  1. Yet another version... on 'Final Edition' of Blade Runner to be Released · · Score: 1

...just read the book. Only one version. Play the mood organ. Kill some more inhuman replicant deserters. Try to afford another fake animal. Life (and DVDs) repeat.

  2. Grammar Nazi Sig attack on Why Buggy Software Gets Shipped · · Score: 1

In your sig you said: "There is nothing inherently safe about liberty. That's why so many people died protecting it."

Tense fault. It should read "That's why so many people DIE protecting it."

The process is ongoing. Live for it. Die for it.

A pessimist/historian might opt for the perfective form: "have died", implying that such death has gone out of fashion.

  3. Words and music: Credits on Human Genome Sequencing Completed · · Score: 1

I have this from some apparently-now-vanished web page:

The question of the merits of different programming languages has often been called a "religious argument", except maybe by those who assume that theres obviously One Right True and Only Way and it begins with C. This track is on the Roundworm CD, available for $15 from Prometheus Music, http://www.prometheus-music.com/

Credits: Julia Ecklar: lead vocals & guitar. Kristoph Klover: 6-string guitar

The question of the merits of different programming languages has often been called a ``religious argument,'' except maybe by those who assume that of course there's One Right True and Only Way and it begins with a C.

  9. DNS solution? on D-Link Firmware Abuses Open NTP Servers · · Score: 1

Can his DNS host at dix.dk be configured to only resolve his ip address to other dix.dk hosts, perhaps even to a list of known BGP routers? Then one TTL later, the DLINK boxes would lose contact. This would seem to be in every Danish ISP's interest.

The ntp servers listed include a number of government sites, some universities, and others. They may be suffering without noticing yet. If some of them could be talked into taking an interest, California law and class action might be words that get the attention of D-Link management.

    Skin color still counts.

I remember talking with a Central American many years ago. He described his girlfriend as cinnamon colored. His view from his multiracial environment was way ahead of the time. I never thanked him for his insight.

When skin color is treated like hair color or eye color, we will have stopped talking about it as anything more than it is - superficial.

Maybe the future will be better.

IANAWD (not a web designer), but aren't there people who might craft some scripts to do a LOT of pinging? To drive up someone else's Google costs? To make a site look busier/better/more popular than it otherwise might appear?

And could on hide ping tags + refresh metatags to do a kind of DDOS attack?

There could be all sorts of interesting possibilities in this new toy.
