Its not really the OS that matters anymore; I think this is true for more ppl. than others...
For developers using Emacs / Vi the tools on all these are about the same.... If you use Eclipse then you are golden no matter where you go!
The main reason to not get away from Windowz then ends up being for most ppl i think the network effect! Fools keep sending documents in Word / Excel / PPT format that does NOT always work on OpenOffice etc... so what do you do, swithc to windows and keep working!
NOTE: If Apple did get off its high horse and release the OS-X to x86 then we could see M$ being forced to port the software cause of legal reasons which could be great for us!
Zeppelins Their airborne capabilities, extensive line of sight, and ability to spot underwater units (as with all flying units) make them an integral part of the defense network. -- wc
we all know that without them a single turtle can wreak havoc to all Juggernaught's!
We have been using Tomcat in production as well for well over a year now. Have had very few problems... much much easier to develop using tomcat as well, WL/WS are nice but a pain to work with..
No sir, i believe what is really funny is how you are able to take a crack at the folk of log4j when you think having a more flexible API is "BLOAT"..... why is that the new buzzword they taught you ? If you are to actually look at the API anyone can see that within about 15 minutes of work you can extend the log4j classes to make it as simple as you need (I did and it works great). THEN if you need the power you use it, and all those categories, NDC, filters and all really show their own..... BLOAT my friend is a matter of opinion!
BUT HEY at least we can just forget 1.4 and use log4j~
and it was silly of us to recommned otherwise because we've been back there setting up the computer on many occasions. <br>
nothing wrong with helping out a damsel in distress..specially IF!
all the porn you've ever downloaded
Just imagine :

well considering its your house, i seriously doubt your MP3's should be your first concern.
AND if so, just leave a copy with a friend as a gift!
slashdot for unbiased research.... surely you jest
on
Opposing Open Source?

· Score: 2
So let me get this right. You are looking for problems with open-source, which you say are not that obvious ? AND you want slashdot to help........ do yourself a favor and disregard 80% of what you read here. Get together with your prof. and come up with a survey that makes some sense, find a few hundred ppl. to get together a mailing list (preferably from your schools alumni) and get the info from them..... do the math and you will see whats what....
mod it down.... shit this is perfect!!!!
My only bone to pick with you is that there are few users/supporters of linux that dont fall into the zealot category....hmmm am i one cause i said this.... damn...
It was a freaking joke... maybe not in the best of tastes...but jeez....also i am using windows 2k right now and cant complain... running within VmWare it has not crashed for a very long time.. I also use win2K at home to play games etc...
and thanks so much in the history lesson about PC's. and here i was thinking that they just won the OS race early leaving OS2 behind.. you almost make M$ role in the evolutons of PC's sound noble... hey i dont mind their OS, i think they do their limited tasks well. But lets not forget that this is also the firm that is responsible for making a joke out of standards. Do you remember JAVA.. hell just look at HTML and what
MS did with that.... they are a company that enjoy's its position in the industry and uses it to try and move ahead everywhere else!
Forbes has this to say about Red Hat..
NEW YORK - Red Hat Software has squeezed out a first-quarter profit distributing a product that, for all intents and purposes, it doesn't own.
So its a lot like Microsoft which has made profits distributing a product that, for all intents and purposes, doesn't work.
Whatever WhitePaper you do find should be taken with a grain of salt. I will not be suprised if some very very "smart" marketing department put out a nice document claiming that their web development technology results in faster development, is more stable, performs better, better scalability, is fault tolerant, pleases the God of webpage etc....
ON a more serious note, I dont see why you dont have jsp/servlets in the list. Lots of cool technology there to help with rapid development. Seems strange to be that you are considering ASP's and not JSP's. Since the arguments against CGI might be correct for certain type of webpages. Check out the jakarta project on JSP's... tomcat is preeetyy awesome and lots of cool stuff available that can make things quiet easy to write. ALSO, IBM AlphaWorks has lots of Beans/etc. to make writing these pages pretty neat..... NOW if there was kick as TableBean we would be talking!
Well you are not talking about religon then. You are talking about the ppl. that follow it! In that case what you are saying is well...
For all religons there exist men that do bad things, this i agree with.
What I dont agree with is your backward conclusion that since a few ppl. took part in slavery, AND they were in fact followers of a religon, than the religon allows it!
Never have I been so completely disgusted by a post on slashdot. And whats worse is that it was moderated to interesting/informative and funny!
So do ppl have nothing with any techincal or informative merit to talk about Redhat anymore. Hey maybe they have won then I guess, given that the highest scoring post on Slashdot about their latest and greatest release has absolutly nothing whatsoever to do with the OS itself. NO, its a dumb freaking post trying to get some cheap amusement on the basis of religon. META_MODERATORS get your act together on this one!
Where my man have you heard of slavery in Islam ? Please go look up a history book to find that long before America decided to free slaves, Prophet Mohammad (Peace be Upon Him) would free any slave that came to his house. The religon of Islam itself forbits slavery completely. If you have heard of such a thing, i fear that it was just more FUD. Dont believe everything you hear, or for that matter a lot of things you see. If you are able to read, why dont you go read about the religon and not just believe any crap someone tells you.
wish i could mod you to a 10... best one-liner of the week!
