    No, man. You are still missing the point. As somebody stated before, Unix's philosophy is "do one thing very well". The ls command is meant to do one thing: to list files and subdirectories. Period. That way, it's a tool that can be used by users and other tools without expecting more nor less. One of those tools is, precisely, your terminal.

    So, ls is not guessing at all. It's doing its job very well. If you don't like the way it works, blame it to your terminal software. Go find or write your own "smart-the-alomex-way" terminal software. Personally, I prefer my terminal to behave the way it does. I just use "less", or my mouse wheel.

    And by the way... this behavior is found in other OSes. Try a dir in an msdos prompt.

    YYoouu rreeaadd iitt sslloowweerr because it's not a good analogy. A better analogy would be that we extend the alphabet by adding 26 times more symbols (26*26 = 676 symbols), so, in theory, we could cut the words half their current size, and thus, reading them faster.

    Dude, if it's not done yet, and you don't anything except complaining, that's not going to motivate people to solve the problem. Go hire a developer team to do it for you, and make millions selling the resulting product to others.

    talking over the phone, via e-mail is not as clear cut as body language.

    I think that I can express myself better over the phone, thank you. Going to a club and using my body language while dancing could send the message "Hey, ladies, our children could be beaten up everyday at school!".

    However, let me clear things up a little bit. When you spin or walk and suddenly stop, and you feel your brain overcompensates is not due to sight but to the inner ear, where the "labyrinth", and its fluids that help us with orientation, resides.

    Wow, man.... it might not be a big deal, but I understand those people who still stick to imperial units.

    I mean, in Venezuela, where I live, I was born thinking in metric system units. Now, if the government declares that all of us must use brittish imperial units... that would be hard for me.

    I like Canada... hasn't visited it yet, but according to everything I've heard about it, it has more resemblance with Europe than with the United States. And I liked Europeans, not caring that much about racism, and not violent at all (at least, most of them). I guess Canada is more or less like that.

    A virus spreading using phones and PCs could be possible.

    But there are many technical quirks to take into account, beginning with the fact that PCs and phones have different hardware architectures. A huge barrier.

    Maybe be it's a hardware problem.

    I love Linux.. I got slackware 9.0, and it runs beautifully. However, I keep Windows XP lying around, and I have to admit it's never given me trouble. Just once, the PC was freezing as hell, but it was a dead fan cooler.

    XP is very stable. Too bad is too insecure "by default".

    Feel free to actually read the fucking posting before you criticize.

    The Ctrl+ENTER he's referring to is very useful in Mozilla... it will open the URL in a new tab. In firefox, you just can't do this.

    I haven't tried it myself, but entering "slashdot.org" will try to fetch www.slashdot.org.com when typing Ctrl+Enter? Give me a break.
