but it isn't on rails, a rails shooter is something specific. Don't be lazy say wtf you mean. I absolutely loved the atmosphere in Bio-shock, if that means the world isn't huge, then fine. I don't want a world ten times bigger than it needs to be, where 90% of it is empty just making it harder to find objectives especially if it means locations/artwork is just copied or mass produced at a lower quality. Bio-Shock wasn't meant to be Fallout 3 or Oblivion.
Bioshock is most certainly not on rails. Unless you mean there is really just one course through the game (which isn't true either).
When you say something like "on rails" those words have a specific meaning don't ruin the meaning by applying the term when you mean something else.
I don't know about you I'm interested in knowing if the traffic sucks. Maybe I can find a different way home. I'm interested to know when my friends from out of town/out of state are coming to town. Posting to twitter is a lot easier than emailing/im'ing twenty different people. It also means when you post something it's going out to only those people who actually are interested in seeing it.
I think your thoughts about why other people use twitter is more telling about you as a person than anything else really. Why do you need to disparage the tools of others? what kind of person needs that sort of validation?
MS is not the one perpetuating the attacks, or causing the damage. There are no laws holding them responsible for creating a secure operating system. Rounding them up and punishing them is hardly legal/ethical/moral. The first thing we should do is start with laws requiring the people creating the networks/data warehouses to secure them properly. Then they'll demand a better product (from MS or some other vendor) if not they should be responsible (unless said vendor wishes to indemnify them).
MS is just trying to make a buck, they're not actually attacking anyone.
It doesn't use a JVM is uses Dalvik vm. SO it is something more than a typical j2me vm and something less than a full JVM. It has its own windowing tool kit, it does not use awt or swing or swt. Personally I think the Android OS is pretty slick, inter-application communication is interesting.
Public cameras in public spaces provided by the public (tax dollars) are fine as long as they are completely public (anyone can view/record them). If you are walking down the public street, I don't think you have any expectation of privacy. Put the same cameras in a blimp and float it over private property (as I believe they do in some countries) and no that's not cool. You have a perfectly reasonable expectation of privacy in your own back yard. Honestly I think its a decent idea and could be used to watch the watchmen so to speak.
Mod Parent up... in an attempt to add even more mod points to GP. This practice is endemic to all consutling companies. I'm sure there may be exceptions. I'm kind of torn philosophically. I don't think most companies have any business running their own software development shops, it should be outsourced to "experts" but billing by the hour is not really a good solution and buying COTS products really isn't ideal for a large portion of the industry either. Set price contracts to deliver a product that meets the details of said contract can be extremely tricky and end up in lawsuits.
Not sure what the answer is.
If you isp billed by useage they'd have every incentive to give you the fastes connection possible. How is this a bad idea? I think it would be awesome.
If they billed the same way... I think it would be good. All the telcoms would suddenly be working very hard to get the fattest pipe into everyone's home. The bigger the connection the more you can use the more they can charge.
Or you can run cable through your place. Pop off the baseboard, some minimal drywall work to install the face plates. Something that can be done on a Saturday morning. Wired connections are better for watching videos or playing games and you're going to end up with the same issue regardless of it being an xbox or a pc.
I'm building a home PVR (in a distributed manner), I've got an hdhomerun box, nas with two 500gb, and I'm looking at building a myth backend machine to save streams from the hdhomerun to the nas. I was trying to decide if I should use a SSD or traditional HD. I don't think I need a whole lot of space on the machine as I want the video saved to the nas. It looks like SSD is the way to go if I can find one reasonably priced.

Really its a tool. Something like a cross between IM, a mailing list and a personal RSS feed. It has its own niche. If its not useful to you, don't use it. I can only presume all the hate comes from its sudden popularity and the rather stupid name (both of which bring to mind obnoxious teenage fads). Oh well I would think people would be smarter than just hating on a tool b/c of two superficial reasons.
I'm no lawyer, but I think in one instance you purchased a physical item in the other you didn't purchase anything physical (the bits were already on your machine). It's reasonable to assume you can resell your physical media. I guess what would be interesting to see is someone selling an ipod on ebay full of music (that they legally purchased). I know there similar issues on ebay before (but I believe it involved pirated music or music of questionable origins).
I like the convenience of downloading games, I like to believe that there is a cost savings that is passed down (no physical media, no shipping, and no middlemen). Things that have to be weighed against the inability to sell the game when tired of it.
I agree with your post. (or the cut of it).
I disagree with your tag. IF the government is taking over private corporations that sounds like tyranny. IF the government is *buying* private corporations, I don't see any loss of liberty (provided you have a choice in the sale).
I've seen some of the DLC content for sale on physical media. Still can you blame the publisher? Lets be honest here what you bought is a license, you don't own the game (regardless of the distribution system).. You own a license to play it. You don't own the right to use the game characters to sell your products you don't own lots of other rights to the game. I think this is reasonable. If you want the right to sell your "license" that you purchased of a particular game/music, they're not going to give that to you. You're going to have laws written to require that. Go talk to your congress person.
Requiring GOLD xbl membership for last.fm is silly. That being said, its free (for Gold members) they're not charging you for it. As for downloaded games those aren't free on the pc.

They won't... because hate them all you want they serve purpose. I don't understand all the hate for twitter, in fact I bet if the name was something else no one would have a problem with it. It fills an odd niche between email list and IM. Its a medium.. nothing more nothing less. Social networking sites well they keep people in touch. Your blog on what your dog ate? meh. no one cares.
I've always had weird insane imaginings of blimp trains. Long snaking trains of airships that could carry passengers/cargo cross country with out the need for laying down roads/rails. They could moor to skyscrapers downtown to drop off passengers goods.
I'm sure there are many reasons why this just isn't feasible, but damn I think it would be cool.
I've been tempted to do the same just for the player made campaigns. I'm not sure how it will run on my mac mini (latest generation with 4gb of ram). I dunno I may break down and try it.
I bought the game for xbox (or actually I bought the xbox for this game and it has rekindled my interest in playing video games). I can give the game away if I want =)
I can't imagine playing l4d on a pc. I enjoy sitting in my comfy couch with the surround sound and 54" TV. Clicking mouse buttons instead of pulling the trigger on the controller would just make the game seem to fucking sterile./if 3 dollars a month for XBL is too much of a problem you shouldn't be playing video games.

You're officially old. When did the change happen? was it gradual? Are you shouting at kids to stay off your lawn?
And here you are posting in community forum. How very social of you.
One that makes sense to non-techies? One that is presumably vetted by Novell?
