I'd beg to differ. While MUDs have a longer history, that doesn't necessarily mean that they're any better of a medium. As a former MUDder, I've seen alot of shit. I've played heavily on numerous MUDs, and to be honest, while some promote a healthy RP atmosphere, they're also riddled with abuse by the imms/imps. I say this as a former imm for a fairly established MUD (atleast well ranks on TMC). The problem is more so that the devs don't have a background in pen and paper roleplaying and other fantasy. If they'd read a bit of good old fantasy and play D&D or the like once a week or somesuch, they'd grow to not only appreciate the need for rp, but also realize it's importance to furthering substories (even pehaps ones created by players). RP is an integral part of MMORPGs that is often over looked, and if the devs had a true grasp and enjoymenty of it, then Rp would be more easily carried out (through added emotes and the like) as well as rewarded (some sort of semi-GM type personel to take up the task or something, granted it'd be a small measure because of human resources, but they could run rp quests or something of the like). All in all, it falls to the devs to facilitate the players, make it easier for the greenest "newb" to join in, but also provide the environment that the most seasoned RP'ers require in order for their "art" to flourish.
I'd not blame the devs completely, but they can make a start. If they don't care enough to make things easier, then RP will die in MMORPGs and stick to the easier environs of MUDs and pen and paper.
Just my 2 cents.
...there is no right to privacy. It's been implied, but if I'm not mistaken several supreme court descisions have concured that no right to privacy exists in the constitution/bill of rights.
It's a cool concept and a shame it's shutting down. It was one of the mmorpgs I wanted to play when I finally got a chance to play. It looked alot cooler than many of the others.
Could you give a few examples please? I may have been mistaken. If so, they could make added use of it, if not this is the perfect opritunity for it's use.
For a game like this, the esrb could finally stop pussy-footing around and finally make use of their Adults Only game designation. Hell, if it gets blamed for something kids did, then finally the industry can point to the rating and not be as responsible in the eyes of the public and the public will come to realize it is their own actions, not theactions of developers that lead to bad, stupid things happening. Then again, I may give people too much credit.
It's a good point, and because of this, no one will feel safe... which will actually negate the whole goal of the program because no one will act as dastardly as possible, therefore not giving the government the data they so desperately need.
Democratic, not as in the Democratic party in the United States, but as in the political theroy of Democracy. Democratic in this sense being of, or relating to the theroies of Democracy.
Not too much foiling here. I mean, can it honestly be comfortable to sit in one's excrement for any legnth of time? Hopefully even if the moron, kid rather, were to use such... I'd hope he'd have the decency, sense of disgust, or the ovewhelming stench to help convince him getting up to change said diaper would be a good idea.
...a standard politician tactic. WHy let the public, that knows less than him about it, know what he knows ? It'd only make them think he's a tool like informed people do. Perhaps he could do some good for us and champion the cause of getting games to not suck, that I'd like to see. Or perhaps if he were to attempt to force such a game into the unused (as far as I know) Adults Only category, or even ig he were to attempt to enforce better regulations on the distribution of the games. With the average age of gamers at 27 now (I believe), we should not have a decent title denied to us because it is being bought by kids. Same thing goes for cigarettes, kids aren't supposed to buy them (I forget the exact standard for sales of mature games because it doesn't affect me) but kids still smoke. Granted, both products are marketed, or have been marketed, twoards kids, that doesn't mean however that these products should be unable to be purchased by adults.
I can die for my country, but I can't take my rage out in a semi-constructive, or at the very least a non-destructive, manner. We all, for the most part, have an ability to diferenciate between reality and the fantasy a game will present. I know just as well as anyone else that while it's fun to blow someone's head off in a game, it's not acceptable in reality and it is not eactly something I plan to persue. Their are consequences in real life that the Senator forgets about. If the game were so evil, then we'd have alot more GTA styled crime.
Hrm. Perhaps we should ask all the artists? I garuntee all the ones that aren't on TRL every damned day of the week would like this idea if they weren't bound by a contract they were shafted by when they were young and naieve. It all comes back to the fact that the RIAA and the so called pimps are screwing not only the consumer, but also the artists.
Let's hope this digital age can lead to the fall of these slave driving giants.
The beauty of P2P (or what the beauty should be... stupid RIAA and indutry labels for not catching on) is that it provides a capitalistic option to going through the labels for music. The labels need to realize that by charging so much for such a crappy album with maybe, if you're lucky, a handful of good songs is counter productive and causing the whole problem to begin with. If not for absurd prices, I know I myself would buy more actual physical music instead of stealing the absurd ammount that I do. I consider myself a generally moral person and if the labels want me to buy their product, they have to make it affordable for me, and the rest of poor college-ish America that they so desperately target yet so thoroughly exclude from participation through absurdly inflated prices, then they need to cath on and lower prices.
Hey RIAA and industry labels: Welcome to America and capitalism. Sure suks that we're now the ones screw you, huh?

Yea, but think of the overtime...
I'd probally feel cooler while saying the name if I could actually say it. Oh well, trash rolling is fun.
Kerry's gonna win 28-14?
If so, I'm joining the rebel alliance.
Seems this technology shares a fatal weaknes the geek does... the woman.
Most interesting. Anyone got a link?
It may not be new, or creative, but they sure know how to make it good. That's the thing they do, make someone else's idea damned good.
My son, have faith and question not!
supprised to learn that there is a Christian Game Developers orginization? Sometimes I think I'm the only one that got the context of the post.

The game will probally not accept that as a valid controler.

Home from mars? And all along I thought we were exploring a way to make a new penal colony and aleviate the crowding of prisions down here...

Sounds like a dare to me. A Slashdoter race for it anyone?

You steal one, I think. Though, if we follow Machiavellian (sp?) conventions, the ends justifies the means, so all's peachy keen.
