That's the thing with Doctors, you don't "allow" them to do anything, you suggest and try to guide them. Beyond that there are still lots of ways to circumvent all of that both intentionally and unintentionally.
Oh I agree, but inevitably there are still ways to circumvent that, doing a word document ahead of time and copying the information in, needing pdf files for who knows what, fax to desktop is another one where documents start flying all over the place. Digital records are only as good as the people using them, not the people implementing them.
I used to work as an IT outsourcer, and security becomes a big headache with lots of Doctors. Quite often Doctors like to be able to work from home either via VPN or some other remote solution, or just taking work home with them. Then comes the problem that most of them aren't very technically inclined and/or let their kids do whatever they want. It doesn't matter how much training or what you implement, Doctor's especially those with private practices will always find a way to mess things up and pose security risks.
While one can argue about the impact on music, books, reading, spread of knowledge, has always been a singularly important practice, this whole scandal has been about greed, and nothing more, people want their money. Its a shame that as a society we cave to monetary demands and forget the importance that information should be free.
There are probably a few other MMO's they ought to take with them... cough cough Galaxies cough cough... Seriously though, it's nice to see a dev team giving some culmination to players that have stuck with it.
I know the series got some good mentions, especially Ocarina of Time that brought the series 3D but about the original, first game with a save cartridge, over the top perspective, huge world, second quests! Seriously, a big miss for this list.
As a company like google grows, practices like these are only going to become more common. They have to start "protecting" their interests. Not that it will work, but it's the natural reaction, much like a "fire hot, fire bad" reaction.
Spiceworks is light weight, free, I don't think it's open source though, but its fairly customizable.
It has e-mail connectivity, so you can have it monitor an address and have tickets auto-create in your system. It also has network monitoring built in to track health of your network. Lots of cool features, plus an online community.
It's limited to window's as a platform for running, but it can work with linux, and Mac's. Plus it can run on an XP machine so no need for an expensive server. Check it out.

I think it's fitting that the life support, which hopefully will give peace of mind to those up there in the ISS, is most likely going to be named Serenity.
As a company that's having it's software copied and pirated of course they have to do something about it. However, unlike the RIAA, or MPAA, they aren't going after individuals but rather the large scale counterfeiters on a nation wide basis. Sure they could turn a blind eye to all claims of piracy, but at least in this case they're going about it the right way and not suing tons of people downloading hacks or copies of software. I'd say this is a check + for Nintendo with how they're handling this.
The problem with windows, that they missed, is that after all was said and done all they're doing is adding on a ton of overhead rather than redesigning windows from the ground up. It shouldn't be Windows 7, it should be Windows 1, or Windows star over, get the features they want by coding them in from the beginning rather than trying to tack everything on top of everything else.
Seriously, this is a really cool use of technology at work, keeping the spread of information flowing.
I wonder if they'll be able to figure out where I live though...
Right on, maybe we'll see fewer sites coming back saying that you have to be using IE or it won't work. Trust me lots of places especially banks still do this.
Sealand's claims to autonomy are pretty debated, but, they have a more realistic claim then the hundreds of other so called micronations, many of which are just guy's houses that they have changed into a sort of fantasy land with themselves as king. Read the Wiki article for Sealand's past dealings with other countries.
No I can agree with that, sometimes it takes things like this to shake up the establishment. Old powerhouses like McAfee and Symantec, and even to a lesser extent CA, are getting pushed aside by free competitors. If you want a decent AV/Anti-Spyware product, check out Vipre http://www.vipreantivirus.com/ nice small group of devs, all in house support, and honestly not that expensive. Great for client server environments where you need to manage lots of clients from one location.
I used to work as an IT consultant, and often times you run into this at small companies that are lucky to have a firewall and antivirus even installed. For a while I got pretty good at cleaning computers, 2 hours or less usually unless it was so old that each individual scan took longer than that.
Real glad I'm not in that sort of pay as you go and only when you have to environment.
I like that products such as spybot search and destroy, and malware bytes are ten times more effective at taking care of that than any antivirus product out there...
Till humans end up in captive breeding programs to keep the population alive?
Move along, move along

Does this mean the RIAA is more than meets the eye?

Think of it more like an homage to a fallen comrade.

I'd wear shackles over a tie any day!

Is that just the human to human stuff?

I thought that was weird too, but now it got modded up to 1 Insightful... no clue what's going on there...
Why settle for something weak like a resort when you could have your own micro nation. If it worked for these guys http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Principality_of_Sealand why not you or I?!
