This gets insightful while my post get's overrated? Seriously, I always assumed it was the other way around and that the people they said were thousands of years old were actually millions of years old.
Maybe that's why we age at all. We could have evolved to reduce the chances of developing cancer with the result of aging. Might explain all those ancient texts that have people thousands of years old.
I know you're here, and will read this if it doesn't get modded to hell.
Thanks, John. Thanks for Castle Wolfenstien which I had to sneak onto the computer without my parents noticing. Thanks for the Dooms which wasted too much of my time (but still, not enough). Thanks for Quake II that destroyed some of my University grades. And especially thanks for the cool Quake 3 tin that the Linux version came in.
How seriously does the Amsterdam legal system treat violations like this? Without sounding completely ignorant I wonder because Amsterdam does have several other laws in place that are bent daily, openly in public.
Perhaps ignoring court orders is a common part of legal negotiations? I'm sure there are more than enough Amsterdam-based Slashdot readers that know.
And please forgive me if this is at all stupid - respond with comments, not moderation.
My bookshelf stereo, the JVC SD-5, can't play these CDs either. It isn't that old either since I bought it new less than a year ago. A newer version has come out, the SD-55, that can read CDRW disks that may have solved the problem with the copy-protected CDs. However I can't help but wonder how many other modern regular CD player's can't use these copy protected CDs.
It seems I have no choice but to burn CDs of mp3s.
Since Crusoe can have different instructions sets how low level do these instructions need to be? Is it possible that it could be made to use a high level language's byte code?
I'm not just thinking Java either - running Python or Perl apps on a dedicated CPU would be very cool. Is it possible at all?
Yay! Secret of Mana in the Car!

Really, isn't the Gameboy Advance as powerful as a Super Nintendo? I'm happy to see some great SNES games coming to Gameboy Advance, like Breath of Fire and Mario Cart.
But the continued akwardness between Nintendo and Square will probably keep classics like Final Fantasy II & III and Secret of Mana from the Gameboy Advance. What a pitty!
Maybe this project is just the thing to take these great games on the road.
There is work being done to let Python be another Cocoa language by enabling python to access Objective-C objects. This is a great idea as it would let Cocoa apps be built and prototyped very fast.
Even if you don't favor making your releases in Python few people disagee that Python is great for rapid prototyping.
If you are interested in helping out visit the sourceforge project where work is just beginning on a rewrite to take advantage of Python 2.2's new class/type system.
What do you mean by, "there are no DVD-Rs available"? Surely you don't mean drives that are only DVD-R since you state that they, "can also burn DVD-RWs". Do you mean
DVD-R Media? Because that is clearly available.
As an artist, now I have to go out of my way to say, "You can copy this however you like"? Alright, that's fine with me. I just wanna sell enough of my CDs to cover costs (or just mp3.comize them). I'll make my money doing performances - which is also much more fulfilling.
Oh yeah, and the RIAA sucks. I'm not a member of any musicians unions either - not since SOCAN had all blank media including CDRs taxed here in Canada.
I've got cable through Shaw@Home here in Canada. We've been told that we are ok but I guess I'm about to find out the hard way. I mean with 45% about to go down it's hard for me to assume that I'm safe. Especially here in Canada - aren't we the last to be helped out with this stuff?
Deleting a file is something that Apple gave them rights to do when they placed a trashcan on their desktop.
Sorry, no. I may give you a gun but that doesn't give you the right to shoot me.
Especially since for many unscrupulous businesses, ratings in search engines directly translate to dollars.
Taco you moron have a little faith. This is google we're talking about. Name one feature they've screwed up that badly. If it can't be done so that companies can't take advantage of it realise that it won't be done at all.
And taco, you ignorant bastard, you'd think that after you created a user-ranked web site companies can't take advantage of you would realise that anyone can do it.
Groups such as the MPAA and RIAA are making it a scary time for people invovled with technology. Obviously many decisions made now will have great effects on the future, very possibly in bad ways. From your experiences what do you think is the best way to stop the threat from these organizations?
Your OS has a lot to do with what kind of battery life you'll get. Especially when it comes to things like slowing the hard drive, dimming the screen etc that can save you a ton of battery usage but totally rely on energy-conserving system software.
I'm not confident that any of the OSes you mention would perform at a level you'd need to see your battery lasting a week between charges.
I'm just about to take a trip to Japan with an iBook w/ airport card.
Anyone have information about wireless networks in japan? With such a high population density I would think that there would be many wireless networks, especially in downtown Tokyo and such.
When is the Harry Potter DVD coming out? That might have some cool extra footage. I heard that there was more than an hour of extra film.
But like LOTR it might be wisest to wait for the boxed set.

Well sure, AOL has this little tiny hole. But atleast it isn't as bad as that Passport thing that MSN refuses to fix.
Looks like January 7th is shaping up to be a great day. Apple's dropping hype bombs about the Jan 7 Macworld keynote, and now this.
Spectacular.
Thanks bro, you and your cronies rock.

For Sports they could play Quake 3 tournament demos. With commentary and replays. I'd watch every week!
And they could have a reality-style tv show of Quake 3 Team Arena where the loosing team has to vote a member off!

Yes work is still being done. Of course like many open source projects it progresses as participants have spare time to work on it.
Many of the people involved were also NeXT users - the current verion still uses old NeXT libraries.

These are just the sort of problems that the proprietary connections AOL uses don't have. We all see it coming - soon we'll all be using AOL.
I think my attempt at being funny was a success! Ahahahaha! What do you think of THAT?
Solamia is a stupid country! So there!
Anyways. Texas sure is big.
What kind of country is Solamia? I don't feel bad for any country smaller than Texas.
(that's supposed to be funny, but I'm in a bad mood so take it as you will)
