Sure they can. The features can still be disabled. The spec just says they have to be there as an option. For example, 4XAA can still be disabled in a game's options or even in the driver.

I haven't had a TV for years. I assuring I'm enjoying my PC, consoles and anime. This isn't about Television sets, this is about service.
Also, the only numbers were given are for the low TV viewers. There's nothing that suggests it's due to the Wii or anything else. For all we know the Japanese have all taken up outdoor activities.
A few years ago I was hell bent on completing that game on a single life. I managed to pull it off after playing it many many many times. One of the most difficult things I've ever done in all my gaming. Speaking of the speed stage, there's a hidden bonus level on that stage. I'm not sure if every stage has one but there's certainly a few.
I use Skype's "Skype Out" service which allows me to call landlines via VoIP. But I do not have "Skype In", which allows incoming calls. When I call someone their Call ID shows "Unknown" or random numbers. How can the law expect me to have a valid Call ID if I do not have an incoming number at all?
I'm not sure about everywhere but in CA, vehicles can not break laws, people do. And to charge a person running a light, it must be possible to identify that person. So if your face is obstructed from the camera's view, they can't enforce the charge.
MS made a solid console for the hardcore gamers. They need to stick with that. Nobody's trying to play puzzle, party, kiddy games on xbox. I want some violent adult shit on there. Competitive games with Live support. I was going to buy a 360 on day one but there are not enough hardcore games out. The last thing I want to see is MS putting out family crap. Where's the fighting games? Where's King of Fighters? How about some shooters, Ikaruga 2 anyone? Games these days are dumbed down and soft. I want some something I can't beat on the first or even 10th try.
Let the Wii have their market. MS your Way too late to take it away from them. Focus on Your market. I've got a Wii already. When I want those kinds of games I'll play them on Wii. MS, give me a reason to buy a 360. I've been waiting for one since launch.
"A decent 3d-engine is a non-trivial thing to make, and if he's dissatisfied with the features of the current open source offerings, I'll bet he'd be in for many months work on the engine before he had something usable."
Couldn't agree more. Assuming he's not working on it full time, were talking years, not months. I'm currently 2 years into putting together an engine and I'm just now able to make a demo out of it. Unless you have a team and plenty of time to dedicate, your probably better off using an existing engine.
Now if only I could disable those new sounds. B-Button scrolling is a bit too sensitive. I liked it better before. D-Pad scrolling is a nice alternative though. Opening the address bar does not open it with the current URL. That would have been nice. It would also be nice if it would make plain text URL's into links. Manual entry is hell without a keyboard. New font features kick ass! Text is MUCH easier to read now!
My brother plans on getting a computer today. I'm assuming it'll come preloaded with Vista. He's not tech savy and lives on the other side of the country.
So now I'm bracing myself for the inevitable problems he'll be having. If it were possible for him to buy a new computer with XP that would have been more ideal.
If anything, Vista is a reason Not to buy a PC right now!

Anyone know a rough price for these?
I Really like the two flip up helmets linked below but these Transitions seem quite ideal for someone with less then perfect vision.
I would buy these in an instant! I commute on a motorcycle and often times I leave in the morning. Unless it's cloudy i have to put on my sunglasses before the sun is even up. Then I ride north with darkened vision. But I have no choice because later I have to ride into the sun as it's rising. Impossible to safely do without the shades. Wearing a helmet, even with a flip up face-mask, it takes too long (and again, is unsafe) to fumble with putting on shades while on the bike.
With these, I could easily turn a knob while at a traffic light. I just hope they put the knob where I can get to with with the helmet on, and while wearing gloves. Hell if they just made helmet visors that'd be even better!

Funny, I read it as "Horsepower".

This is a tad bit better. I'd suggest they find a better model though! http://www.lumigram.com/catalog/product_info.php?c Path=1&products_id=39&osCsid=08d3d66e56374b840d972 f7fa9a42647

Yeah but then there's all the people complaining on the forums that their Wii's have run out of memory due to all the VC games they've downloaded.
You forgot zombies ...think of the zombies.

My point was, you can easily get old games. Yet Nintendo's making a killing on Wii's Virtual Console.
Were going to take over the world!
Tell that to Nintendo.
What makes you think everyone else is a fake just because you are?
I'm posting this from my Wii and indeed typing /. works here as well.
