3 generations of people rode airplanes without needing to be subjected to just short of anal probe (coming soon) and we got on fine. Terrorism was as much a threat in 1950 in 1960 in 1970 as it is today yet in those times we walked right up to the plane without hassle. Its all about people control. it has zero to do with your protection. Just consider it as rude and don't fly. seems pretty simple to me
I have heard of modern film making described as a form of investment banking where somehow magically a movie comes out the other end of the process. Taste, aesthetics, or common sense seem to be no part of this process. I can see why the studios would view the public as the same witless drug addled types as they star in these movies and therefore think them incapable of making the simple choice of not buying a poor product.
Funny. I "do stuff" with my older Macs, older PCs even older Apple IIgs and C=64 boxes (which is what this thread started about. For years I have tinkered with networking dis-similar topologies together. As to older tech and newer stuff, there ARE browsers (iCab on 68k based machines for example) that work, ditto other software if you know how to look and what to do. I would not use a older box to run a modern business but if pressed and poor I could figure out ways to make hardware work. Mac vs PC is a nice game, but it is silly. Both have bugs both suck and both are cool.
one emp producing Nuke exploded 25k miles above Kansas. No worries what is connected to who, it all goes off. Tell me how a smart grid connection will prevent this scenario.
Through the magic of Wikipedia: The worst effects of a Russian high altitude test occurred on 22 October 1962 (during the Cuban missile crisis), in âOperation Kâ(TM) (ABM System A proof tests) when a 300-kt missile-warhead detonated near Dzhezkazgan at 290-km altitude. The EMP fused 570 km of overhead telephone line with a measured current of 2,500 A, started a fire that burned down the Karaganda power plant, and shut down 1,000-km of shallow-buried power cables between Aqmola and Almaty.

In our shop and many out there using Microsoft products, we have a maintenance agreement that demands a use of MS Explorer and integration with such things as.NET and IIS. There is not much call for Mozilla and Python in the corporate land.
But from a yardstick survey of 14 co-workers, only 1 uses IE at home. We are FORCED to use IE at work. Doesn't mean we like it...
The sarcophagus is leaking and should be repaired. Estimates back when the dollar had value was one billion of them to fix it. Considering how it may be needful for the future habitability of Europe I would think the world would be interested, but we forget too quickly.. Yes Nukes are far more safe today but do not forget: Potentially you could cause a LOT of hurt...
Yes, you had never heard of her. But now you and everyone else HAS. This may be what it claims to be, or it may be a Streisand Effect orchestrated by the model's own manager. - This just in "Irving Forbush the well known public figure(?) is suing (enter media outlet du jours) for what they SAID!"... Irving who?
For Technical contributions Honorable Mention should be given to Ken Silverman:

Ken was a brilliant young programmer who we all love but never knew. You rock Ken!

You young whippersnapper! I have been driving for 96 years and never get into any of those accidents I always keep hearing right behind me the few times I drive. It is unsafe to drive any faster then my standard 15 miles per hour in the fast lane on the freeway so just don't do it. now I don't want to hear you anymore so I am turning off my hearing aid.
I will believe it when the smoke and mirrors are actually changed to some hard data. This seems more an Emperor's new clothes thing to me though. The RIAA does not wish to reveal that the hand they are playing is a busted flush
the same has been true of used books for some 10 generations.
But the digital world will soon make that a thing of the past. Then once only digital books are available they will be printed in ASCII, no in Rich Text, no in PDF, no.docx no Kendel reader no....in a standard that will LAST for another 10 generations! or not...
It works almost as well as saving a file, any file, under OS X... but uses much more overhead. I have found Office 2007 cumbersome, bloated, breaks standards... I would expect the same best practices in play with this product...
they didn't. the slower one was waiting for its wife to get ready.
a 2009 memo to clarify a 2003 memo. ...and acting at speed of light too!

you could sell plots to people with the pitch: "Best view of the North Star Ever!" I am sure it would be a filled up sub-divison in no time!

The last bit of code Bill wrote himself was the porting of MS Basic to work on the Tandy Model 100. He also made 2 glaring errors.
Its the eye-patch; it detracts from the visual purity of the cosmic goodness of the beard
