The REAL reason pinballs died was the maintenance those things required, compared to video games on PCBs. I knew several arcade operators when I was a kid and they all frowned at new machines arriving at the bar. It took a long time to change out light bulbs, fix jammed balls, clean, etc. Meanwhile, video games don't require anything, just plug and play.
Add to that the fact that assholes like myself refuse to play on crap machines, and these poor souls have a much harder job.
I believe the silverballs will become more and more a collector's item for people who lived those early days. Like many already said here, kids nowadays just dont see the fun of it.
Oh yeah, my local arcade only has Mars Attack, John Mnemonic, Pinball Revenge (or whatever...), and Addams Family, and I still enjoy those...
You may not like it, thse IM pop-ps may be annoying, but it beats answering the phone. At least with IM, I can interact with the person when I feel like it and/or have time. With the stupid phone, it's the other way around.
Yes, I believe the telephone is productivity's worst enemy.
The book business is very, very lucrative, and don't even get started on school books. Find a weird subject on wikipedia (use the "random" feature), then look it up on Amazon. Chances are there's a book about it, regardless of how irrelevant, simple, or plain stupid the subject is.
Like the other fellow wrote, I've seen books about MySpace, orkut, and Roulette strategy (whatever that is).
"We don't know yet if these results will be transferable to humans, so our next step will be to study the use of hydrogen sulfide in larger mammals."
I never understood why scientists always assume that results obtained from tests with animals will automatically work for humans too. Cut this bullshit already!!
Our prisons are pretty full, and death row is pretty long, you know. I'm sure the victims' relatives wouldn't mind...
Yahoo had that same type of filter way back when. Then Google came along and reinvented search algorythms. And advertisers learned how to fool the search engines. Now we want to put humans back into the equation.
But with the vast amount of data available today on the net, and the millions of search requests every second, who's going to pay an army of web crawlers to index search results??
There's no way in hell Google et al. will reach into their pockets to get this service going.
Working for IBM is the dream/objective of 9 out of 10 IT/IS grads. Then they finally get a job (or at least an offer) there, find out it's shit, then move on.
I got a job offer there once, but the salary was a freaking joke. I talked to other peolpe and they've experiened the same. I've since removed my resume from their the job site.
And here was I holding my breath, hoping that almighty Google and its wads of cash would be brave enough to try and one up the Iphone's superb UI... oh well.
Yeah, I noticed a couple days ago that my Gmail interface changed a bit. After RTFA'ing I confirmed that I indeed have the new version, but calling it Gmail 2.0 is just plain hype!!

Wrong, wrong, wrong. Windows was actually responsible for taking the PC into mainstream use by providing an unified achitecture on which software could run. We already have millions of different hardware combinations/configurations to get our software to work with. It would be a complete developer's nightmare to also have hundreds of operating systems!! At least with Windows, you can count on APIs to partly solve the hardware problem.
Until downloadable music isn't compressed, or they are able to compress without ANY loss, there will still be a need for CD's. I think the under 25 crowd doesn't care that much, you wouldn't notice the difference on an Ipod, but on a nice home system you do.
This is from an audiophile's standpoint. Consdering the average person can't tell when one of their stereo speakers has gone south, I hardly see compression as a deterrant to CD's demise.
Things like DVD Audio and SACD have flopped for a reason...
School grades mean shit. How does that translate into $$$? And don't give me that "better grades -> better job -> more $$$" crap. Just look at the NBA.

No, because that one is user-replaceable...

I think Google Apps main appeal is the fact they're online, can be accessed anywhere, etc. Feature-wise they're clearly inferior to MS Office.
Without the online component (or "offline feature") it'll just be another freeware piece of crap.

My guess?? It starts with Ad...
I know we don't do that here, but has anyone tried installing SP1 on a pirated copy of 32-bit Vista Ultimate.
And how do you plan to foster scientific innovation if you remove the patent system??

Simple. Work overtime w/o pay today, or find another job tomorrow... tough decision, eh??
If I can't buy it yet, then it doesn't exist yet.
on P2P networks... oh wait...

2007 over. Insert coin(s) to continue.
To me, it's not much different than a cell phone.
1. Phone rings
2. See caller ID.
3. IF callID == 'BOSS' HIT silent
4. ???
5. More leisure/beer time... profit!

In Soviet Russia, Aug. 38 awaits you.
MEGATRON???????
You're fired :-(

Did you not have to upgrade your hardware to run XP back in 2001?

Cool, now I don't even need to waste my energy lifting my heavy fingers. So much effort...
