  1. Google Pacman on JavaScript/HTML 5 Gaming? · · Score: 1

It isn't flash, although I'm not sure if it is HTML5, or just heavy javascript http://www.google.com/pacman/

  2. Their commercials all featured stalkers on Microsoft Kills the Kin · · Score: 1

The first commercial for the Kin that I saw had a teenage girl visiting her social network. The first person she met was an old guy who she thought was younger, as the guy had used a young picture of himself when he friended this teenage girl. Why was this old guy pretending to be young and friending teenage girls?? They must have thought it was funny, but it came across as super creepy. The most recent one has a guy following and taking pictures of his ex-girlfriend who is trying to ignore him and pushing him away. The guy goes back to his house and keeps looking at the pictures he took of her. Creepy again. Awful campaign.

Was that the animated version of Warcraft that was going to come out? Looked like a game for little kids? That was funny. Glad they pulled the plug on it, but wish they would release what they did create just for kicks.

  6. Prices really not bad on Sony's Conference The Day After · · Score: 1

When I bought my PS2 the week they came out, a DVD player was around $150. Instead I just got a PS2 which was my DVD player and game system for a long time. I finally picked up a $30 DVD player last year just because it was so cheap, but really the PS2 played movies fine.

Given that Blue Ray players this christmas are probably going to be around $500, I think the PS3 will be looking like a sweet bargain for those in the market.

I'm also glad Sony was forced to wait til this Christmas to come out with the PS3. That's a more reasonable life cycle for the PS2. Factor in a cost per year and the Xbox with it's shorter lifespan looks alot more expensive.

  7. Re:Anybody here has seen the movie but NOT the sho on Orson Scott Card Reviews Everything · · Score: 1

I haven't seen the TV show, but I loved the movie. The characters were great... the captain reminded me of the best of Han Solo. A scoundrel but also a hero. The tech also wasn't neat and polished like Star Trek. The ship was a mess. It had a very real feel to it. So did the people. After seeing the previews I was afraid the humor would be cheesy, but it was just refreshing. I was afraid the girl River would be a bad actor and ruin the movie like so many other movies with children in them, but she did great. I thought the idea of a solar system with a bunch of planets in it was a wonderful idea... forget about trying to invent hyperspace or some other scifi solution to interstellar travel.

I haven't seen the series, but I've set my DVR to record it, and I'm looking forward to it.

I should say that I was a huge fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so I may be naturally inclined to like Joss' work. I just didn't have time to watch the series when it originally aired.

  8. Why take it with you on Condensing Your Life on to a USB Flash Drive? · · Score: 1

I understand the desire to want a copy of your personal records, but why keep it with you? Let's say you are out to dinner one night, and your house, with your survival gear and USB backup, all burn up. You'll want those records for the insurance process.

Every year I photograph any major purchases, scan the receipts, scan any other new important documents, and burn them all to 2 CDs. One I keep in my fire safe, the other goes in my parent's fire safe, in another state, out away from a big city. If something ever happens here, I can worry about my life, and not my records, as I know they'll have a copy.

  11. Price of Robot vs new Hubble on NASA Seeks Proposals For Hubble Robotic Servicing · · Score: 4, Interesting

Niven seems to have had this problem across the board.

I really loved his books The Legacy of Herot, and The Mote in God's Eye... but a couple of years later he wrote sequels to both that were just terrible. He undermined the stories of the originals and filled the sequels with mindless drivel.

That said, I highly reccomend the first book of both of those, and Lucifer's Hammer. All three of those books are imaginative, gripping, and well worth the read.

  14. It's all relative on Cable TV Versus Satellite TV? · · Score: 1

I recentally went through the same thing. I moved from California to Florida. In CA I had Dish Network and never had a problem. I put it up in FL, and it would work fine through most rain, but the really heavy, hard, tropical depression stuff would block the signal. The bad thing about that is you really just want to sit inside and watch TV on days like that. Its a frustrating time for it to be down. During the summer I had another problem with my dish in that the heat of the sun cooked the electronics on the dish. It was 4 years old by then, and Dish wouldn't give me a replacement for free so I cancelled the Dish and went with Cable. Our cable service here (BrightHouse) is great. I get more channels than I did with basic Dish, plus they have icontrol for their PPV movies, which lets you start them when you want and pause and rewind. This is with the basic cable box. You can upgrade to a full DVR cable box which is like TIVO. Another advantage is that I can get regular non-digital cable on all the other TV's in my house without the need for extra boxes. Overall I've found BrightHouse Cable, here, to have several benefits over Dish. Of course all cable companies are different, and all weather situations are different.

  15. Re:Change the Behavior on Traffic Light Control For The Masses · · Score: 1

I think we may have something like that here in Tampa. In some intersections, the traffic lights each have a small white light hanging off the bottom that can be seen from all directions. If the light it hangs from is red, it lights up. Otherwise it turns off.

I'm not sure it's part of a system like this, but I can't think of anything else it might be used for.
