    i always used a lot of virtual machines. i had like 8 at one time. and i always had a VM that was as close to the dev machine as possible so i could test things and not get a "it works on my machine" in fact after a while i would only work on the dev environment that the bug was discovered on. doesnt matter what your computer's OS is as long as you find it easy to use.

    i live in tokyo. since friday there have been daily earthquakes sometimes multiple with a magnitude of at least 3. i live in the akihabara area and businesses are doing their best to reduce all power consumption. people too are doing a good job of reducing power consumption. sections of the greater tokyo area are in scheduled black outs. trains are running at a 50%-75% schedule. as far what is happening up north.... i know what you know. where all my foreign friends have left i am still here. i went to shinagawa 2 times this week to get a reentry permit and the line the first time was 15hrs long. so i showed up the next day 1 hour before opening and the line was 2km or longer. as far as my japanese friends they are concerned however tokyo is still running, people still have jobs to goto and such.

    welcome to the world of software development. lots of features only a small subset of users use. i dont follow firefox but i thoughts thats why they were trying to move everything to extensions.

    while security though obscurity is not security it can be used as one pick of a larger puzzle to make it harder for possible infectors of your computer. i use 4 web browsers each with different security settings and plugins enabled to limit possible attack vectors.

    i don't know dude. my guest house upgraded me to a 70mbps connection and my part time job still told me it was "too slow" im thinking here "i'd kill for 70mps in the states"

    i use opera as my primary browser. you dont like it. its ok. but it is a really good speedy browser.

    you know... in my mind (dont know about the legal system's mind) he didnt remove copy protection. all he did was discover a way to copy protect things that normally required sony to copy protect them. so while IANAL to me that argument doesnt hold water.

    i still haven't figured out when it asks for my birth date on forms if they want year of the emperor or Gregorian year. i try to ask the staff but my japanese isnt that good yet.

    Have you been to Japan lately? I went to buy a USED CD and it was over $20 US. a new one was over $30 US at that point i figured i would just make playlists in youtube for the music i find i want to hear. there is a plugin for firefox to download the videos which i havent used yet because technically i just want the audio.

    i do the same thing whenever i cant remember a kanji. often times i know the correct kanji usage but i forget how to draw it. to me reading is fundamental. 95% of my writing is done via computer so i worry very little about character drawings.

    i don't need to worry about that. according to that page it uses flash for rendering video/voice. i removed flash from my browser.

    i also currently live in japan. my experience with not taking pictures has only be at certain sacred temples and shrines and only indoors where some of the artifacts may be effected by lights (i dont know the science of deterioration but i comply out of respect) or where outside where certain sacred events are taking place.

    sometimes i enter a store and try to take a picture or 2 and the staff asks me to stop in which case i do stop and i leave almost immediately when that happens.

    im here on a visa and dont want to get kicked out but sometimes i think to myself
    1. ask for permission first?
    2. play the stupid tourist and get asked to stop?

    temples and shrines i ask first since those are sacred places.

    the Obj-C and C++ portions of the code typically didn't have access to the database as it was usually client/server programming with C/C++/Java/Obj-C on the client communicating to a PHP/Python or rarely a C++ back end in charge of the business logic. And no i never came across the projects you reference.

    I think my point is not everyone can know everything. You shouldn't be testing if someone got exposed to a keyword or a project. you should be testing weather someone has the ability to understand and use a concept.

    bad analogy time...not all carpenters have used stucko, but can they understand how to use it?

    I got to say... 10 years of programming experience in C/C++/Obj-C/Obj-C++, Java, and Fortran with MS SQLServer, MySQL, Postgres, Informix, and Oracle I had never heard or used this term. I had to google it.

    you can have an apple employee activate your iphone/ipad before you leave the store. only reason for a computer is to sync it. and while i may not be your average consumer i only sync my phone to get new photos on my phone.

    i've had this happen to me too. its to the point i log everything and i tell users i will not help them unless they provide a screenshot of the error and a log.

    at that point you either get the screenshot and a log or the user stops using the product. either way support costs goes way down.

    so they always had the "new app" position.

    plus these apps didnt have nude woman they had woman in suggestive positions wearing cloths. to get around the parental filtering.

    its all in the GSM/CDMA licensing. nokia, motorola, etc. all have patents you have to pay for. so the CDMA chip is like $100. $1 to make. $99 is licensing.

    or in abbreviated form. CoDMW2.

    i hate to be so literal about it but if the company wanted it called "CoD6" they would have named it "CoD6"

    they don't however to have bartenders better enforce the "uhh sry dude your already drunk i cant serve you" they force bars to be responsible. also this helps enforce the bar cutting someone off when they've helped them too much and the bar helping them find a ride when they get too drunk.
