sigh... i was looking forward to installing this:) but i cant get the installer to work
'Unable to parse mirror listing' is all i get when i select a mirror site, i was able to get all of the rpms, but the installer wont let me click Next when i select the local directory, aarrgg..
I know this should be sent to the helix support site (which is quite slashdotted right now;), i was just curious if anyone else is having the same problems i am?
If it means anything, the GNOME installer looks really cool:)
oops, i forgot to finish the question:) I wonder what he thinks about the upcoming 3d window managers, 3Dwm and Synapse? (according to what is available now, i.e. screenshots, ect..:)
HAHAHAHA This is totally awesome! I want more!:) I dont care if people are pissed about this, MORE MORE MORE!! Give this Anonymous Coward a regular spot on slashdot! YES! MORE!!!
Where are all of first posts?!! Damn script kiddies arnt Y2K compliant i suppose...:)
I HATE version numbers based on the year of release.. It doesnt make any sence... Look at Windows 95, there are like 5+ 'sub versions' which the average tech doesnt realize there is a difference between... Why cant all software vendors use the Linux Kernel numbering scheme?:) Cybie! aka Ralph Bonnell
Ive had this thing up since the late eighties, started out on a commodore 64 with a 1200 baud modem, then eventually moved to a c128, amiga 500, amiga 2000, amiga 4000....:)
At one point i had over 15 lines on it... Arctic Underground BBS was a free system.. I kept it up on user donation and McDonalds paychecks;) The best part was the user picnics! I had picnics for the users around once a month, and usually had over 50 users attend, usually with their whole family... Thats what i really miss, is the community...
Now all we really have is AOL. Thats why i want to write a really cool Web based BBS... I miss that sence of family back when people actually could easily get to know one another online!:) ahh the memories.....
At least this gives me a use for my T1 other than putting up South Florida Geek Storm Cams:)
Getting FreeS/WAN and Firewall-1 shouldnt be to hard... I wasnt aware of the FreeS/WAN project (until now:) , but now i cant want to set it up and test it with Linux! (the coolest advantage of working at a Checkpoint reseller, lots of Nokia based Checkpoint firewall-1 boxes laying around) Ill install S/WAN on some redhat boxes here and test it with checkpoint 4.0 and 4.1... (and hopefully Checkpoint Linux someday soon;) - Cybie! aka Ralph Bonnell
Richard O'Brian and Tom Baker!! WOOHOO!:) I cant wait to see this one! It doesnt matter to me if its cheesy or not... But then again, im a Rocky Horror fan and Tom Baker is my favorite doctor, so my judgement may be tainted somewhat O:)
As I read some of the responses here i would like to point out, we took all of the important stuff out of the house (like our main server with 40+ gigs of mp3s) and have dat backups of everything else, so we are just trying to make light of the situation. Hurricanes are a fact of life in Florida and we understand the risk living on the water... I think it was really cool of Hemos to put it up, thanx:) Now i wish i had more than a 256 Frac-T.....
Almost everything in our house runs linux... (except for the HP-Apollos running HP-UX, the NeXt box, and my Amigas....)
hehe our webcam was very high priority:) im still flipping out that my bedroom is on slashdot:), but anyway, i think it was a cool thing to do... i home my amiga's are alright...
Why wouldnt you use the celeron as a server platform? Personally, i think a dual celeron makes an excellent server! Look at price/performance, you just cant beat that with a PIII or Xeon chip.. Just because a chip is inexpensive, doesnt mean it is not a viable solution for a 'powerful server'...
Its so sad nowdays... people get quad xeons just to share word documents...:)
Perfect server: Dual Celeron - 128 meg dimm - Linux - cheap case - 3com 3c905b - (2) 20 gig ide drives, mirrored..... cheap and VERY functional
I loved it! I was quite suprised that the movie only had a PG-13 rating though.. The movie was clearly full of sexual innuendo/content. (of course I LOVED that;)
My favorite part was Dr. Evil singing his version of 'Just The Two Of Us' , REALLY cool.
I wonder which companies paid for advertising?:) From the 'AOL You Have Mail' Headquarters call in the sports car, Dr. Evil's corperation owning Starbucks coffee, and the clearly shown Virgin superstore.. i was just a little curious...
Quite a lot of cameo appearences also... my suggestion: go see it right now! (unless your a highly religious nut who hates perversion, in that case avoid it at all costs)
Check out PC-Ware... They have all-in-one motherboards that work in linux!:) yay
MB-748MR Specs:

Cost: ~74$ EACH in boxes of 20
Im running RedHat 5.2 on this board right now... In order to use the video in X i had to upgrade to the newest XFree (standard RPM upgrade from redhat's site) The SPDIF feature very nice...
Check out my listings of MP3's at ARCTICNET.NET... (i have a LOT of free time:)
Ive been following the PIOS stuff since they started it and have to say this machine is VERY nice!
Cool modular design, and lots of functionality... Would be a shame if it didnt come out... Ive had a lot of Amiga's in the past and the 3000 Tower (one of dave's machines:) has the best design of all of them
ah, that helped thanx.
apparently you needs everything to be in a helix/distributions/Red_Hat_6/ directory...
note: allmirrors.xml, mirrors.xml, installer-latest-intel do not need to be in that 'local media' path... now i can have funfunfun
Thats exactly what i thought, but i checked and i did have all the .xml files in my leech directory... (i did a mget *) Good idea though...
:)
Does anyone know what files exactly are required to un-grey the next box?
sigh... i was looking forward to installing this :) but i cant get the installer to work

I found this interview VERY informative :)

i think your wrong. :)
south park is most definatly news for nerds!
HAHAHAHA This is totally awesome! I want more! :)
I dont care if people are pissed about this, MORE MORE MORE!! Give this Anonymous Coward a regular spot on slashdot! YES! MORE!!!
i just want to know when RedHat and VA will merge :)
I for one love the fact DOpus is open :) It is definatly the second best utility for AmigaOS, second only to DiskMaster2! ;)
:P
LONG LIVE DiskMaster2!!!!
My opinion has nothing to do with the fact that i memorized the text configuration format for the DiskMaster preferences file
AHAHAHAHAHHA FINALLY a decent worthwhile read from a troll :) right on!
YES, now that would be cool :) I for one would love to browse news that doesnt make it...

Its nice to actually see activity on my amiga 4000 for once :) Puts my T1 to good use :)
:)
Ths coolest thing is the fact it can handle 10 callers at once with 10 megs of ram and 100 megs of hard drive space (OS AND BBS software)
CNet Amiga kicks ass
