Matters on how old the house is. For awhile, I'd guess mid 60s, many were pre-wired for telephone jacks everywhere. Basically loops of telephone wire in every room wall, you just go in through the drywall and can nab it for a telephone jack anywhere. Of course you also have a huge antenna in your home. Dialup speeds may break 9.6 if you're lucky.
Also you can burn insulation off far easier than stripping it off. Load up a version of Burning Down the House on the ipod and play with matches - from how much copper is left you can tell how the house was wired.
Even more fun buy some gold and silver coins with legal tender values on them. Give those as gifts. They can claim the face value of the coins.
A person paying employees this way was charged with 161 counts of federal charges and a jury found him innocent of them all. Of course the FBI raided his business with SWAT and months of trials. But I think this is the funniest thing I've heard dealing with feds in awhile.
13 grand worth of coins is a lot of precious metal!
The local catholic church used to publish the amount everyone gave in the weekly newsletter. Nothing like a little community shame to entice someone to give more. Gotta love a religious experience that includes pre-made envelopes for giving money. No idea if they still do this practice.
For the typical small business you need quickbooks for linux, sure there are OO apps but quickbooks is a default standard. People know how to print invoices, accept payments, write checks, etc with Quickbooks. Most accountants will accept a quickbook file without blinking an eye. If wine could get that working it'd be great start to linux moving more into the small biz market.
That's perfectly understandable if you use the Obama's administration's reasoning on why Bush era torture shouldn't be prosecuted. "This is not a time for retribution. It's a time for reflection. It's not a time to use our energy and our time in looking back and in a sense of anger and retribution.'"
Gotta love how a business class line from many telcos give you 8 IPs. I used to be in the field often working at various clients and it was very rare to see even 2 of those actually used.
I used to feel guilty using 4 IPs to have real IPs routed via openVPN back through my office. Then I got over that as I realized even a few Cs of junk wouldn't compare to the crap that's being allocated already.
What, not a single truther talking about how it was actually the controlled demolitions that brought them down? It's a slow day when I can't get my conspiracy theory fix on/.
The G20 was talking about dumping the dollar, I see the name of this new global currency is the iPod. The money is going to be multi colored bright with the words 'In Steve we trust' emblazoned on it.
I agree also - I was looking forward to a Kindle as my next gadget purchase. I'm actually rather tired of physical books lately. For some reason hardcovers are not a standardized height meaning bookcases end up with a lot of wasted space. Why are they all over the place? I go on reading binges when time and work allow and it's way too easy to have a pile of books but no two are the same. Storage is a pain! I'd rather just have a good electronic reader.
I can only hope the success of the Kindle and the projects like Openmoko means an open source type will come along.
Why get so upset, what's 13 trillion between friends? Really it's only $42,105 for every man, woman and child - I'm sure the bankers that gamed the system and broke it the first time have learned their lesson and will do better this time around.
How is just having a website address to a child porn site illegal, if you didn't even visit the link? I wonder how any blacklisting filtering software would be legal in Germany if it filters out illegal content sites.
Bring back the '96 telco reform act which helped quite a bit in leveling the playing field with the monopolies of phone companies. It forced the ILECs to allow interconnections with small upstart phone companies. It wasn't perfect - it included things like the Communications Decency Act within it - but it opened the way for many of the thousands of ISPs to be able to offer service.
Bush and Powell's kid running the FCC did away with essentially all of the changes. Since then all the baby bells are bigger and stronger than Ma bell ever used to be. Many CLECs are gone, the non-monopoly ISPs are almost all gone. The monopolies are stronger than ever.
Or even simpler, just demand that previous agreements made with the telco companies would be met by the telcos. We'd already have huge patches of fiber to the home if the telcos did that.
Don't forget about the gerrymandering of districts to keep elected officials in power. That's beyond inane also. But this all leads to common sense in politics and we can be that is not going to happen.
Lord of Light would be a great movie. Amber could be a really good miniseries if done right - not a sci fi/scyfy/whatever , but a HBO Deadwood or Rome funded project.
The only book I've heard being worked on for a movie that interests me lately is Rama. Although how bad they'll screw that up I'm not sure.
It's still used, it's part of what firefox so great.
Why the name "libpr0n"?
The main goal of the library is to render pornographic images in an efficient way. Plus, the name "imglib2" is boring.

Having done some time in home repair I can only agree with The Onion, It's not as glamorous as the porn movies make it out to be. Different industry but house calls are house calls.

No, they used Seal Snipers.
Don't worry, Stargate Lost in Space is coming soon.
If you go to another state or country would they be operating outside their jurisdiction without authorization?
I must have watched too much of the Buffyverse - when I see this name I think of the evil corporation in Angel - Wolfram & Hart.
I can see it now, for the price of your soul you can always find the correct answer to your searches.

Kidnappers should not be jailed...

And if you stole 13 trillion dollars we'd just call you a banker.

Wasn't that a plot of Millenium - vaccinate your small group, kill off the rest? I don't remember much of that show, other than it was no Xfiles.

The US National Geospace data files have a variety of information for basically anywhere in the world. It includes some of the info you're after.
Oh so you admit that you're a Pinko. Great, another commie!

If I post a link to Nuclear weapons am I going to be charged with being a terrorist? Oh wait, I voted for Ron Paul in the primaries, I probably already am somewhere.

This is the second /. article this week to mention Organlegging. It always makes my day when Sci Fi stories have a chance of coming true.
