  2. RTFA on Email Worse Than Marijuana For Intelligence? · · Score: 1, Informative

I don't believe it. Cracking MD5 is one tought nut, and to do this on massive scale as implied by the article, is impracticble. I suspect that even if they had a quick crack to MD5 or SHA, it would just mean a new hash would be needing to be developed. I'm in Texas, but still, show me.

  9. Now what? on Linus Drops BitKeeper · · Score: 0

Mod me down if you wish. I use Linux, but prefer BSD's just because of this kind of shit. A critical piece of software being managed by one person. At his whim. When a team develops software, there are more eyes on the DECISIONS and that results in better decisions. This decision by Linus is just an example of the decisions that could be flawed by having only one person owning a project. Now what? This will likely put back the development of Linux.

  10. Zonk, go get a business degree on Google Founders Cut Salaries to $1 · · Score: 0

How can maximizing profits be evil? I know of only one other person I can remeber recently using the "evil" word, and I don't agree with his methods either. Slashdot is supposed to be a exchage of information, not an opposite of Fox news. Business is business, these changes that were made are perfectly legal and may reflect the founders belief that the stock is more valuable than dollars. The fact that it's a tax dodge also is possibly a secondary benefit.

Yes, encryption relies on obscuring the data, but the encryption alogrythm should not be "secret". An example of a security measure not relying on obscurity would include firewalls, yes? The data is there, just not for you.
