I'll tell you what all the whining is about. We need as many eyes out there as possible or else we won't see THEM coming! Saving a few tax dollars now is going to feel real foolish when we're enslaved by some alien race.
Couldn't help but notice the photo with the floating brains. I didn't realize the Brain Spawn were here already (although that would explain some things going on in the world). I'm not sure we can wait 1000 years for Fry to wipe them out.
Don't forget Nikon. I'm currently shopping for a new camera. I'm only looking at brands that support CF. Partly because I already have several CF cards, but there is a reason I deciced on CF in the first place. Looks like I'm going to buy a Canon or a Nikon.
M$ Marketing person reads in the morning paper that America is becoming increasingly obese. While walking through the cafeteria, same person overhears two engineers comment about M$ owning a patent on FAT. Light bulb goes off in the dim-witted marketing persons head - Cha-ching!
Of course, Linux companies aren't worried about it. It's us overweight users and coders that should be afraid!
Let's see, after I make out my $699 check for SCO, I have to send how much to Bill & Co?
My mom always told me I was just big boned. I guess I'm just boned. Again.
Personally, I don't use P2P software. I have several computers and a lot of experience. Anything I want, software or music, I buy.
That said, I haven't bought major label music in years - on principle - because of the RIAA's actions. I've written letters to my favorite artists who are with major labels and informed them of my decision. Will it make any difference? Probably not. But who knows? Maybe some artist with enough respect and clout will speak up in behalf of the fan.
The way things are going, the RIAA will eventually sue everyone with an ISP account regardless of what they use it for. (Perhaps a tax, like on music CDRs. Given enough money, I'm sure our elected officials will agree to that.)
Their business model is doomed. They even see it. The question now is how long can they hold out and how many people's lives can they screw up before they go? (Sounds almost like SCO's plan.)
All I can say is this thing helped me out of a jam a little while ago. The program is not polished by any means, but it does work.
Our company had a document (Employee Handbook) converted into MS Reader format. (Don't ask me why.) The original files were lost in a disk crash. (Don't talk to me about backups either.) Now the document needs editing. I could have re-typed it, but I'm lazy. A quick Google and I find this program with a potentionaly offensive name.
Hooray! I get to be lazy and violate the DMCA just to retreive a file owned and created by the company I work for. The incident only reinforced to everyone here the value of pdf files and that MS Reader is beyond worthless.
I can dig it.
To hell with encryption products, I'm investing in tin foil companies!

"Can you hear me now?"
"Good."
Cool Idea. Not unpickable.
Locks exist to keep honest people out.
www.scumgroup.com = ROTFLMAO

You tell 'em. Someone called the cops the last time I exposed myself.
Slashdot is a community for discussing news stories.
BBC is a respected news provider.
You are not smart enough to be a troll.

Of course, if you can't be part of the solution, be part of the problem.
That's why I print everything!
Ooh, just look at all of those zeros and ones.
I don't understand?
How is it cheaper when it will cost them $699.00 per processor?
Well I agree, its not exactly news, but hey, its Saturday.
What do you want, another SCO story?
The toilets around here need a good scrubbing.
Of course, we all knew this in our hearts, nice to see it in writing.

Dude, turn in your membership...
You missed:
Microsoft!
RIAA
MPAA
and the potential Beowolf cluster (Imagine).
My grandfather once told me, "Remember, a pun is always the lowest form of humor... (pause) Unless you think of it first."
to the best "make-out" ride ever.
At least to this hormone driven teen in the late seventies (before the geek gene fully asserted itself). Ahhh memories.
This is /. You forgot step 5...
5. Profit?
Now bring back Futurama and all will be forgiven.
In the meantime, thank goodness for Cartoon Network and DVD's.

If Cartoon Network want to spend some money, why not make some more episodes of Futurama?
I don't care about the Star Wars universe anymore.
