Sure! I really believe you dude! And if Citibank goes out of business tomorrow I'm *SURE* you're going to send your credit card payment to them next month, even though then no longer exist, becuase you'll honor your agreement with a non-entity. Me too.
There is one Linux like the guy busting Rodney Dangerfield's balls in "Back to School" only had "One Question" on his final exam.
"One Question.....in one hundred and twenty-eight parts".
Yet somewhere....out there....on Slashdot...right now....right this VERY SECOND....someone from an EU country is typing "Americans are stupid". Next time I see one of these trans-Atlantic pissing-contests in progress I'm going to troll with "Carot Jam".
I knew there was a reason I got up today......
It is tacky, and they should know better, perhaps they haven't seen the photos of workmen furiously scrubbing the butterfly decals off manhole covers and sidewalks in Manhattan?
He said "rulled that it was a vegitibale so schools could meet nutrienal guide lines"
you would argue with someone who obviously KNOWS the supreme court rullings, and knows about nutrienal guide lines? Jeez, I can't have my wages garnisheed.
We used to have those in the US too. Novel idea, you could actually read the display on an bright sunny day, unlike the un-shielded color displays all over nowadays.

Unfortunately, the Feds will also about that time, force the makers to honor the 'drm bit'...that won't allow you to keep the show you record for too long, nor unload it to another medium, nor SKIP the commercials....
That's when my new invention will hit.....the UN-DIGIFIER! It's basically an inside-out camcorder that will come packaged with a hard-copy of the US Constitution and copies of the relavent fair-use laws in your state. A multi-megapixel LCD an inch downstream of a state-of-the-art CCD in a sealed black box with DVI out. Dump the result to MPEG7 format and fast forward/copy/whatever to your heart's content.
Of course, by then the shows will suck so bad you won't want to keep them anyway. As evidence, we're talking about Max Headroom in 2004.......
I've wanted to do this for reasons other than a picture frame, but from the reading I've done, getting the laptop LCD to work with anything other than the video chipset in the laptop (which can't really be removed from the motherboard) has always been the bitch. I'd love to use one of the dozens of "good" LCDs I've got in a stack of busted laptops with something like a mini-itx board, but LCD interface always killed it. Anyone know of any LCD-interface sites out there?
Many GM cars in the late 60's and early 70's had this (my '67 Chevelle comes to mind) flip-down license plate idea. I actually thought it was better than having an ugly hole in side of your car and I've often wondered why they discontinued the practice.
The best gas cap ever was the 69-70 Ford Mustang, it had this giant disc in between the rear brake lights with a chrome horse in it - it didn't even look like a gas cap, but it unscrewed and was tethered to the car by two short cables that kept it in place and out of the way for filling, but an inch or two off the paint.
What makes you think that you would know better? Even if they changed SIM cards as well, it wouldn't help them.
Yes it would. The reason they were listening to the numbers associated with those SIM cards was because they were on a known watchlist.
Just about this specific issue - all modern intelligence agencies now know to recognize people by voice.
Too bad they would know which of 20 million calls to point their "recognizer" at if the terrorists used stolen/found/new SIM cards.
My advice to geeks - stick to the geek issues, and don't try to be experts in electronic intelligence - it makes you look funny.
My advice to those who give advice - RTFA and learn about the bandwidth requirements of indiscriminate monitoring before suggesting something so stupid as they would be recognizable by voice.
Of course, this is a university campus, so by definition the "badly trained ghost" will be the MOST popular as people will be interacting with it two and three times to enjoy the joke, and they'll tell their friends about it as well. Meanwhile the "history of the lawn mowing patterns used in The Quad" ghost will 'self-terminate' a lonely, brief existence with but a wimper.
The price of computers hasn't really changed since 1978. A Top of Line system is around $3000, Middle tier about $1500-$2200, and cheap shit is always available for under $1000. The only thing that changes is what you get for that money.
It just so happens that software and hardware have improved faster than the demands placed on a system by an "average" user have - systems haven't gotten cheaper, they've gotten better faster than you have.
To be perfectly honest, I don't think my father understands some times when a project has to be cancelled. He's too busy flashing his size 12s around the Pentagon to notice what's really being done around here........
You are correct, sorry for the overly-general statement, I meant to illustrate that those industries are shadows of their former selves.
As far as the auto industry goes, after years of having their asses handed to them, they decided that competitive pricing and quality improvements may sell a few more cars, Duh! In most cases, it is still cheaper to build a car half-way around the world, and pay to ship it here, because it is still of higher quality and similar cost to that which is produced domestically. I think you'll find that the foreign manufacturers have simply gotten 'golden goose' type deals to move to certain places in the US.
BMW built a plant here because they got $259,000 PER EMPLOYEE in state funds to do so. Without a sweetheart deal of some sort, it doesn't make sense for most manufacturing industries to be here.
I agree with your final comment, basically the same old story, the top 10% in any field can get a job anywhere at any time, to anyone else, good luck.
Think so? I'm not trying to start an argument, but I think this is a case of "Don't attribute to malice that which can adequately be explained by stupidity". Microsoft probably DID have some general requirement that their ad be placed next to articles specifically containing Linux subject matter, however, the reason for this was probably to target senior IT staff considering using Linux for specific projects. The Kernel article isn't going to be read by this demographic, its going to be read by dedicated linux heads (and those who endeavor to be). The management types will read the first three lines, realize they're reading a 'techie' article, and go off in search of higher-level material....and Microsoft has just wasted a few thousand $$$$ preaching to those least likely to listen!
He's only wrong on a temporary basis. Whining, screaming, etc., could possibly elect someone who will 'do something' about it. Of course, anything that would be done would either be 1)Temporary at best, or 2)Hugely expensive to the US taxpayer, as they are forced to subsidize dozens of failing industries. So yes, we could force all of the companies that are getting rid of $100k/yr programmers for $40k/yr Indian outsourcers, to hire US programmers for $40k/yr with a government subsidy of $60k/yr per programmer. Sounds like something Howard Dean would get behind.......
The "guilty parties" in office aren't the ones who created the outsourcing "problem" by the way. Its been underway for 40 years. Remember, we used to make steel here? We used to make electronics here? Nobody "kicked any guilty parties out of office" because of it then, and they won't now.
Your comments support the AC post, is this what you intended? His point was, they ARE earning it. And yes, it was spoken like a true conservative: "If I earn something, and you do not, you should not be 'entitled' to any of my earnings, nor should I be obligated to share any with you".

I would say "Carriage" with a "G"
Anyone familiar with the "Rerun" character from the "Whats Happening?" TV show knows how Americans say it.

No market for Robots without the "Moe" element? I was always more of a Joe Besser fan myself.....
Not even this joke can bring me down off my high from FINALLY hearing about something that REALLY DID happen in Soviet Russia!

Yeah, me too! I want the millitary to focus more on being Humane, and the Red Cross to focus more on development of Weapons Systems.
Colin Powell has pictures of what could ONLY be a mobile-brine laboratory. Cause enough for me....
Arrrghh!!! You call that an Anchor?
....in a related story, the color Blue today sued Bill Gates for Defamation of Character.
