IANAL, but I would guess the buyer could be entitled to charge them in both civil and criminal courts. You don't have to choose one or the other AFAIK.
Frankly, at this rate, it would be more humane and cheaper to just shoot them and be done with it. The US is already the top detaining country in the world; at least it would lower that number a bit.
(The law is insane and should be repealed ASAP. Sex offenders have a right to a career if they're in the tech field.)
Well yes. At the moment, I'm in a lease until the beginning of next September though. I never really planned on staying there much longer since at least one of my roommates is moving out anyway, and the rent is pretty much guaranteed to go up by at least $200 (we got a pretty sweet discount on this place). This is strictly a "for now" thing, since I don't do contracts with ISPs.
Goddamn, I hate Rogers. At least they're being honest with their bandwidth caps now. Unfortunately, I find myself in the position of having to switch fairly soon to a cable-based service as the phone lines in this apartment are horribly old and low-quality. My experience with TekSavvy has been great from a customer service standpoint but it seems any DSL line I get here will be subject to the same problems, problems my landlord is almost certainly not willing to fix.
I know about 3web but I've heard some fairly bad things as well. Can anyone recommend some non-DSL, high speed (5+ MBPS), preferably low-cost ISPs in the London, Ontario area?
On another note, I'm almost certain this is going to cause unforeseen problems for Rogers, or at least their customers. I'm glad I don't do tech support for them...
And as pointed out in TFA, this has some pretty evil possibilities. Barring the obvious censorship issues, who's to prevent Rogers from replacing, say, Google Adsense scripts with their own ads? They already do it with Bell ads on their digital cable. Don't believe me? If you have Rogers digital cable, you'll notice that there are some ads that play on every channel that has commercials. If you look closely at the start of these ads, you'll usually see about a half second of another ad, quickly replaced by the Rogers network-wide one. These preempted ads are usually for Bell ExpressVu, Rogers' main (satellite) competitor.
But, like most cable companies, they remain because they have a monopoly on the cable market. Ultimately, this is the problem that needs to be solved before the rest, and I don't see it happening any time soon.
They don't even really try to hide it any more, do they? This "article" reads exactly like a DSL ad.
Anyway, no, Comcast isn't going anywhere. They have a monopoly in several markets like a lot of other cable companies and so they wouldn't be going anywhere regardless of their level of suck.
Seriously. And it's not like it's that hard, either. It's not seven-level wipe (actually three level, which from my research suggests nobody could undo even examining every bit in an electron microscope), but all you have to do on a Windows system is run cipher/w C:\ after deleting any files you don't want someone to find.
1. You don't end up with a highly suspicious wipe and reinstall. 2. You don't have to download extra, suspicious software to do the wipe for you as cipher.exe is included with Win2K and WinXP.
Linux, of course, has the shred command anyway. But then, I suppose he's not a geek. It was a pretty stupid move to hire someone like that though without some sort of NDA.
I actually created a script that checked and regexed this Canada Wii online inventory scraper every minute (on a cron) and emailed me when it found one (and I set my email to check every minute). Took about a week, but I managed to get one from the Best Buy online store in the ~15 minutes they were in stock.
Unfortunately the page appears to be broken but if someone would like me to code a replacement I could probably do that for a reasonable fee (I mean, I already have one) and have it email you instead.
If you know how to code this is a decent way of finding a Wii for retail prices.
I suspect we'll have 3D interfaces when it becomes cheap to manufacture displays that can actually project a 3D interface. Screw 2D projections of a 3D world, I want my VR!
Speaking of which, the future needs the following three Star Trek items to solve everything all at once:
Teleporters (solves all transportation issues)
Replicators (solves hunger)
Holodeck (solves sexual ten... I mean, makes simulation much easier. Yes, that's it)
So seriously, science, it only took you like twenty years to catch up to the first Star Trek, what the hell?
Uh... They're not exactly extinguishing it if they're allowing free, unencumbered download of the product. They just bought SysInternals a while back so they distribute their stuff now.
This is the main thing I see as a problem in US Customs (and possibly elsewhere): The front-line officer has way too much power at their discretion. If you talk to a supervisor, they're likely to say "ok, I'll write up a report", and then you get deported by the officer (if not detained) and put "on probation" for entering, which likely means you won't be able to again without significant checks, every time.
I really dislike the idea that because the WGA is striking, everyone else tangentially connected to them should stop what they're doing as well in a "show of support" for the strike. If you do, in fact, support the strike, good for you. But this criticism of people who don't stop what they're doing really kinda pisses me off.
If you're not a member of the WGA, they do not represent you and you therefore do not represent them.
I don't see why not. That reminds me of those action figures from the 80s / early 90s that had plastic notched strips you pulled quickly to get them to "say" something.

I thought PCI replaced ISA ten years ago!

Dubbed answer: Do Not Want
Nah, /. is more like an uninitialized pointer. You expect something to be there, but what you get is sheer insanity.

Oh, well, I'd better go get Verizon right now!
*sigh*

PCG is in fact finalized a couple months or so before the ship date.
Yes, but Win2K also had EFS. I don't have documentation on-hand but I can almost guarantee it was in there too.
Ah, there it is, cipher.exe was included in a hotfix.
Not to mention that he was being redundant.

You know you can just scroll down to see the answer, right? It's usually about halfway down the page, they just don't want you to know it's there.

I know you guys are hopeful but I really doubt Microsoft will open Windows.
This is just so they can threaten to ship out unruly employees ;^)
Uh... They're not exactly extinguishing it if they're allowing free, unencumbered download of the product. They just bought SysInternals a while back so they distribute their stuff now.
And if someone got it off eBay?

Wow, I didn't know this was so widespread.

I suddenly remembered I was planning on upgrading to Vista Ultimate and Office Ultimate today!
A pun that actually made me laugh. My hat is off to you sir!
