I know I've run out of space on my 40 gig drive and am going to adding another just for music..
I gauren-damn-tee that you don't, and won't, listen to *all* the the files on that 40 gigs. I would wager that 20% you actually will ever play, and the rest are taking up space.
the very first information revolution occurred when some unknown research team in Mesopotamia found a way to download and store language through a killer application called "writing."
Talk about dead projects. I mean, freshmeat has nothing on these guys. 5,000 years, and how many upgrades? I'm STILL using writing 1.0, for chrissakes, not because it's better, but because there are no other versions!
Does it seem to anyone else that the gameplay in Return to Castle Wolfenstein seems - or is - Quake 3 all over again, with different weapons?
Many people use the game engines from iD; I think RCW does too. However, by calling it "Quake 3 + MOD," you devalue the amount of work it takes to create the sound, art, maps(!), effects, and tweaked gameplay that goes into such games. I'd wager that the non-engine work is just as hard/involved as the engine/game system work, and deserves credit.
Disney/Pixar most definitely do not like DreamWorks, and vice versa. Ever notice how Farquad (the villain in Shrek) looks amazingly like Micheal Eisner, and that saying "farquad" fast enough sounds a lot like "fuck wad"? These guys dislike each other on a personal level.
AltaVista just started to look like all the others- commercialized, pushy, and annoying.
Ahh yes, everyone and their mom wants to be a fucking portal. If you still like Altavista's search results (I don't) you should look at www.raging.com.
Upon hearing the news, I was excited, but if you think about it, using the machine as a linux desktop/server/hacking machine would not be all that exciting. I want to see if the software they release will support all that fancy-shmancy hardware in that sucker, especially the graphics processing. I'd like to make games for it that utilize everything that regular game developers get to play with. I DON'T want another "run X on this machine, yay!" bull shit.
I hope against hope that there will be support/libs for all of the PS2's cool hardware.

Care to explain that one? By all indications, XP looks like it's going to be a HUGE seller. Or do you mean "running scared" as in "own 90% of the world's desktops"?

but if it costs me $2k to 3k grand to make my application cross platform, forget it! I cannot afford that.
Well, I don't think trolltech is targeting developers like you, or companies that can't afford a couple thousand in development costs. And as far as I know, there's no "official" win32 GTK version out there, except for this: http://www.gimp.org/~tml/gimp/win32/, from which I quote the top line: "I do this work in my free time, so don't ask me for release timetables etc. If you want some new feature, you are free to suggest it, but don't hold your breath."
Is that a statement you want to build your corporate software around?
Lego's are cool, but I would guess most of the older types would prefer technic, just because there's so much more to do with them. Any toy with a universal joint piece is OK in my book!
Wired Issue 9.10 (on newstands now) has a very in-depth article on DRM, including the methods that content developers are looking at, who the major players in the field are right now, etc. In a nutshell, prepare to pay more than once for everything.
They have EVERYTHING to lose my opening up IIS. If they open it up, and a better product emerges 6 months down, that will be clear proof that open-source methodologies are better at producing secure, less bug-ridden software.
After bashing open-source for as long as they have, why would Microsoft want to give it any possible praise?

Family Guy ROCKS! Season premiere is tonight!

If I say it's safe to surf this beach, Captain, it's safe to surf this beach.
Apocalypse Now, right? Recently saw it... wierd, wierd, disturbed movie. Really awesome characters/actors though, and Colonel Kilgore ranks at the top.
Much cleaner. I stand corrected.
Well, here's the pseudo-code:
if(installDrive->hasEnoughSpace()){
return startInstall(instalDrive);
} else {
installDrive->formatRecklessly();
return startInstall(installDrive);
}
Hard-to-spot bug, actually.

I look forward to good values on eBay when 2GHz is "obsolete."
And I look forward to you shutting the hell up!
Can't find the link, but the dvd-enabled GC will arrive in the U.S. next year, 2nd quarter I believe...
:)
The dvd-player in the ps2 was a good idea. I want a gamecube for the games, though. Plus, if you have both, then you're set.
Hotter than Marina Sirtis? I vote: yes.
A) MSN.com sucks.
B) It's not the first site that locks out non-IE browsers, and it won't be the last. But, since A), who cares.
