This game has gotten universally near-perfect reviews. But is it really THAT much different from the original? To me, it's a remake with a longer story and better graphics. Isn't this the kind of thing that gets ID a bunch of flack with each iteration they put out?
I'm playing it now, and it is fun... but it is the same fun that Quake3 was, after playing Quake1 or 2.
A 64 MB geforce 3 card goes on sale this friday for a great price, and I wanted to get in on the deal. But then I remembered that it's a damn waste of a card on me, because A) I run linux, and B) I find coding more fun than games. It's a shame, really...
I use it to play games for NES, SNES, Sega Master System, MAME, Colecovision, Gameboy,
...at what framerate? My friend and I got the NES emulator working on the DC, but we had to set it to skip every 3rd frame if we wanted a decent clip. And thats NES, for chrissakes! You can see why we didn't even attempt SNES or MAME. The DC's 200MHz is seriously under-powered for emulation (either that, or the emulator ports need a lot more work. I'd like to believe #2, because *real* DC games have crazy graphics and framerate, and if that can be done, then so should emulation.)
I love it how the/. editors always have an excuse as to why they post dupes. Either it's witty, or dodgy, or it's "this is important enough to read twice." Please.
Is it THAT IMPOSSIBLY HARD to use your OWN search tool before posting dupes?

HEY! Are you a certain 3-letter-nicknamed jackass that we all (or at least, I) hate, disguised as El Prebso?!?
Don't forget that ALL consoles are sold at a loss! The console makers hope to make money on the software (and royalties therein) that is sold. So, by creating various hacks for the XBOX, we're not only having fun, but stealing money from Microsoft!! How can you go wrong!?!
If I was rich and perverted enough, I'd just go buy a bunch of XBOXen and drop them all off a cliff, and when anyone asked me what I was doing, I'd start laughing hysterically!
Remember that Supply/Demand is a ratio with 2 variables. If XBOX is sold out, it doesnt necesarrily mean that the demand was greater. It could mean that the supply was not enough, and from the reports I've heard, they did not make enough XBOX's by a long shot (something like 300,000?). Nintendo, on the other hand, is planning to ship 1.1 million units by the year's end.
As an example: I was in both XBOX and GC overnight lines. The XBOX sold out, with 21 or so people who had camped out. The GC did NOT sell out, but had ~35 people camped out.
but I haven't heard of anyone sleeping over at a store to be the first to have one!!!
Consider yourself informed; about 30 people (including me) were camped out last night.
Let's not forget that Nintendo has been doing this a while. They're not going to roll over and die, they're going to roll their sleeves up and show the industry a thing or two.
Basically, there will be a point soon where even gaming consoles will all be "fast enough"
...except that it has never been about hardware performance. If it was strictly about polygons and mip-mapping, then the PS1 would not have been competition for the N64, because PS1 games all looked like shit. It's about fun games, and blockbuster titles like MGS1, Gran Turismo, Zelda, Mario, etc., make or break a system, which is why console makers love to see "exclusively for XXX" so they can have an advantage over console YYY.
Monkey Ball is the shiznit. I played it until the wee hours, as soon as I brought it home. Multiplayer goodness to the extreme.

I have a difficult time comparing Ender's Game with Harry Potter
You know, I recently finished Ender's Game, and I must say, I don't know what the big deal is about that book. Everyone seems to think it an outstanding work, but I don't see it's greatness. As a military/strategy type book, it fails at giving great details of the battles. As a story about Ender Wiggin... eh, it's good, but not great. The ending, while cool, was not as amazing as others I've read.
From what I understand of Card's intentions, the 2nd book in the series (Speaker for the Dead) was intended as the "main" work of the series, not Ender's Game. I'm almost done with the 2nd book, and I still don't see what all the praise is about.
Who wants to place bets on how long it will be until someone hacks a way to play X-BOX games on your PC? (And who wants to bet that they'll run better on a non-staticly configured home system with the latest and greatest hardware?)
Perspective changes whenever you move. Things always look different from another viewpoint.
Wow. Bright girl, that tori amos. I remember another poignant quote she had: "When you close your eyes, you can't see anything. Always keep your eyes open to see."
If I could backend everything to a SQL database I would.
I agree, but when will databases be at the point where they can hold images/movies *in* the database, as a column type? My porn collection is cluttered all over my hard drive.
Such a device would be terrible for living birds. Can you imagine an enemy camp shooting every flying bird that comes close with a bazooka for fear of one of these devices?
If you can make a bird "spy" thingy, then you could make it into other animals too, and soon the baddies would literally be shooting anything that moves.

I personally don't see whats so great about packing a bunch of old systems into one.
Huh? Did you read something that lead you to believe the gamecube is an amalgamation of NES, SNES, N64?
Im not much of a gammer but even if i were i won't spend $300 on the game cube.
That's good, because it's $200. Add a game, $250.
