I'm guessing that you don't subscribe to mailing lists. Google is great for mailing lists with the conversation feature and the ability to search old mail and being able to apply multiple labels and skip the inbox. My usage goes up by around one megabyte a day with one active mailing lists and two semi-active mailing lists. I could easily see going over a hundred megs in a month if I add a couple of mailing lists to the pool.
But if all the deadheads voted there might be enough voters to at least allow a third party to compete with the two major parties. Ralph Nader needs 5% in this election to get government funding for his party next time around, he's above 5% in the polls right now and if he keeps that then maybe, just maybe, we can look for a good run from the third parties in 2008.
Which brings me to the belief that I have had that if every deadhead in this country voted this would be a different place. I can't emphasize how important it is that everyone votes. Please in the national election, everybody cast a vote. Bush won by having less than 60% of eligible voters vote and then only a marginal majority of those choose him.
It's interesting that with all the crap that keeps happening with how our rights are taken away and companies like this are installing things onto our computers to prevent us from using tools that we should be able to use that so many people just take it. Too many people are not passionate enough about things like this that it allows these companies to continue to do these things.
You're right, they could be blowing their own horn right now and saying, "look at us, look at us", but their not. Maybe we can trust this big giant, with one eye open.
Actually, this makes sense if you think about it; slashdot uses Google's AdSense to display ads. This is an article about ad services. The AdSense picks up this and then displays an advertisement based on the content, a slashdot article about AdSense.
It would seem to me that he is pointing out programming in general and that he's trying to give everybody some of his programming habits and opinions, not mythes.
Bug fixes, CVS and other things are just some benefits that you may experience by using FOSS, but all the benefits are more likely to happen on a larger, more popular project, but any experienced Open Sourcer should know that you can't expect all the benefits all the time, we're none-union.
I have always felt that it would be better for a band to make more of a living off of working there ass's off playing concerts than for them to sit in a studio and produce an album every year. Also, you can't forget that bands do make a lot of their profit not only off of CD sales, but off of touring.
I have also known qutie a few bands that keep their prices down to 6 or 7 dollars for the CD or less because they feel that it is better for more people to be able to afford their music and listen to it rather than make a profit off the few that are willing to shell out $20-$40 per an album that has only a few good songs on it. If more bands thought like this then maybe there will be a lot more good music and less piracy.
Then they don't have to go through the process of making a CD/Jacket/Jewel Case S/H and storing it on a store shelf, cutting costs for record companys but still makng $1 off each song and having the possibility that more people may buy that one song. I think that this may actually prove to be more profitable than selling whole CD's.

Could you tell me where to get those red dimes? Or are they just another NASA coloring scheme?

Forget the RIAA and MPAA, it's the sticker companies that are lobbying for this. They are bound to make millions of dollars off of a contract with M$.
