as we all know too well.. it all depends on which platform the game developers choose...
i personally think Sony will reign here. M$ is known for buggy software, and Sony has (as far as i have heard) a pretty nice development system...
all i want to know is WHEN are we going to see a Linux based game console?!? thats what we NEED!:) open hardware specs and open software running it. these console makers need to realize that they cant do everything! if i were them, i would create a nice standards based console, then open the specs on the thing and let the developers do what they may with it.
of course, we will never see sony, nintendo, or microsoft ever do anything like that;) how much you want to bet the XBox will have some type of microsoft bios/rom that will make it impossible to install linux on it?:)
I installed Linux the second i received my first Picturebook, before anyone had Linux on it...
im not going to argue this point, i do it for the same reason i would buy WinCE devices and try to get Linux on them too... there ARE Picturebook camera drivers, and if it doesnt work, ill try to write my own...
This is slashdot. Why do you thing Linux drivers were brought up?:)
I for one am going to install Linux on it the second i get it!
I think its VERY sweet that it has an 8meg 3d video card... drooool... if the modem works in Linux, ill be happy with it! My current Picturebook is definatly worth every penny i spent on it.
everything available through this service, will be available for FREE through their FTP site...
this is just a "click here and wait for redhat to update everything for you w/o any hassle" service... HelixCode GNOME is doing the same service, and i believe they are going to be charging for it as well...
im all for it actually... think about it, how else are you going to make money on linux other then tech support? all these linux companies need to do now, is set up a nationwide network of linux consultants to help them get linux into the average businesses...
anyone using it from the inside is nutz, thats what cd-r disks are for;) this is a great tool for l337 hAX0rs to hide their logins once they r00t a box somewhere behind a firewall... people SHOULD log dns requests though...
one thing i have noticed (and i install firewalls for a living, i would know) is that a LOT of companies with firewalls, dont even really look at their logs... its kind of sad... too many people have the mentality 'the firewall will stop them'
This opens up a LOT of posibilities... Most companies do not log DNS queries, at all... NSTX along with SSH are almost a guarenteed way to hide traffic going in and out of a firewall in most companies...
Also, as far as i know, most firewalls that implement stateful inspection, do not support statefully inspecting DNS queries... (im going to have some fun with this little program;) yyesss!
i agree with you 100%.. i used to assemble and sell pcs (i dont now, much more money to be made in various software services) and the problem as i see it, people are going to take advantage of this law...
ive personally seen people buy my pcs, then return them 1 week before the 2 years is up, and say everything is broken... (and i would be willing to bet that they removed the hard drive and droped it a few times until it had internal damage)
after 2 years, the industry is completly different ! i couldnt even get their '2 gig drive', since all computers get '8 gig drives' now, etc... ALL PCS should come with a 1 YEAR REPLACEMENT ONLY policy, and thats it. (unless the reseller wants to charge extra for more time, which would lose money in the long run, imho)
very very cool:) i own over 60 titles from ADV films:)
all i REALLY want is Cutey Honey and Slayers movies (all of em) on DVD! oh... and Bubblegum Crisis 2040 on DVD would kick ass as well.. its SUCH a good quality anime, and in a digital format, would look great on my big screen tv
DVD of Variable Geo would rock too... i dont have too many requests, do i?:)
I own like 7 Amiga systems... (My Amiga 4000 kicks butt:) They are pretty outdated now. I would love to see new hardware, with an updated custom chipset. Something fully documented, etc...
The thing i see here is just another closed source operating system with an Amiga-like GUI and a Java-like programming engine. (correct me if im wrong) And a couple of cool Amiga guys that were able to get the Amiga name from Gateway...
I miss the Amiga hardware! Those machines were awesome toys:) But the new 'Amiga' guys need to come to the realization that the ONLY way to survive, in the 00's, is to open source everything. Otherwise, Eazel is looking better to me more and more every day..
looking at their press release at http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/000607/ca_va_l inu.html i noticed that freshmeat and valinux were links, but slashdot, thinkgeek and others were not... anyone know why they choose to link those certian sites and not the others?

80 gigs is NOT ENOUGH! I want to be able to have a few movies on my drive and think nothing of it... bring on the 80 terabyte drives! woohoo!
> 3. Any topic which doesn't deserve a coherent discussion doesn't belong on Slashdot anyway.
:) but i may be wrong
Im curious.... what, in YOUR opinion, DOES 'belong' on Slashdot?
I tend to think whatever 'the compound <tm>' in Michigan thinks is 'sweet <tm>' belongs here..

what is that supposed to do? i dont have one of those C: drives...;)
heh, doesnt do much on a Linux box
damn! you MADE me click on that link!
It seems Jack Valenti AND Bill Gates need to be treated for brain problems... They both seem to forget important stuff a lot...
hehe, good post :)
Thanks for the link :)
here is yet another, 'me too'!
:)
I would PAY to see MST:BE - woohoo!
