    1) Company introduces a new product and says "Hey you need this"

    2) Consumer blindly complies, and buys it.

    When products come out, there is no mass consumer outcry about the unfair-ity of the "Rules" that you must abide by. For example, I could stay with VHS and say HA! look, I can copy all the movies I want and dont have to be a geek to do it. But the bottom line is some day DVD's and VHS will be stone age.

    No movie company is going to agree to put their material on a system that doesnt support copy protection anymore. And unless there is a mass international consumer boycott (which will never happen because there are too many people who eat, breath and sleep Brad, Jennifer, and Ben), things will continue as they are.

    And to make matters worse, I bet the MPAA will be extreemly agressive on the Johansen types this time around, even if its just to play legally bought media on the OS of choice.

    Their sites are WAY to cluttered!

    Google is simple. There arent millions of distrations. You dont have to SEARCH for the search bar. you dont have to wait for the eyeblasters to load so that they can in turn obstruct your searching. GEEEZ people. it looks good the first time but after the 9999999th time you login just to do a simple search, and have to wait forever for the main page to connect to billions of addservers to serve you graphic adds, you end up back at google.

    Malicious software is usually spread via email.

    The trojan goes through your outlook contacts list and forwards the email to everyon in it. People open it and the chain continues. Contracting such a virus requires a user at a keyboard usually.

    A "honeypot" would have to contain.
      - MS outlook with Windows XP.
      - Multiple email accounts that are posted accross the net and purposfully send and receive a lot of email traffic.
      - A person or script/bot that opens every email and tries to open/run every attachment.
      - possibly a lot of spy/addware already installed.
      - playing a sony BMG CD 24/7 (*duck)

    BNL has realized that TIMES CHANGE! Mp3s are the way to go now, and dispite piracy which is done on Cassets, CD, VHC, DVD's and any other media out there, its great to be the group who takes that first step and gets ipod/mp3 friendly.

    Europeans (in the politically correct sense) are Caucasian, and Japanese are asian. Therfore Europeons are a subset of asian being CAUCasian. Therefore Japanese are Europeans.

    Austrailians are fron England, and talk like English (But from the south) so they are europeans too. :-p

    They say firefox has it "bugs" to, and Im sure it does, but (as what happened yesterday), you dont have to worry about removing a yahoo popup blocker, only to get some sort of trojan that downloads 9999999 pieces of spyware, including stuff that "detects" a virus. ultimatly the comp continues to freeze on startup, and blah blah blah.....

    We are your overlords. It is a privilage that we grant to you to be allowed to use our internet.

    But do not dispare, citizens of the world. As we have found in our rise to power there is nothing that innovation and technology cannot solve.

    I propose massive (nationwide) subnets. In this way you could have penty of 192..... adresses.

    Also, I propose that we develop some sort of "domain mask". How it would work, is that when in America.... all the European sites would be addressible with their country code extention. (.au, .jp, .de) HOWEVER, when In the country, the domain mask will make your site accessible, by its exstention.(.com, .net) (if there is a domain of similar name in the US, you could alias it as .com.us. This could probably be done without infringing on anyone elses sovereignty.

    Problem solved!

    This is probably why we americans dont have the totally sweet(linux) smart phones that are availible in Asia and Europe! I hate it how, there are so many cool phones out there, and how the US is years behind. Most likley its because they "dont have a locking software for that model."

    It totally sucks. It feels like Im loosing in a bad game of monopoly.

    Driving is a privilage not a right. WHY? because you are driving your car yes, but you are driving it on publicly paid and build roads, along with thousands of others who are also using the roads, and if you get into trouble public employees got to come scrape your cars gibs off the street.

    But CD's are paid for by you, played on a player bought by you, with electricity paid for by you. the artist/studio only owns the song, and they sold it to you so its your right as a CUSTOMER to listen to the song however you want to on whatever player you want to. I dont see anything on the player (IE an XBOX game) that says only for Sony CD players. IF I would have seen that on the package I wouldnt have bought it. Comon people!

    As much as I hate to admit its true. proprietary shops have a lot more motivation.

    I wonder how many programmers Linux has vs windows, if the number of linux programmers is vastly higher your claims may be correct, as even with more programmers working for free just doesnt get things moving.

    Dispite the recent "bad press" the hanging chad has gotten, paper-punch voting counted by senior citizens is by far the simplest, most secure way of voting.

    Not only do we not have to re-train voters, but the operators are friendly non-partial and reliable.

    I would probably say that this book would be for advanced users.(and as well it should be)

    When I checkout or buy a linux/bsd book, I am looking to get my hardward working. I am trying to get Xwindows up, or understand how to get an InkJet printer, or internal dhcp working to an outside DSL line. I see alot of "Beginner" linux books out there spending time on old *nix lore, shell scripting in VI, etc. Its nice to see that they are lumping all this emacs knowlege into an emacs book. now maybe they will keep emacs paper documentation out of (insert your favorite distro here)
