Good, cause firefox has render problems on slashdot all the time (where as IE doesn't). I don't think its firefox, either, cause it doesn't happen on any other site I go to.
I've been using firefox for about 6 months and i read slashdot atleast 10 hours a week and i've never had any trouble at all.
I think a better idea would be to require passing a small test and getting a license to go on the internet. Then if your dumb enough to get a virus, ESPECIALLY AN EMAIL VIRUS, you loose your license for a month.
You actually helped out the manager by doing that, the manager gets bonuses based on percentage of service plans to total revenue.. if they keep the revenue without service down that helps them.... I worked at best buy for 3 years, and if someone wanted to buy a big tv without service that tv wouldn't be in stock
but what about Impress or god forbid powerpoint.. creating a presentation is fairly easy, yet can involve creativity and a sense of power over your computer.
If I was an OEM, I'd get a license from one of the companies to include AdAware/Spybot on the shipped systems and set it to run once a week. That's gotta be worth it to remove 12% of support calls!
They'll never do that because OEM computers come with software that spybot and ad-aware remove.
anything that goes online with out telling you. installs without asking, shows you ads, or sends info about you back to a parent company... was this a fresh xp install or an oem install?
Ok, well what about Apple computers, or game consoles like Nintendo. All retailers of their products have to keep their price above a certain minimum. Why is that not illegal?
A stupid windows user will be an even more stupid linux user. Sorry to tell y'all this. Them the breaks.
I think mac should make a cheap computer, with an ad campaign that asks "Were you stupid enough to get an email virus?"
I suggest linux desktops be setup ahead of time by big companies (hp,dell, etc.) and don't give the user the admin password unless they pass a basic knowledge quiz. Most users just need Konqueror, Gaim, and Open Office.
yeah, like how a man and a woman who are just friends live together and say their married in an evil secret plot to steal health insurance.... THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN
'Microsoft says it is investigating reports of the vulnerability. When that inquiry is complete, the company will take whatever steps it deems necessary, such as issuing a new patch
lets just hope they release the patch on purpose this time
The site writes over your aim profile with a link to itself.. it checks to see if you have ie, and if you do it launches a.hta file that does the dirty work... thats all i know
Forgive me if this is an obvious question, but why run a dedicated "firewall operating system" when hardware and software firewalls are available?
Software firewalls suck, for two main reasons
1. they're only as strong as the operating system they run on... if this is windows, then you're screwed
2. you're computer still has to do all the blocking, the point of the firewall is to block unwanted traffic before it makes it to your network.
now the only reasons I can think of(prove me wrong) for running smoothwall instead of a dedicated hardware firewall is that its way cheaper if you alredy have an old pc lying around(like most/.ers) plus its just plain cool.

and who *really* wants to bother supporting child porno slime.
Noone, and thats why they chose kiddie porn first. Who would dare stand up in defense of someone horribble like that?. The point is, whos next?
First they came for the socialists,
and I did not speak out
because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.

Much as I like iTunes, Sony has several advantages
That was only 2.
I'm pritty sure they use Dictionary.com as the spell check. Don't quote me though, Unless you say don't quote me after quoting me. ;)
What do they count as spyware?

they expect their computer to "Just Work",
they should get a mac

In other news, SCO claims to own the copywrite on math
So they make a digital uberdevice that does everything. Then what do they sell next xmas?
the same thing but they add 10,000 to the title
What about "Gates"? They could have a slogan like "Why stare through the Windows if you can walk through the Gates..."
I dont have anything useful to say, but HAAAAAAAAAAAA
when they could have us do all the marketing for them.

Grow up. Settle it by the law.
/.
or atleast taking down the site the old fasion way... by posting it on
www.sco.com
I see another way for skr1pt k1dd1es to invade systems,
.hta files were earlier today when i was checking this site out... *warning, dont view it in IE, escpecially if you use AIM*
I was wondering what
www.realphx.com
I should have known the always specific /.ers would have pointed this out. this is what i meant to say, i should have been more specific.
software firewall - anything that can be installed on a client computer such as zone alarm, tiny personal, etc.
hardware firewall - anything "purchased" to be a firewall, like a dlink router, or a checkpoint box.
i only used those terms in that manner because thats what the original post used.
Forgive me if this is an obvious question, but why run a dedicated "firewall operating system" when hardware and software firewalls are available?
