Are you on crack? that is absolutly not true. the Majority of canadians are still on dialup modem connections. Which is still much cheaper, at about 18$/month for dialup, and about 39.95$/month for cable/DSL (which doesn't include the high setup cost for cable or dsl).

I don't know if this has been suggested before, but it would probably be a good idea if people wrote their local newspapers to get our side of the story out. We all know that the decss will be used to play DVD's on multiple platforms, but others don't. If we are lucky, maybe we can get some newspapers to write feature stories on this issue.

If you want to see GNOME screw up, try installing it to it's own dir, say /usr/local/gnome. This is not meant to be a flame, it's the honest truth, when. When I installed October gnome to /usr/local/gnome, most of the programs in it *INSISTED* on looking for shared files in /usr/local/share, when they really should have been looking in /usr/local/gnome/share. I think gnome is pretty good, I like the look and feel and stability of KDE much better. KDE 2.0 is coming along very nicely.

Some people might say that this would actually be a good thing. After all they are only collecting data on video cards (or so we think). The problem I have with this is that companys seem to be doing this more and more often. Getting bolder as time goes on. If we don't stick up for our rights now, we will lose them without even realizing it. I was going to buy Q3. But now I've decided against it. I refuse to support any company that steals information (no matter what it's purpose), especially without telling us.

I'd like to encourage everyone to write the folks at ID Software and tell them how much you dislike them collecting your computers information. But be polite.

Corel Linux was AWESOME!!!

I tried installing it on my friends computer and all I have to say is WoW!!! It preconfigured pretty much everything except for sound and the printer. Other than that it was able to set up my friends computer to work on our college residence network on the internet, detect an NFS on my computer, and properly detect my friends video card. The filemanger is really nice too, I can't wait till the KDE team brings all the changes to the main KDE distro. The only real problems with the install was the fact that it stayed at 98% for several minutes, mind you it wasn't hung, but it was still installing programs.

Other than that I would recommend Corel Linux to anybody, especially newbies who want to try Linux for the very first time...

RIAA will sue someone!!!

RIAA should be scared out of their minds because users are not logged on permanently, so it's hard to track them down to take legal action.

Instead of tracking down the users who are running illegal sites, I think the RIAA would just sue Napster or whoever runs sites like them. Even though they would probably never win, it would sure scare the s**t out of most small companies, and bring them into compliance with the RIAA's wishes.

I'm not american so I don't really now much about US Law, but doesn't the new "Digital Millenium Act" or whatever it's called make it illegal to allow people to make available ways to obtain illegal warez such as MP3's etc...???

By allowing AC's to post comments, it frees up the person to post thoughts on a discussion without first worrying "what if someone I know reads this", and then "what will they do to me.?"...

I don't know if this is paranoid, but it is important to me at least to have the AC posting ability...

When I upgraded from 3.3.3 to 3.3.4 I noticed a slight speed increase using my V3 3000.

Using Xengine as a benchmark :), i went from 1000RPM to about 3000RPM...

Hopefully the debian team will have it out in a day or so in .debs for potato (I love bleeding edge).

This is excellent news... Wine is a great tool for working with windows software under windows... It is the one reason I don't have windows anymore to run Unreal... Hopefully one day it will run most windows software under linux... :)
