only thing that kind of annoyed me was they made everyone getting in take off their shoes.
Anyway, alot of people have trouble through the airport and personally I haven't seen any of it. Only thing is I wish my family could have come to the terminal to wait with me until I left. But I guess that's just how the security goes.
First of all, you are an ignorant fool. How could you assume that all theives are drug addicts and have no plans?
It seems to me that most "nerds" have an elitist attitude thinking that everyone is an idiot if they do things that they dont agree with. First of all, I know plenty of people that steal for a living and they are some of the brightest people I know. They know alot about computers, they have connections to get parts for laptops and also they give the laptops to other people to sell. If you really think everyone is an idiot because they steal maybe you need to realise the smart ones are the ones who you dont get to see on the news.
I can guarantee you that most of the students in schools these days dont care much (if at all) about education. They wouldn't read a book or learn anything new if they didn't "have to" I seriously doubt that even if we shifted all the tax money to education the general population would still be as stupid as it is now.
The problem isn't that we need more education, the problem is we need to put the people that matter first. It should be, the workers and then the people that are smart. It's a cynical way of thinking but I dont think it's possible to make someone become smart. This is just my opinion and I think it would be a great solution, but then it would cause all kinds of problems with the constitution and stupid people would realise something was different when someone smart disagreed... maybe I'll just continue my life only associating with those that can understand simple scientific concepts....
So you're saying that people should sell modified free software that others made? I dont know about you but I hope my open source projects aren't used for the gain of others.
For $300 I can buy a Sharp Zaurus which already has a 320x240 display with 65536 shades of "gray". That is, it's full color.
I meant in the future when the tech is more usable and in full color, and much larger.
and as for book prices, I was just giving a random number.. it's been a long time since I've bought a book (besides english->X dictionaries) and I would assume books would cost more if anything because thats how it works, people want money.
Well, If I were a manufacturer I would charge a good price of 200-300 for the book which would have several pages but you could upload new content.
You could charge 10 bucks (average book price) for new books to add as well. Plus the cover could change based on the book. It would be pretty neat, and I hope they could make the texture of the book something like how it is now instead of some laminated type feel which I think it will be.
well, remember in 6 where luke is fighting Darth Vader? it wasn't all fancy spins and flips, they actually talked during the fight and it ended up being a major part of the film...
just because they have light sabers dosen't mean they can't use the fight to make an interesting story...
I think we're gonna have another matrix3 on our hands where there was far too much that had to be shoved into the movie, so the good stuff off every part was taken out, leaving distilled suckness.
actually I think the reason matrix 2-3 sucked was because there wasn't enough content so they distilled it to create 3 movies intstead of just 2 and I think that's what caused me heartache.. it could have been really good as two movies instead of good then horrible as 3
hopefully with this movie we get to see stuff that matters, this one has potential to be pretty good since we get to see alot of the things that kept us wondering in the previous 4-6, no one really cared to hear about jarjar binks but they did like the info about the Jedi in 1-2.
In number 2 I think a big problem was, when the Jedi were fighting and dying we didn't really care because they lacked any emotional attachment we didn't even know who they were so it was hard to make their loss seem important to the progression of the story... anyway enough of my rambling, it looks like there are more fights in this one so I hope it's better:D

I dont know about everyone else here but I consider porn entertainment ;)

using javascript I can meet all those requirements...
no need for any background programing..
I could write such a program only using php in cli mode while forking...
it's not as hard as it "sounds"
I had Ds and Fs in school and I was never busted...
never will be either, straight-A students make me sick... homework *shudders*

yea but also they could have taken out alot of the crap and developed the things that were important
I think it had enough content to make less than 1 movie, but if they had added in the things you mentioned it would have equaled 1 good movie
well, remember in 6 where luke is fighting Darth Vader? it wasn't all fancy spins and flips, they actually talked during the fight and it ended up being a major part of the film...

sorry for the double post, but I forgot to mention I too was reffered by word of mouth.
