My laptop has a huge combination two CPU fan heatsink that generates a lot of noise. I fear that it's non-standard. Does anyone know good ways of silencing laptops?

Dear God, don't these companies get it? Any restrictions on the music I download will NOT make me want to pay for them, and tying music to specific types of players (yes, Apple is included here) will also NOT make me want to pay for them.
You can compete with free, but ONLY if the service you offer is much more desirable than the free version. I have not seen anyone do this right yet.
Wow, you haven't even tried the game at all and you're assuming it's just a bunch of Tetris clones put together. Ye know what, mate? We don't want you.
Agreed. Honestly, it's the best community I've ever seen in an MMORPG (mostly because it seems to be a bit of an older one, attracting both men and women in their mid-20s). It has an entirely player run economy, very active devs and player support staff (OceanMasters are always on and always available to help), and it generates a sense of teamwork I haven't seen in any other game (effectively, you puzzle together to keep a ship afloat and running well).
The reason you should care (assuming you are in the US, which I am not, thankfully) is that eventually, they will make it legal for these lobbying groups to do whatever they want to stop you from being able to do what you're doing now (I believe they had a bill in Congress once that allowed them to try to gain access to your computer if they believed you were sharing copyrighted files [i.e. hack in], this was luckily struck down).
Write your senators. This is NOT something that Americans should ignore, considering that more than half of you that are on the internet use P2P services.
(In XP) Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> Set Program Access and Defaults -> Non-Microsoft.
And the reason that they cannot remove Internet Explorer is that it is tightly integrated into the OS and with Explorer.exe, which displays file management windows. It has been this way since Windows 98 or ME I believe.
Please do some research instead of assuming things.
I agree. Any time I'm downloading music from Kazaa, I specifically look at the file's extension to make sure it's MP3, not WMA. Previously I was doing this for audible quality reasons (WMAs are inferior. Seriously.) but now I'll just be adding this onto my reasons.
You know... I bet you could make a script to do this for you...

...so a 60 minute album would take you the same amount of time to copy...
You're wrong. The Nullsoft WAV writer writes as fast as your CPU will allow; it's not EXACTLY recording back from your soundcard.
It's the precursor to forums.
So, what's next for the telecom industry?

While you're correct, malware installs through ActiveX work like true browser extentions: they gain access to your HDD and do whatever they want.
Anything that leads to Windows ME is undoubtedly a mistake.
Clueless, or ordered by the government?
Nah. There would be OS/2 95.
History repeats.
You should read the TCPA FAQ if you have not already. It explains why this is a bad thing.

OK, pay $24.95 per quarter ($19.99 first quarter) or $74.95 per year.

Arr, ye wish to say that again there, sonny Jim?

Give it a try, you can download the client and play it for a week free.

Indeed.
Trustworthy Computing isn't a way to secure your computer. It's a way to take its control away from you.
Besides, corporations often burn CD-Rs of their own copies of the OS and use their volume license keys as often as they want.
I've *never* had rendering problems with Slashdot. Am I in the minority?
Starting at just $200,000 a pop
That is one expensive cherry.
(I'm so sorry >_)

Makes you wonder if the two companies could be in collusion to get around monopoly laws, eh?
Yes, it's still available.

That's correct, isn't it? The RIAA is *publishing* their works on a P2P service. I bet a valid argument could be made in court there.
