USB.... you mean the bus inspired by Atari's SIO bus (400/800/XL/XE) for easy connection of a wide variety of peripherals from external storage to printers and modems? It worked well. Bigger connector with a few more pins but still pretty awesome. PBI was pretty advanced too.
If the PC wasn't cloned (IBM wasn't happy about this BTW) and adopted by businesses due to dBase II and a few other killer business apps ported from CP/M-land..... it would be long dead.

The Atari ST was no slouch either and more of a boring architecture that was more palatable to business users. I actually saw several businesses such as limo companies using them in the late 80's w/ mono hi-rez screens. They also didn't have the obnoxious flickering.
The Amiga was more like an Atari 800XL on steroids. Very cool machine but I never saw businesses buy them for mundane tasks like desktop publishing or word processing. On the other hand, Atari had a MegaST package and a laser printer that was low cost and high quality.
The ST should have been an IBM PC killer and probably could have been had they not stagnated and kept up the pace with rapid PC development.

Before you get too far.... the early iterations of the PowerVR chipset were around in that period too. I first played Quake 2 with hardware acceleration using a card with an NEC PowerVR 2. It wasn't as fast as the voodoo2 I replaced it with but it was still pretty cool.
ATI wasn't sitting still either but the Voodoo2 was whooping their ass performance wise. They had real OpenGL support though.
OpenGL was accelerated on many UNIX workstations by that point in time as well. SGI being the coolest of the bunch.

I'm glad they are giving tablets another go. I just recently got a Nook HD+ and it's actually a fairly impressive tablet, especially at that price point. The 1920x1280 LCD is really nice to look at and it's got a reasonable CPU.
I reflashed mine with CyanogenMod 10.1 but I know a few others who are quite happy with the stock firmware. Once they finally added the play store and such the stock firmware sucks a lot less. I'd buy another one.... I'm actually thinking of buying a few Nook HD's for the kids.

The Atari ST was no slouch either and more of a boring architecture that was more palatable to business users. I actually saw several businesses such as limo companies using them in the late 80's w/ mono hi-rez screens. They also didn't have the obnoxious flickering.
The Amiga was more like an Atari 800XL on steroids. Very cool machine but I never saw businesses buy them for mundane tasks like desktop publishing or word processing. On the other hand, Atari had a MegaST package and a laser printer that was low cost and high quality.
The ST should have been an IBM PC killer and probably could have been had they not stagnated and kept up the pace with rapid PC development.

Before you get too far.... the early iterations of the PowerVR chipset were around in that period too. I first played Quake 2 with hardware acceleration using a card with an NEC PowerVR 2. It wasn't as fast as the voodoo2 I replaced it with but it was still pretty cool.
ATI wasn't sitting still either but the Voodoo2 was whooping their ass performance wise. They had real OpenGL support though.
OpenGL was accelerated on many UNIX workstations by that point in time as well. SGI being the coolest of the bunch.

Yes, my family and I value human life. We just enjoy taking fake ones in video games to relieve some stress. Who knows, this may have saved some genuine lives that aren't a bunch of polygons and code. And yes.... I taught my kids how to shoot and it had nothing to do with hunting or "sport". I must be raising baby-killing assassins, right? No. I teach my kids to work hard, learn everything they can, respect others and their cultures, respect the world, never back down from your principles/beliefs and most importantly..... question any authority that isn't mine.

I'd like to point out that the ESRB is perfectly fine with you raising your kids. I'd argue that they encourage you to raise your kids by engaging with you in a dialogue over the contents in a game as you purchase it.

And whether my kid buys the game, pirates it, borrows it from a friend or plays it at their house.... it doesn't really matter. He'll see it whether I like it or not.
Generally my kids aren't walking around with $50-$100 in their pocket anyway. Kids that do either have jobs (kudos!) or they are spoiled brats. The ones with jobs should be free to purchase whatever game they want and as far as the spoiled brats go, seeing them remove each other from the gene pool would not offend me in the slightest.

I'm glad they are giving tablets another go. I just recently got a Nook HD+ and it's actually a fairly impressive tablet, especially at that price point. The 1920x1280 LCD is really nice to look at and it's got a reasonable CPU.
I reflashed mine with CyanogenMod 10.1 but I know a few others who are quite happy with the stock firmware. Once they finally added the play store and such the stock firmware sucks a lot less. I'd buy another one.... I'm actually thinking of buying a few Nook HD's for the kids.
As long as they stay on the current track of trying to make real tablets out of them instead of eReaders on steroids, I'm happy.
