I love this argument, because it's sooo liberal.

In short it's "Don't worry about consequences, we'll figure out how to fix them."

Now, don't dismiss it out of hand. The author is right - over time, people have solved some rough problems. The danger is getting fooled into it... for instance:

Don't worry about smoking, we'll figure out how to cure cancer. I'm absolutely certain that someone will figure out how to cure cancer. I'm also absolutely sure that cure (for lung cancer) isn't going to be in the next year.

So, let's take things a little more conservatively, and not spend our money before we have it. A little risk is worth a little reward - playing Russian Roulette is a dumb thing to do.

Thing is, Christians have a lot to loose if they behave violently. A houses, food, families, cars, dvd's, friends. In short, Comfort. Now, if you start to see more discomfort, well now, I predict their will be a bunch more Christian acts of violence. Nothing keeps a society stable than a nice warm pillow and a full stomach.

Happened before (Crusades... others...) and it will most likely happen again.

Oh, and the comforting thought: considering there are a fair number of Christians with Guns, it'll be pretty darn bloody when it happens.

Don't get me wrong, Christianity is a wonderful thing! We would all do a little better to practice some of his better teachings! It's what happens when people get pushed to the limit that bad things happen, and it's all to easy to justify violence in the name of the Prince of Peace (or in anything else, for that matter.)

Looks like Bush and Co. are going to cut government programs. You know, to keep costs down. Sorry, we can't keep giving you guys free groceries, we have a war to fight. Don't ever forget, these guys HATE social programs (well, those that aren't run buy a bunch of stary-eyed Bible thumpers who believe that the world is flat... but I digress...) So this war gives the ultra-neo-cons the reason to rape social and and other programs. Most people will say "well, as long as I'm kept safer, that's fine with me."

In the great state of Minnesota, the state has already closed a bunch of libraries. That's how insane this is going to get.

Now, don't forget, there is quite a surplus of $$$ going to your kind oil companies and the military industrial complex. It works for the owners, while we renters are paying for them.

Of course, when the Iraq thing (and Iran - looks like we're going to go after that...) settles down, there won't be social programs, and most people will have exactly the same lives previous citizens had during the happy go lucky days of lumber barons and the company store.

And what's funny - most of the neo-cons are running around with "Vote Freedom First" bumper stickers. Freedom for who?

Luckily, you all missed my point: There are people who tithe 10%. Poor people. I'm talking about people living on a fixed income, trying to figure out if they should eat or buy medication. Now, they give 10%, which could very well kill them.

They are making a sacrifice. For charity.

Bill Gates could give away 90% of his wealth, and he would still be very wealthy.

In short, Grandma can give $100 and be donating a hell of a lot more than Bill Gates.

Finally, these are basically synthetic tests - it would have been a little more useful to see something like database access tests.
