    Sarcasm: Thus, adding to the long list of countries the US has nuked! You say the US is the "bad guy", but can't give one sensible reason why you beleive this (aside from America's tendancy to nuke other countries, of course). I think that you are the one that is brainwashed.

    Typical US "good guy" syndrome. USians have been brainwashed by their own cultural propaganda machine (Hollywood) to the point where US=good is never questioned.

    Russia, China, US.... guess what, they're all just as bad. The US is NOT the good guy. History has more than proven that regardless of the political and economical structures in place, superpowers inadvertently end up being rules by an elite that will procede to screw over anyone else if they think they can get away with it.

    The only thing that has kept a global nuclear armageddon at bay is the the global nuclear balance with Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD) as an inevibility. If the US manages to build an effective (or perceived as effective) ICBM defense the other nuclear powers wil have to follow suit or sooner or later the US will nuke another country because it can, there's nothing there to plunder and it's a lot cheaper than invading.

    So what's keeping you then?

    There are a couple of reasons that could start a massive public uprising in the US :

    • Gas prices rise to a realistic level that reflects the costs of fossil fuel and global supply and demand => Hence the Iraqi oil grab to delay the inevitable for a couple of years.

    • All TV networks suddenly go down.

    • Sudden Collapse of the "World" Wrestling Federation

    • Janet Jackson flashes her pussy on national TV

    • US government suddenly is bereft of "The Enemy" and there's not enough time to create another one.

    Some British commentators have semi-seriously suggested that the UK should join the US, as it would thus become by far the wealthiest and most populous - and therefore the most politically influential - state in the Union


    The British people would probably be against it but since WWII British governments have shamelessy rimmed whoevers' in the White House in order to preserve their "Special Relationship" (Personally I think that Master/Slave is not that special).


    Oh and the most influential state in the Union, Israel, isn't even part of it....

    The US does not need to adhere to any kind of international agreement, rule, norm or law because USians are "God's chosen elect", made out of "Superior Moral Fiber"(TM). Therefore they do not need to listen to the inferior other 95% of the world population.

    The PC is far too complicated for a media hub

    Obviously you are a proud member of the technologically challenged masses. You are right by sticking to consoles, getting the most out of your PC is definitely not for you.

    If an FPS or RTS is made where PC and console players can compete over the the net I predict that console players will be trounced to the point of utter humiliation by the PC crowd.

    Doesn't really matter because the only choice Usians that still bother to vote have is right wing or extreme right wing. US government will remain fascist regardless of who's in the White House. Yes, fascist, look it up if you don't believe me. Nazi Germany was fascism in the guise of socialism, the USSR was fascism disguised as communism and now the US has fascism under the illusion of democracy.

    they did a good job with Dune (certainly better than Dino DeLaurentis did in the 80's)

    Delaurentis is (was?) a producer, that movie was directed by David Lynch...

    I really liked the Dune movie by Lynch, although he modified the story here and there (especially the rain at the end), I feel he nailed the imagery and general atmosphere of the Dune Universe perfectly.

    The person who designed the absolutely ridiculous costumes should be shot, hung and quartered for totally ruining the SciFi Channel Dune miniseries... The costumes were marginally better in the second cycle (Children of Dune) but the storytelling was awful... I knew what was going on but for someone who hasn't read the novels it must have been utterly confusing

    I guess "bright future" is rather subjective...

    First of all, there are still lawyers, that is utterly pessimistic...

    Their "bright future" is based on maintaining the status quo for another 1/4 of a century. Besides technological and medical advances, nothing has fundamentally changed in the US, that is utterly optimistic...

    Noone is wearing stars & stripes armbands. Where are the obligatory Ministry of Homeland Security surveillance pods and the "this news(TM) broadcast brought to you by the Ministry(TM) of Truth(TM)" disclaimers ? Not very realistic if you ask me...

    Back in the 80's there was this French TV channel that aired now classic anime shows like Dragon Ball (the orignal, not that Z-crap), Saint Seya, Fist of the North Star, Albator... Other channels had the usual like the A-team, Knight Rider, etc... I could easily do without those but NOTHING would come between me and my weekly anime fix...

    Another difference is that today I still enjoy that same classic anime while most of the American series have turned into utter tripe over the years...

    Get real. The two parties that have representatives in Congress have power because of the PEOPLE who make up the party ranks. I like to believe that the Democratic party is made up of people who care about other people's suffering, while the Republicans...they care about the poor and hungry, too. They enjoy watching them suffer.

    The choice between Democrat and Republican equates to a choice between right-wing and extreme right-wing. Not much of a choice at all. The difference is mainly one of style, there have been no mayor differences between Democrat and Republican policies since WWII, the mayor trends continue regardless of who's in power

    Well, technically, since the US hasn't bothered to actually declare war since WWII, neither are US soldiers... The US government is the first to start bleating about Geneva Conventions when one of their military are captured and paraded on TV while simultaneously disgregarding them whenever it is convenient...

    They have sold out their Australian citizenship by engaging in illegal conflict.

    When are you people going to realize that the War on Terror is a gigantic scam with the US population as primary and the rest of the world as secondary mark ? The goals of this scam are, amongst others, : instill fear so that the US public will revert to the "Follow the Leader Complex" without question, secure the oil fields of the Middle East for American energy concerns, maintian and increase the flow of taxpayer money towards the military-industrial complex (which has basically become a communist-style government financed industry), ensure continuity in the US's Need For An Enemy after the unexpected demise of the USSR, etc...

    The US government & media is trying to convince everyone that there are ever increasing hordes of bloodthirsty terrorists that want to destroy Western civilisation. While terrorism is definitely a problem, it has been blown totally out of proportion by obsessive media coverage... According to this analysis by the US stater department 2002 saw the lowest incidence of international terrorist attacks (that is with 9/11 factored in, but IMO 9/11 was a catalyst staged by an alliance of certain energy- and weapons industry concerns, the Bush family and their close friends in the Saudi Royal family).

    Now you may start modding me down, crying conspiracy theory and regurgitate the FUD that you have been fed...
