Wow. Seems like a tough system to test and debug at present. I suppose they do a lot of unit testing and wait for the hardware to catch up before systems integration.
You know, it's funny. I never used it when I had to use the function keys, but now that I have it mapped to a hot corner (the upper left), I use it all the time. Just slam the mouse up there, see all the open windows, choose one, and I'm there. Hot-cornering it made all the "usability" difference for me. Nice.
Which rights would you like to exercise after stripping the DRM? First sale principles do not allow for the full copying of material, nor is this covered in fair use clauses as ruled upon by courts so far. A musician playing out on the street is performing a "broadcast", and no one would think that they would have to be charged for listening in a public place.
For me, the value is in convenience. I'm often in front of the computer all day, so when the itch strikes, I can click over to the iTMS and download what I want, and it automatically appears in my Library and iPod. Nice. I don't have to go to the store, don't have to rip the CD. Since the iPod and iTunes are basically the only ways I listen to music any more, the online store is a blessing. I also never encounter the limits imposed by the DRM.
The third option is to realize that because you are choosing to use an operating system that is not supported by iTunes, you are not entitled to break the rules in the licensing (not purchasing) agreement.
And cracking the authentication scheme is considered... good? I love iTunes and the iTMS. If Apple pulls out of the market because it tires of people breaking their rules out of a overblown sense of entitlement, we'll all be worse off.
You did not purchase the song. Read the agreement. You purchase the right to listen to the song subject to the conditions outlined in the agreement. If the agreement is not to your liking, do not purchase the song.
Is reference counting really that bad? I use it all the time with a special smart pointer class, and I can't convince myself that it costs very much. Granted, the number of objects I create is generally low, but is it really a big deal to increment an integer, or provide 4 bytes of extra storage per pointer for the count? I suppose I can imagine cases of millions of object pointers to count, but it seems that it was dismissed a little too off-handedly. It's a really simple solution that may be applied to a wide variety of apps.
A little OT --- sailing

Running for Geeks

Ok, a little off-topic, but I took sailing lessons last summer and have fallen in love with the sport. I now have a little Laser 2 boat to race in local races, and have found that there are good boat clubs and sailing associations close to most areas (and not necessarily yacht clubs costing big $ to join). It is easy to apply your geeky tendencies to sailing optimizations and racing strategies. I'd highly recommend getting a lesson or two to see if it works for you. At least you'd get out in the sunshine and water for a few days. Also good for people with knee problems, like me.
Using my keyboard about 2000 hours per year, I've come to realize the difference between a really good one and a really cheap one. I used a PFU Happy Hacking mini keyboard for 5 years with no problems until it finally started to give out last year. I tried some cheaper brands when I switched from Linux to OS X since PFU didn't make a board with USB plugs. I noticed a couple months ago that there are now mac-compatible Happy Hacking keyboards with extra USB plugs, so I got one immediately. No regrets. This one reviewed here is beautiful.
I wonder how clearly we'll be able to resolve the goatsce guy from large distances, of course correcting for atmospheric turbulence and the curvature of the Earth.
Appropriate diligence is a good thing, but I would only point out that calling someone an idiot for espousing a viewpoint you misinterpreted to be the *opposite* of the one intended will not win you or your stance much respect.
Sort of a hot-button issue with you? It seems clear from context that he means the gun from which the fatal
bullet was fired, as shown by forensic evidence. Nowhere do I see any argument for blaming the object for the crime. In fact, he argues quite the opposite, that the failure to match a person to a weapon used in a crime is a major difficulty in establishing the case.
Settle down and scan material for semantic content and not just pattern-matching.
Oh, Lord. I'm a purist as well as someone who loves the films. Please, please don't do this. It's like the "dinosaur expert" sitting behind me during Jurassic Park explaining out loud to no one in particular all about each species and how the movie wasn't "realistic". Believe me, the ignorant masses don't care, and you won't make them care.
Basically when Jackson made this movie he entered into a sacred covenant with the millions of people who know and love Tolken.
No, his true covenant was with his employer, New Line, who took an incredible gamble on even making the films in the first place. The commercial success of the films was by no means guaranteed. His choices to strike a balance between commercial and critic quality, as well as trying to throw a bone to all the hard-core fans (of which he is one) are a complete success.
These changes create what I will call a resonance cascade (Halflife.) Basically once you've shit in your own well water your fucked. Changes made in the middle with no regard for the end cause people who can reduce the whole to a singularity great pain. If you are dumbass and cannot conceive of the whole then your fine, you remain happily awed by the pretty colors, if on the hand you can see the whole in each part then those mistakes break the whole.
Mining nonsense phrases from video games is bound to be trouble. What makes you think that there is no regard for the end? Is the redemption of Faramir not possible in the 3rd film? Beware of lousy pop-philosophy. The books are one kind of "whole". The movies are another. Failure to see them as separate entities leads to calling differences in path between the two as "mistakes". Let's see the whole film (all 3, including EEs) before arguing in certainty about something that doesn't even exist yet.
Everyone who has read and love the Lord of the Rings knows this, it hurts to interrupt the flow, even to put the book down because it has the Tao. By dropping boulders of shit in the flow Jackson created eddies that disrupt the harmony the Tolken created.
Tao. You keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means. PJ has simply created a new river. You may sail whichever one you wish. Understanding both may help you realize that they both have the same source and destination, but are not intended to be identical.
But there is another possibility. PJ can take out Sharkey and still not close with a happy ending.
SPOILER
It is well-known that the movie ends with a long sad scene at the Grey Havens. It is here that we will probably get the idea that war changes all.
Chimps already are partially evolved, when compared to the last common ancestor of themselves and us.
Wow. Seems like a tough system to test and debug at present. I suppose they do a lot of unit testing and wait for the hardware to catch up before systems integration.
Yes, I've got both set up, but for some reason I find myself using the hot corner more than the middle button. Better "flow", I guess.
Dear Apple, PLEASE STOP INNOVATING! Thanx, John Q. Public.

Certainly you can't sell the copies, but it is also against the current interpretation of the spirit of the law to copy material in its entirety.

Ah. You're right, I didn't know what I was talking about. Thanks.
Um, yes please?

You know, it is possible to attract attention with well-thought-out opinions. Knee-jerk, extreme, hyperbolic outbursts are for the immature.

Easy. Denethor has one. Pippen and Aragorn can monkey around with it there.
